We drove by yesterday morning on the way to Harry Reid and it was interesting to see only the shell is left standing. All the glass has been removed and every room looked stripped. Somebody told me it was because there was asbestos in the building that had to be removed before they could implode it. Kind of makes it less of an must see event. Just steel coming down.

For those who have been to Foundation Room before, what is it like? What's the vibe?

I bought tix and wasn't even thinking about getting out of there afterwards. We are looking at bring tyvek clothing covers in case we have to walk back to Cosmo. And masks. You know even if they did remove the asbestos, there's still a lot of nasty stuff they used to build back then. Hopefully we'll be able to get rideshare or taxi.

The FR is great, and I think the vibe that night will be super fun.

But plan on a taxi/rideshare, as they’ll (have to) go the back way, LVB & Tropicana will be closed for hours afterward, at a minimum. They still have yet to release a formal road-closure plan and the closure times for all the surrounding streets, and quite possibly, I-15.

Using previous implosions as a marker, this seems like a pretty good footprint to use for closures.

I wonder if they're going to close the pedestrian bridge between Excalibur and NYNY. I'd think if it was going to be open, they would've already capitalized on that and planned a party like NYE Bridge bash.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely be looking for a ride and only think of walking as a last resort. I'll be too tired to walk far at 3am!

    Hello,

I read that the authorities didn't want people to go to the party to see it fall! So if you have nice places I'm interested :) We'll be at the excalibur but I booked in January for really cheap so I don't think I'll have a good view, in my opinion they'll put us at the cellar ^^

I think this is going to be a crazy busy event. You can see it in the hotel rates -- Caesars has no rooms available that night; MGM's got nothing at the Grand below Penthouse and 2BR level suites for $2500+ and the only other non-sold-out property is Park MGM; Resorts World is completely sold out; even places north-Strip are charging $1000+ for a standard room. On any other Tuesday night many of these places would be close to free. I feel like it's going to be a madhouse.

There are no public viewing events. The only ticketed event I'm familiar with is the one at the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay, but that's been sold out for over a week now.

What about just walking as close as they allow and watch from there?

That's my plan, but I'm just amazed all of the nearby casinos haven't heavily monetized this as a watch party type event. I mean, aside from room rates.

With the majority of the Strip apparently sold out that night they're going to have to do something though. There's less room availability that night than there is during CES. They're going to have to close down that whole area.

A lot of it is sold out as well. I can’t believe I have a 1BR suite at Conrad for the night - wouldn’t be able to get one now but was dirt-cheap when I asked the host to book it back in April.

You scored BIG TIME with that, congrats! There’s a large convention in-house that week there too, also G2E at V/P, and 2 addtl at MB, 1 of which I’m there for (but staying at Aria)

    Thanks! :)

Also, a Raiders home game on Sunday, and the VGK are playing home games as well.

I imagine Vegas being very busy that week, but probably a little less the next week (was able to get a Penthouse Suite at Bellagio Tue-Fri).

    Counting down the days.

To my knowledge, they haven’t released a formal road closure plan yet, but walking and being actually able to view the implosion is probably not possible, for obvious safety reasons…

They will probably just make it impossible for the best views, I’m afraid…

Well, unless you want to be hit by asbestos covered cement/rebar/toxic dust, I would sure hope so.

Wait, asbestos was removed before imploding right? The rest isn’t so bad if you don’t do it daily…

(I have several friends who are attorneys focusing on asbestos med-mal, and the answer is questionable, at best)

Maybe not worth taking the risk, and watch it from the comfort of our bed on the TV…
