Great post! Thanks for sharing. And good luck on your upcoming trip. I think I could really get into multi line quarter Jacks. A royal wouldn't trigger paperwork. There's still a chance for a dealt Royal that would pay nicely, even if there is paperwork. I may make a trip down to South Point next trip, if I have a few bucks. Never been there.

I agree. I play where I like to play, where I get good comps, there is good food, shopping, etc. It kills me when people freak out over a pay table.

    Thanks RF!

Another benefit is the fact that you lower your variance playing three line, and the 2 coin / 2 pair payout keeps you in the game despite playing three times as much as a single line game. The Palms also has 3-5 Quarter Line 9/6 JOB. I haven't tried the $1 9/6 JOB 3 line at Luxor or MGM, but perhaps I may try a session or two to see if I can get a run going. There is also 3-5 line Bonus Poker quarter play at Boyd bars (Orleans, Sam's Town, Suncoast). I also love the $1 Progressive 9/6 at the Sam's Town bar.

I did have a sentence in my original post which wasn't accurate. (I only play 99% games to have chance to preserve bankroll / win (including under 99% games with a Progressive pot high enough to bring the game to 99-100% plus). This is mostly accurate with the exception of sessions played while staying at a CET property on 3 Line $1 9/5 JOB (98.45%), and some bad games at Caesars Palace one trip.

You can run a lot of money through without dealt opening hands, which is why I decided to forgo a comped room next weekend. I will stay 10 days in December (5 Paris, break than 5 Caesars), and will play then to see if Diamond will be in my future beyond 2016. Like you, the higher coin in is stressful, especially on a non full pay machine. I liked the 9/6 JOB 3 line $1 at Tahoe. I have been fortunate to be ahead on this game, but my luck will run out if I continue to try for $25K coin in for Diamond in a Day.

Trips playing PHo VP ($1 9/5 JOB 3 lines)
    January 2014
+$4,040 thank you RSF, plus $415 from FP on VP Tournament based on Diamond AC and Tahoe play previous year earned via 2012 Road to Rewards. Secured Diamond in a Day Status.
    June 2014 -$400
    January 2015 -$980
    June 2015
    +$3.665
thanks you second RSF on same machine! Secured 2016 Diamond with DIAD.
    September 2015 -$935

Consistent with your results, I have also had my best success in an individual casino (never hit two $ RSF anywhere else) despite the fact the casino offered worse pay-tables. The fact is random luck resulted in my play on full pay machines to be far worse than on the 9/5 JOB game.

LOL--this is EXACTLY the same for me...I go over to Palms or DT with better pay tables & honestly my $ doesn't go as far. Makes NO sense...

I will say, DH calls me the "video poker whisperer"....;-)

Having said all that, last year I fared pretty well. Over 40 nights comped, and lost about $1000 overall. Most meals comped.

This year, down $5K so far. :)

T.I. has thrown me an offer with $400 free play and I'm trying to figure out whether I can afford to give them the coin in I need to keep my current offer level if I take the offer.

I did some playing around with Dunbar's Risk Analyzer for VP - I had a very old version stored away somewhere, and upgrade to version 2.0. I learned some really important things about short term play and the effect of game choice and paytable have on it.

It's not as simple as I thought, due to short term variance.

I agree - I feel silly sometimes posting pictures of a win, when it was not at a high advantage machine. I am there to play and have fun, not go hunting and fishing for a better pay table.

I cringe too, sometimes. But I look at it as a matter of hitting an overall balance, not being 100% anal perfecto about picking only the best paytables.

I try to stay at places that have better paytables. That's why I'm downtown for the most part. But I love staying in opulent surroundings too, so I stay at Wynn from time to time. On the strip, I also choose T.I. which has full pay and is a medium tier property.

But if I have a hankering to play Super Times Pay and its short pay, I'm not going to walk somewhere else just to throw in a $20 bill and then walk back. I bounce around, and sometimes I get lucky. Probably 80% of my play in a trip is on full pay paytables.

I wish you the best of luck throughout your trip. Win early, win often.
I see you taking $60 CAD. Did you google any Canadian at par promotions?

I haven't googled, but I haven't heard of any since I button-f'd the Downtown Grand on theirs. :D

I don't expect that there would be any. However, I was thinking it would be savily (new word?) frugal.

    Snort!
I can't you believe you posted that. You also got some of my sweat...you lucky man!
I had that envelope next to my body for awhile so it got a little damp. Hopefully it dried out by the time it got to you.
(Sorry...it was the only envelope I had)

It's been unreal hot here. Yesterday I was out to take some pictures and when I set out it was 93. Within an hour or so the car was saying it was 106.

One advantage of downtown, going around from casino to casino downtown it is way, way cooler under the canopy then it is out on open streets or on the strip.

People are still out roasting their flesh in this heat though.

Low roller plays (that being the savvy gambler you are you may already know about): pai gow poker, the best table game for getting maximum drinks with minimum play. There's one (or at least there was a few months ago) $5 table in the morning at Sam's Town. Problem is you almost have to inherit a seat. Sam's Town also has full pay deuces wild at the nickel (ten nickels) and quarter levels. Boring, but the possible returns vs. variance are better than most.

The Cal has two video poker machines in the alcove closest to check in that have a variety of 99+% games at the nickel, dime and quarter levels. The Fremont STP machines offer slightly reduced pay tables at the nickel and dime levels.
