I always like a Royal Flusher thread.
This is a little late but I have had many many many many problems over the years booking on Aeroplan points. And yes, I've seen Montreal (wrong direction) and Denver on my way to Vegas. As well, we ususally have as many as 25 dates (straddeling a weekend) over a 2 month period to try and book.
On my last trip in January, I only had enough points for one way. And yes, you can book one way for half the points. However, I couldn't get home to Toronto because there were no reasonable flights. I booked my one way out of Buffalo on one of their partners. Yes, I had to change planes in Newark. However, I was shocked that the taxes and fees (all in) were $7.40 CAD not the $80 (you mentioned as well) that I was expecting. I booked a direct flight return on SWA for $210 US. I know this is a little late for you now, but I'm guessing you live somewhere in the Kingston area (I know you've never said). There has to be a US airport you can fly out of and still use your points and save on the fees at the same time.
    Reasonable?

Nickel triple play, STP if you can find it is the low rolling answer. Last trip was low budget or no trip. We planned one no gamble day, then low rolled the rest. A couple nice hits and parlay up. You could hit Jokers wild for a cheap breakfast and nickel VP. Or hit Eureka and get a short rib grilled cheese at fat choy. Things like that that kill a couple hours get you a meal and maybe a little low rolling, one ok hit and walk up twenty or thirty bucks.

I've noticed that Eureka has liberal quarter bartops on VPFree2. One of the many places I still need to sneak away to for a few hours...

And yeah, nickels would be the ideal denomination for multi-line play on a frugal trip, but the problem is many places set multi-line nickels pretty low, even downtown I think. I haven't really taken a good look at them though. I know Binion's nickel STP games are bad. At the nickel level they expect you to bet 25 + 5 (STP bet) nickels per line for an 800 for 1 Royal payout!!!

This is probably total grandma advice (and no, I'm not a grandma), but I always bring starbucks instant coffee that you can use with hot water. I also often bring breakfast bars for a quick morning bite as it nixes a so-so meal. (I.E. the meal that you're not out to enjoy, but just get a little food in you.) I bought two simple black coffees and two bananas at Mirage years ago, and it was $17 bucks! I think it warped me for life. I don't mind spending for something I'll enjoy, but so-so black coffee and two bananas for $17 dollars?

    I know you're super savvy though on Vegas though, I know you'll have a blast---budget or not...enjoy!

I second this Starbucks instant coffee idea. Even if you don't mind paying $10 for a lame coffee and muffin ( Cosmo) you will avoid those horribly long coffee lines in the morning. Huge waste of Vegas time!

Ladies getaway, somewhere on the strip with a pool :)

I haven't been able to find a StarAlliance partner serving an airport near enough to make it work. Yes, the fees are way, way less when you book on a US airline.

I love the idea of nickle STP, I wonder if there are any decent paying options? Maybe at Main Street? I would try to parlay up a win, maybe onto single line quarters. I'd sort of hate to hit a nickel royal, unless it had a multiplier.

Those VIA things from starbucks are not too bad. I could buy a cheap kettle (or even a coffeemaker) at Walmart or something.

I've been toying with this idea already and looking at portable coffee makers. Starbucks in Vegas can easily run you $12 a morning, that's $120 US or so. You can buy a throwaway kettle or coffee maker for $15 to $20.

There's a STP spin poker at the Cal in the row next to the host desk.....I did 7500+ points on $40 in, last trip in one long session. My problem was when I parlayed up to quarters I stayed with triple play. I did play some single line dollar but no luck.

I love gambling early, followed by buffet breakfast. Good triple play nickels at Gold Coast and Silverton, with nice breakfast deals after not too many points. I tend to drink free while playing video poker. Usually eat a second time at 4 or 5, typically doing happy hours. If you are serious about it, low rolling is fun!

Not sure what they offer on nickels downtown, but Boyd probably has a chance to offer decent STP games at nickels. But of course you need to be careful there, you don't want to screw up Boyd offers. No idea on their paytables, but I swear El Co had some pretty damn cheap STP as low as pennies maybe??

Some other "decent" paytables for STP/Double STP for nickels:

Unfortunately there has been a report this week that this machine is missing at Aria, but it was in carousel 1107 on the opposite side of the poker room behind the Milfe desk and high limit:

Yes, that vision test picture is 8/6 Boner Deluxe (98.99% w/DSTP) for nickels!

They also had these games for STP/DSTP, iirc.
    7/5 Bonus (98.29%/98.51%)
    9/5 DDB (98.14%/98.37%)

BeeeJay Memorial Row 802 (in front of MLife Desk) also has these paytables for quarters+, but for nickels, they are one "notch" lower in that row. But 8/5 Boner Deluxe w/DSTP is still 97.9%.

    7/5 Bonus w/Double STP for nickels (98.51%):
    TI
SLS (Double STP standalones only, not All Star IIs)
South Point (quarters is 8/5 (99.67%))

    9/6/5 Double Bonus w/STP for nickels (98.08%):
Mardi Gras Bar at Orleans...yes, nickels a bar!
The bar also has 9/6 DDB (98.98%) and 98.91% Deuces for quarters. But other bars also have 8/5 Bonus (99.17%).

    Now the "Meh" choices...
    6/5 Bonus w/Double STP (97.36%):

Cosmo (also 8/5 DDB nickels 97.28%; 7/5 Bonus for quarters)
    Mirage
MGM...next to this though is a 100-play nickel "Quick Quads" machine similar to the one you tried for dollars with 7/5 Bonus (98.01%; 98.28% w/QQ). Any number of lines can be played.

6/5 Bonus w/STP (97.14%)... a good number of places. 8/5 DDB (97.06%) is also an okay choice, but this is harder to find, many casinos screw people with 7/5 DDB at nickels (95.98%)

And since you are saying it might be painful to hit a nickel royal without a multiplier, I sorta doubt you'll want to play this but I wanted to include it for completeness at this point.
All CET Vegas (except Caesars and Rio): 100 play 1c, 2c Deuces STP with 5600 cr Royal (97.00%).

Remember on all STP games, you can bet however many lines you want via the touch screen.
