Who: Low roller and play about 50% BJ, 30% VP and 20% Slots. Stations Gold. CET Gold. Boyd inactive.
What: Off strip excursion. Solo and during the day.
When: I'm 55, so it looks like Wednesday would be the day to go for Young at Heart or My Generation.
Where: Boulder Hwy or West Flamingo.
Why: Goal is good payoffs, fishing for a teaser offer and/or just do something different.

It's been 15 years since being on Boulder Hwy. Considering taking the Sam's Town shuttle from Harrahs and spending a weekday afternoon at Sam's, Cannery and Longhorn OR taking the Rio shuttle to Rio, Gold Coast, and Palms. It's been 12 yrs since doing W. Flamingo. Lived in New Orleans many years so Boulder Hwy doesn't put me off, at least during the day.

    1. Any opinions? Advice?
    2. Any special rules, games, dining etc to be on the lookout for?
    3. Boyd bought Cannery, but still separate rewards programs? Are they going to merge programs?
    4. Been about 12 yrs since playing at a Boyd property (GC). Is it like CET and doesn't matter where you play or better to focus on one property? Is Sam's more likely for comp than GC?

The Longhorn has a fun $10 BJ Tourney. I think it's at noon. It'll be a warm walk in Aug.

I stayed a night at Palms during a trip last weekend and was disappointed that half of the casino is closed for renovations. The rest of the casino was packed uncomfortably tight for my taste. I'm not sure when the renovation will be complete but if you're planning to go soon, you may want to factor it into your decision. Gold Coast and Rio were still fun though.

Here's what Sam's Town gives you based on your play on Wednesday's Senior Day (55+). Swipe your player card in the kiosk both before and after play. The before gives you a point multiplier, and the after may give you a free buffet based in the following (slightly paraphrased by me):

After earning one hundred (100) base slot points, participant may swipe at the kiosk to receive a free dinner buffet voucher on the Wednesday at the property the points are earned. The kiosk voucher must be claimed by 7:00 p.m.
After earning three hundred (300) base slot points between 7:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., participant may swipe at any kiosk to receive a $15 dining credit voucher after 7:00 p.m. valid for 24 hours from the time it is printed at the kiosk. The voucher must be used at the property the points are earned and valid at the property’s owned restaurants or T.G.I. Friday’s. The voucher must be redeemed within the 24-hours.

There is also a Buy 1, Get 1 free buffet level for playing fewer points. There is a drawing for some cash ($500 or $100) held upstairs at 4 pm (or thereabouts).

We used to stay at Sam's Town all the time, but due to their major cutbacks in comps, now we stay at Harrah's (Valley Rooms) and take the bus to Sam's for Senior Day only.

    Enjoy.

The GC/Rio/Palms triangle would be more favorable I think. You also have access to Orleans by way of the GC free shuttle.

Side note: Crap! Did not know about the renovations going on at Palms. As you can see, we will be there next week for 2 nights. Looks like we might be playing more at GC and maybe doing that shuttle to Orleans! Thanks for the heads up kaeldon23!!

Maybe not this year. Looking forward to 2021!

You could Shuttle to Sam's, do your thing, then take the Sam's Shuttle to Downtown. Plenty to see there. Take the WAX bus back to the Trop. The WAX drops you off right there.

I would take Gold Coast over Sam's Town any day of the week. Sam's is alright, but the selection of Video Poker paytable doesn't compare, and plus GC has Ping Pang Pong, also in a better part of town.

If you do head west, consider taking the 202 Flamingo bus, $2 per ride. It runs every 15 mins week days and 20 minutes at night. You can board west bound at 2 stops: Next to Caesars or right under the monorail. The monorail stop is less crowded and closer to Harrahs. The 202 stops right in front of Rio and GC. Hop on the East bound in front of the Palms.

The shuttles are nice but a crap shoot with limited seating. I've never taken the Rio shuttle but the Boyd GC-Orleans-Harrahs shuttle sucks. No set timetable and the stop at Harrahs is under the High Roller with no shade. Emerald Members board first, then hotel guests then everyone else. I've never had good luck with it. YMMV.

Want to thank everyone for the input. It ended up that I needed to get a haircut on my free day. Wound up at the El Cortez barber shop, so I spent my time downtown. Will keep the info stored for next time.
