I think the video is concerning about Cosmo in particular because it confirms that having the most permissive policies results in the least safe situation. CET requires masks to play at tables, MGM made their floors look like a 7-11 in a bad neighborhood, Wynn has been way out front with their rules and I haven’t read any reports of them being more relaxed than stated. Players looking for “normal” could figure out where to go pretty quickly, so you could say they were basically asking for it with the ground rules they laid out.

The video seems to have spread widely enough that if anyone is ever going to step in (Government/Gaming/etc) then you’d have to think Cosmo will be getting a call. This isn’t just spreading on fan boards, it’s all over popular twitter accounts and continues to spread. Opening night at The D was also bad, but it didn’t seem to get any real play outside the community.

I think a lot of folks have their eyes on the Vegas opening. And this reflects poorly on all involved with deciding to reopen. I have a feeling that some casino execs are getting some less than friendly phone calls looking for answers. Hopefully that’s all it takes.

I wish I could say I was surprised seeing those videos. I am not. The masks question seems to be a recurring theme in this thread; reality is they were not mandated. Without mandating them the crowd that was attracted to the reopening was unlikely to wear them. I know that many here on VMB may not feel that way but the videos show very clearly what I feel is the case. Don't get me wrong I am not advocating for this just stating an observation. One thing that does occur to me is that staff REALLY need to protect themselves. They need to take it so seriously and do their absolute best to protect themselves. At least the spread can hopefully be kept tamped down to the Nevada residents. It is painfully obvious that it can (and will) spread amongst the visitors. Of course they will then take it back to wherever they came from.

This issue notwithstanding PLEASE do keep the videos and pictures coming. Given that a visit isn't an option for those of us in Canada and there is ZERO mention of opening any casinos here in Ontario this is my only viable option to scratch the itch.

Thanks for posting LV photos and those doing trip reports!
That said these scenes make me less anxious to visit. Few masks and lots of kids running around doesn't sound all that inviting. Will be curious to see how much money they are making.
Are the casino restaurants full/ have lines?

This right here is just common sense, and a simple measure to be taken with no adverse impact on anyone, although I am sure there would be some complaining about even that. Why not do the obvious simple things?

Thank you all for posting videos of the casino life. I was torn between Bellagio, Cosmo or Wynn for my post July 4 trip. Will take Cosmo off this list for now.

We all knew there would be pent up demand for the first weekend. While this video does a good job of showing the lack of customers social distancing at Cosmo, I have seen pictures from almost every casino that is open on the strip and freemont that has made me take a double look.. but honestly.. I have seen worse at Costco and the local beer/liquor stores during the pandemic.
While there was a bunch that we might not agree with, I don't know how much on the video was actually against any of the "rules"

Part of the problem is that there is actually so few casinos on the strip that are open and the many of the ones that are open are very close together.
It is too bad they didn't open up more casinos to help space it out better rather then leaving most closed and jamming the entire initial wave into 1/5 of the strip casinos. Since they are already planning to open more in the near future I think see this as an error already
After the initial wave of demand is past and more casinos open up it will spread out naturally. Hopefully the damage is not done by then and it forces things to close up again.

What other city gets more visitors from more places? That and the inherent time delay are going to make it extremely difficult for anyone becoming infected to positively pin it on LV.

Better look again. All the craps dealers are wearing masks, but very few players and visitors.

Watch the video again. The employees/dealers are wearing masks. Also some patrons.

This thread is going to get increasingly speculative and whatever-the pandemic-term-is-for-political/ideological reaction to social distancing and precautionary actions. I won't be surprised if its locked.

My wish.... even if locked, it's updated in two weeks. We'll know then about spikes, surges, tracing outbreaks back to LV, etc.

I don't like what I saw on the video, not that surprised. But if there's no indication that harm was caused, it won't result in my canceling my August Cosmo reservations.

Didn't the LV mayor publicly volunteer the city to be a control group?

