I sat at a UTH table for the first time today. I was learning the game, and there were two other players. The dealer turns over AKQd, and I say, "I hope someone gets a Royal!". The lady shows she has the Jack. Next flop has the 10! I let out a loud hoot, but the lady didn't really react.

When the machine totaled up her win, she was shocked that it was $5,200. She sat there and continued to play. I said, "Lady, the door would have already hit my ass if that was me." Her reply? "I've only been here an hour". Seriously?

    Now I got smart assy......

I said, "How long do you have to work to make that money? If you showed up at work, and they handed you $5,200 and said you could go home, would you stick around because you just got there?"

I would stay at least a couple of hours.
If I were to go home too early my bride would put me to even more work!

I agree. The objective of gambling is to win money so once thats done, time to leave.

did that last trip to vegas.

Put in $100 bill which i never do, just didnt have smaller as i just got there. bet max coins by mistake as i was just settling in. Still it was only a little over $1. Hit for $100. doubled my money with one pull. cashed out and was done gambling. Objective met.

I would continue to play, it's fun. But I would pocket the majority and play the rest. I'd be afraid to stop the lucky streak. As soon as notice a downturn I'd walk.

Nice to see it does happen.

I'd pocket $4k and play with the other $1200.

I wouldn't have said anything to her, since I don't enjoy anyone at the casino telling me what to do with my money.

Not sure what's wrong with her staying...

I always enjoy your posts, Rush, but I really do think you're a little heavy handed on this one. There are few occasions where we can live our lives in the manner we see fit, with no one to answer to and no justification as to our whereabouts. A casino is one of them (barring illegal actions, etc.). I think I'd have reacted roughly as she did and I may have been a shade more harsh.

Hopefully you asked her what her religion was and who she voted for, too. Good God, man, what would possess you to say anything other than "Great hand, I'm happy for you!"?

A few years ago I won $9600 on Crazy 4 poker (5 card straight flush, 10% of the $1 progressive side bet). I took most of it as a check so I would not be tempted to give it back. The lady next to me mentioned the hold on a check that size when I deposit it. I said I was aware of that.

This is local casino, not a vacation in Vegas. I really don't care if she burned through the money, tripled it, or gave it the homeless. I'm good with any of it.

I was the loudest cheerleader at the table. When she was paid, she screamed, "Allah Akbar", so I didn't need to ask her religion. She said she had just cashed her tax refund to gamble, too.......so I didn't need to ask who she voted for.

If you seriously believe that..do yourself a favor and keep drinking that beer.
Gambling is a negative expectation..no more than an adult video game.

Then why put money in the game? Why not just play online for free?
