    My Trip Report

Hello everyone! My 7:30 am flight to Vancouver, to connect and head to Vegas for 1:50 pm is set to take off on Monday morning. This trip is my seventh jaunt down to the holy land, just barely keeping me on pace for one trip every six months on average since I was legal (I have vowed to take a minimum of 50 trips to Vegas before I turn 50. I've got 43 trips and 26 years to go... think I can do it?). My last trip was this time last year, and it truly amazes me that I didn't make it down for a full year!

So, what's the occasion, aside from separation anxiety? Last week, I finished up an ESL teaching course, which I'll be using to go abroad to teach English (most likely in Japan). So, aside from celebrating finishing up and having that new adventure in motion... I'm also acknowledging the fact that if I'm abroad for a long time, it may make getting to Vegas a bit more difficult. Flights from Tokyo to Vegas are not cheap!

Plus, it's Vegas in the summer. Can a fella say no?

So I've got about four days in town. Technically three and a bit - eighty hours to be exact, which is why I'm titling this report "80 hours in Vegas". I'm leaving at midnight on Thursday, as I need to be back home to my restaurant job for Friday night. Here's a quick rundown of what I'm planning for this trip to consist of...

    Monday:
    - Arrive 1:50 pm local time, check-in at Plaza, hopefully my room will be ready. Will be trying the $20 trick... because why not, right?
    - Reporting straight to the pool, hanging out there for an hour or so.
    - Heading down to Delano to enjoy happy hour at Skyfall lounge
    - Going north to have dinner at Zeffirino in the Venetian
    - Going south again to see Lil Jon at Jewel Nightclub in Aria (on a MyVegas comp)
    - Returning downtown, possibly shooting a bit of craps depending on how tired I am (will have been up for 24 hours once I've gotten back up)

    Tuesday:
    - Sleep in until 9:30 or so
    - Lunch reservation at Lago for 11:30 am. I've requested a table right at the rails on the patio, which the reservation agent said they should be able to accommodate if I get there early. Expect lots of gorgeous pictures from here!
    (space intentionally left blank)

    Wednesday:
    - Catch 8:30 am shuttle from the Cal to Sam's Town
    - Register for 10:00 am and 1:00 pm poker tournaments
    - In some void of time, I will head down the street to the Longhorn to check it out after my lively discussion with Grid on the topic. Please pray for me to not get lung cancer while I'm in there. Might also play the noon blackjack tournament if time permits. Will also be attempting the one-pound burger challenge once I'm there.
    - Catch 3:15 pm shuttle back to the Cal
    (space intentionally left blank)

    Thursday:
    - Soak up a little bit more sun by the pool at Plaza right when it opens
    - Meet tour shuttle to go to Black Canyon for a kayaking tour on the river (so excited!)
    - Return downtown, perhaps get some final play in
    - Off to the airport for 9:30 pm-ish to head home

In the areas where space is intentionally left blank, I'm trying to allow for enough wiggle room to do as I please, on a whim. I've already planned the hell out of this trip, so gotta have some "just go with it" time, right?

I've got a flexible checklist for such time, which includes getting Lappert's ice cream (still haven't tried it!), having the beer flight at QQQQ, and checking out the artifacts in Main Street Station.

I'll also be hitting the tables by the pool at Plaza at least once. There's something about the idea of poolside gambling that's so decadently first-world, that I've got to give it a go, even if it's just to say I did it.

I'm also budgeting a grand whopping total of $40 to place a $5 straight-up roulette bet on my lucky number of 31, at the beginning and end of each day. That's eight opportunities to make $175. What can go wrong, right?

As the title says, I am guaranteeing at least 50 pictures in this TR, so about 12.5 per day, or one every two hours on average. Stay tuned! With the knowledge that I might be away for yet another year as a result of going abroad, I'll definitely be living it up.

Getting the pictures off to a rolling start...

My whiteboard, with a rough breakdown of what I've got planned for this trip.

My signature "swimming trunks and blazer" ensemble that I'll be wearing on the way over. I'm going straight to the pool once I check in, so why bother with trousers if they're coming off anyway? Classy upstairs, aquatic downstairs, obnoxiously tropical all over.

My selection of sunglasses that I'm bringing with me. I've nicknamed each of them...

In order, I've got the following nicknames for each...
    - "When can you ever go wrong with prescription Ray Bans, since daily contacts feel weird after several hours?"
    - "Sup bruh, I'm Tyler. I'm a frat boy from Michigan who wears a backwards snapback, owns several garments from Hollister, and collects minor STDs from habitually barebacking on Tinder"
    - "My name is Salvatore, I just got off the plane from Milan, and I'm wearing these to hide my expressions of disgust at your country"

    Millennial necessities

Plane/layover/poolside reads. I'll probably only actually finish half of one of these books, but nothing wrong with being ambitious, right?

My lucky chips (there's a story to each... from England, Estonia, and the Norwegian Sky cruise ship), which I'll be using in rotation as card protectors in the poker tourneys I'll play in.

    ---

... I know, I know, no one cares, right? I'll be landing in just over 25 hours. The real pics will come then!

I wonder how many people nowadays are using figit spinners as card protectors?

That's a great idea in theory... though I feel like the urge to fidget might prompt a need to use the spinner, thus leaving your cards unguarded. I don't think I'd ever want to be in the position of needing to fidget, and risking having my aces swiped!

    Aaaaaand we're rolling!

Almost got off to a panicking start. When I was checking for Uber rides to get to the airport at 5:10-ish, they were all $60+, double what I'd normally be quoted, and even more than a regular taxi!

I was about to run out the door to the nearest busy street and hail a taxi, then I checked my Uber app one more time. What was the quote now?

I seem to recall a certain number 31 being lucky, don't you? 92 is also my birth year, as it happens. Perhaps this good turn of fate will lead to many others.

Now to weave my way through airport security, hoping no one will notice my oversized carry-on.