So you're speculating that this thread will get increasingly speculative? Nobody mentioned politics that I've noticed unless rightfully deleted by moderators.

I'm not going back to Cosmo any time soon based on my own research, speaking with my contacts there, watching some news source videos of openings and knowing I'm the one to decide my plans for Vegas.
I find this thread helpful in my research...without speculation.

Yeah I saw the first sighting of a mask towards the end of the vid just after I hit send.

The fact that mask wearing isn't more obvious is obviously a concern! :)

Well, I intended that video to be informational and not spark the debate we had overnight, but maybe that's a natural result.

I have heard from people that this video is not representative and maybe that is possible. I have seen other photos and video of Las Vegas that looks more barren, even slower than the week between NFR and Xmas. Maybe this was a one-off, but after the shots of The D, I'm not sure it is. Some reporters for LVRJ and other local news channels are saying about half of people are wearing masks. I don't see that in the photos, but I have to be fair and say that I'm not on the ground. People doing TRs here are not reporting 50% either, so what do I know. ;)

My COVID-19 Informational thread has been full of discussions about how to keep yourself safe from this virus. The number one ways you can keep safe is hand washing and social distancing. When you can't social distance and "need" to be in a crowd of people indoors, the best way is for everyone to wear masks and reduce the aerosol and particulates that come out of your mouth when you breathe, talk, shout or cheer. If less than 50% of people are wearing masks, that effectiveness goes down. The person who doesn't know they are shedding the virus and are not wearing a mask is the problem. But how do you get a person to know the future of whether or not they will be sick in a couple days is the problem. A universal belief that this virus exists and is present nearly everywhere people congregate has become a political issue. There is a big chunk of the country invested in the idea this isn't happening and isn't a risk for them. Until the tide turns on that we're going to see 50% of the population refusing to wear masks because they are "icky" or "inconvenient" or whatever.

The casinos could be doing better, but they aren't. Know that and make your decisions accordingly, based on your own understanding of your personal risk.

Yesterday, in the COVID Info thread I posted this article:

Masks are given out at casinos now. We checked to see who’s wearing them.
    https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/casinos-gaming/masks-are-given-out-at-casinos-now-we-checked-to-see-whos-wearing-them-2046800/

There is a video in there where they talk to Governor Sisolak and the Chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Board about the mask wearing. They both seem pretty pleased with 50% mask usage at this point. They say they are watching the numbers, but don't seem to have any concerns at this point.

Now, some properties are doing a better job than others. It appears they visited Bellagio and I am pretty sure I saw a photo of Chairwoman Morgan at Wynn too. Both of those properties seem to have cooperation from their guests, at least at some level. I'm not sure they saw the Cosmo video, but I am sure they wish that wasn't the message getting out about how Vegas is handling the reopening.

We're going to have to wait and see what happens in 2-3 weeks. If employees (who are required to wear masks) start testing positive, they might have to make some changes. It's also possible there will be an attempt to sweep it under the rug, but I hope we hear about it. I'm hopeful that we don't see an outbreak at a casino. I have no idea what will happen yet, but I'm waiting.

I do know that I'm disappointed. I'm not surprised either, but I wish they had made more effort at the start to enforce their guidelines. That said, getting someone who is adamant about not putting on a mask was always going to be an issue. But not even trying to "strongly encourage" use seems contradictory to their own Health and Safety Plans.

Never underestimate the chick-magnet potential of a dog. You'd be surprised. :)

As a retired educator I can tell you it was a learning experience and in turn an opening to prevent the next “crop” of new teachers from repeating your errors as a virgin; you are unrelenting (but fair) and really emphasize rules and procedures from the get go.
It is impractical to expect success in behaviors when attempting to reign in behaviors you failed to monitor and correct from the beginning. People of all ages resist change from outside forces. But watching reports from other parts of the country it didn’t go particularly well in some of the other areas either.
