Would anyone actually be shocked if one day the fountain area is a shopping area? I wouldn't.

Wouldn't be shocked as much as I'd be heartbroken...Probably just as awful as I felt in 06 when they closed The Stardust. It would just be another part of my personal Las Vegas experience that would be relegated to photo albums and my not so stable grey matter. However, I think they will eventually go through with it; and I know they've denied it, and I know Robin Leach is "The Weekly World News" of Las Vegas, but I also know corporate automoton zombies in suits have no problem at all lying to the public - especially if they can generate a way to squeeze more cash form us. Sad and frustrating as all hell - but true.

Yup. A shame? Absolutely. A surprise? Not remotely.

"I was reliably told that it was apparently Steve’s decision to replace his current golf course at Wynn Las Vegas with the new Paradise Lagoon water attraction that triggered Bellagio executive decisions to analyze the real-estate value of the 8-acre site that brings in no revenue."

Good lord these people are hopeless. They are just hell bent on killing all the draws in town. The idea that every square inch on the property has to directly generate revenue is pennywise and pound foolish. I get that the game has changed with respect to gambling's share of revenue but the things that bring people in the doors to gamble are often the same things that bring people in the door to eat, drink, club, and stay.

This is even more myopic than charging for parking because parking structures "bring in no revenue" despite the fact that every person who parks in them and walks in the door is bringing their wallet into the property.

Maybe next MGM should turn off all their exterior lighting and signage on their properties because none of that crap generates revenue but uses lots of costly electricity. Maybe tear down the Lion statue and put up a couple T-shirt selling kiosks in it's place.

In this situation, I truly think these diabolical fucks floated it as an "April Fools Joke" just to put a toe in the water to gauge the Vegas going public's reaction. And why the fuck not? Now that they see we've taken parking fees up the ass, taken shitty drink red light green light/tito systems for drinks up the ass, and have been taking worsening gaming conditions up the ass for years - hey fuck it, let's take away the best free show in the Strip and replace it with another overpriced shopping mall.

The Bellagio fountains are almost as iconic as the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. If MGM owned that, I'm sure these cocksuckers would figure out a way to squeeze some sort of revenue from it.

I dunno, where there is smoke there is fire - and if and when it does go down, I'll be going back to (gag) CET or The Wynn. Especially since these greedy shitdicks floated it as an "April Fools Joke" just 2 months ago.

I don't think this will happen.. The only thing about Bellagio that commands those insane room rates are the fountains. How will they market those outrageous room rates? What about the "Fountain View" rooms? I've never stayed personally but if I were to stay the only room I would get IS the Fountain View room. The draw to Bellagio is the fountains. If they remove the fountains and still expect people to pay a premium for the rooms.. They got something else coming...

I hope you're right man, but I guess they've seen players/tourists take so much worsening of the Las Vegas "experience" at their dirty corporate hands throughout the years, that I don't think they think this will affect them negatively. I don't see how 8 more acres of the same upscale shops, and trendy chef of the moment weirdo fusion, tiny portion restaurants is going to be an improvement over what they have now. If there gonna do away with the fountains, add more tables with better rules, a shit ton of better paying poker machines/slots, then it may be palatable to me. But more Armani, Louis Vitton, Tom Ford stores?!?!? You got the same shit right next door at The Forum Shoppes.

it IS a huge valuable piece of real estate. for that reason, WITHOUT having inside information, one would not be surprised if they did something else with it down the road. no rumors or crystal ball needed to come to that conclusion.

    All lies.

The article was titled "Bellagio Fountains to close after Drake’s Billboard Music Awards performance?”" and the LVRJ has now changed that to “MGM Resorts denies rumor of Bellagio Fountains closure post-Drake performance.”

Jenn Michaels, the Head of PR for MGM Resorts, called Robin out on it almost immediately.

    Official release from MGM

Obviously the Fountains are going nowhere, however, i think MGM should consider adding enhancements to the Fountain show.

First of all have the Fountain show start at 10:00 am every day.
Have the water show in various colors especially after dark.
Bring the cast members of "O" out to perform for a song at the Fountain. "O" is probably sold out during the time they are in Vegas, but it may bring in those same people next time and/or get people into Belaggio after seeing the water show that there's more to Bellagio than just gaming.
Have the Cebrities who are perfoming at various MGM venues in Vegas perform live at one of the water shows using their biggest hit. Celine Dion would be nice but she's Caesars property.

And if MGM really wants to do something that not only brings people into Bellagio but does it in a way that's really entertaining before the guests arrive at the Hotel they could:

Have water shuttles that transport you from the Strip back to the Hotel and then of course people can use the shuttles back out to the Strip. Sort of like the Rio shuttle. The water shuttles will be similar to the Venetian Gondolas.
The water shuttle, of course, would only be in transit while the water show is between performinces. Can the "water taxis" bring you under the bridge up till the entrance?
But the whole idea of enhancing the Fountain show is what they did for Bruno Mars and Drake. Use the Lake as a precursor to what lies ahead inside the Bellagio

Use the Fountain/Water show as an enticement to enter the property where money can be spent. many people will watch the show but then leave to go somewhere else. On the North end of Bellagio you can enter the property after the water show quite easily, however you have to walk past expensive stores that most people can't afford and it takes forever to enter the Casino. On the South end you have to walk up the hill about a half mile and many people don't care to do that because they have already been there done that inside Bellagio.
Have BJ tables on Gondolas floating in the lake lol.

But seriously, Caesars extended Bally's out to the Strip with the Bally's Bazaar as a way of getting people into the property from the Strip. It will be awhile before we know Caesars was right or it was a costly mistake. Imperial Palace extended the main entrance by having gaming and food/drink options before entering the main Hotel, i consider that successful.
But Bellagio has a unique problem with all that outside property not being a cash flow (no pun intended). The Fountain show, at least to most people, is good enough with music and water and to take pics and videos and then go on to another property. The Fountain show is no longer a Bellagio Hotel/Casino event, it's a Vegas event for free.

Hey, i have an idea...........have long mobile walkways (like Caesars used to have a long time ago in a galaxy far far away) to get people up the hill to the main entrance. They will be accessable for disabled people as well.

Wow, more shopping and celebrity restaurants that's exactly what the strip needs.
