I live in LV, but work out of town. Every other Friday I trek to Rio for Three Card Poker, lunch and to pick up the locals gift if it is desirable.
Got there about 10am Friday...had watched the news about the big Labor Day crowds and roads were very busy. Walking in, I was thinking of my back-up plan if the table was full. Got to the gaming floor...completely dead without even one TCP table open for business.

Walked to the Palms to enter my football contest picks. The pool area and east tower are still completely torn up. To their credit, the noise level inside the casino has abated although there still is a covered construction walk-way on the west side entrance. I think the construction will impact if you were to get a room in the wrong spot. Still would recommend avoiding.

Back to the Rio at 11:20...still no tables available. Caught the eye of the pit boss and asked if TCP was going to be open today...he said yes at noon. I mentioned, in a nice way, "It is a holiday weekend you know." He was somewhat embarrassed and said there is nothing he can do, it is staffing cutbacks which he repeated twice.

So I skipped playing there at all. Picked up my Dirt Devel spray floor mop and went home. The good news, with that give-a-way, Christmas shopping for my wife is complete!!!

You, my dear, are a brave man. LOL. My hope is that included with the mop you have written your wife a lovely poem or love letter. I wouldn't mind a new mop, but I would never let my hubs off THAT easy! Although, we stopped exchanging gifts for Christmas almost 20 years ago. ;)

Thanks for the report, but man what a concept. I wonder if I can give Mrs. AlanLeroy a new mop for Christmas and live to tell about it. I'll just tell her it's the gift that keeps on giving! Maybe even a Swifter.

That poor poor woman! How about you tell her that YOU will be using the Dirt Devil whenever she would like, wherever she feels it's needed over the next year as your Christmas present to her.

Oh, the Rio. CET is kinda stuck with it. It's such a huge convention property, off Strip, that they're just not willing to put the millions of dollars needed to get it back to it's former glory...and nobody else is either.

If CET had been smart, they would have built a tram from the Forum shops to the back of Rio over the freeway and train tracks. The distance between the corner of the property and Forum Shops parking garage is remarkably short. It would have connected Rio to the strip with a 5 minute ride. It's less than 800 feet from the back of the Forum Shops garage to the corner of Rio's big, empty lot.

Glad someone got the joke. Building that tram is a good idea although I don't know how long it would take for the ROI. There are probably twenty people in a room everyday plotting how to get the WSOP moved to another CET property.

This just gave me an idea. When my husband asks what I want for Christmas, I'm going to ask for this....but he's gonna have to do it naked!

Speaking of this....I was at the Rio last weekend and a bartender told me he just found out that the Rio was losing the WSOP. It will be moving to the new Forum convention center being built behind Flamingo/Linq.

Thank you for your report. The Rio keeps circling the drain and regardless of what Stations does to the Palms, it will never be as good as what it was years ago. The buffet at the Palms was OK when it opened, and then went downhill after that, and there's not enough variety of video poker to warrant making a trip to play there.

That's the plan for 2020 but Caesars denies it as expected. The Rio might be sold by 2020. The new Forum convention center will enable people to have easy access on the Strip as opposed to off Strip. The key being walking distance from the Strip to Koval LN as opposed to using a car or public transportation to get to Rio. The new CC will be huge, and the location, just behind the Wheel, will be something to see. Also, they're in the middle of construction of the LinQ Zip line. I personally like what Caesars is doing. Getting rid of Rio, and expanding further east all the way to Koval LN. What that does is keeping tourists entertained on center Strip, anchored by Caesars, Bally's, and Cromwell at the three corners with the fourth corner being the gorgeous Lake Como at Bellagio
I'll be there in a few weeks and will take pics.

You should have strolled next door to the Gold Coast.... 3-card, as well as UTH available there for $5 min.

If the Rio loses the WSOP, they might as well just implode the place.

Or just sell it to the highest bidder, regardless of what that bid is...

Gold Coast doesn't have the six card bet for three card poker so I don't play there. Will be making that trip again on Friday so I will see if I can actually find a table at Rio.

A lot of those poker players stay off strip to save money so I don't think at least half of them would see paying strip prices as a positive.

When the Rio first opened with one tower, it was THE place for fun. Rio Rita and her games,
great VP and inexpensive food...and everyone remembered your name. We watched it go
downhill especially when Caesars took over. Stopped in last week and was appalled. Casino is so dark,
the machines looked dirty and are tighter than tight and both casinos were ghost towns. Cocktail waitresses were few and far between.
I remarked to a TR agent that they made a mistake taking out the Masquerade parade in the sky. He said that
just last week the powers that be are discussing bring it back to bring in more customers. He said their
downfall came when they were bought out by Caesars and basically neglected. I'd love to see it
come back to the fun days.

I knew I was well and truly married when my wife bought me a lawn mower for my birthday. FWIW, I NEVER bought any housecleaning appliance as a Christmas, birthday, Mothers Day or Anniversary gift. Thanks dear! Been a Widower for awhile now, but I still know better than that. I DID recognize and enjoy the joke though!

Stopped in Friday for my LV Knights shirt. Actually the place was pretty busy. Talked to the 3-Card dealer and they are opening the tables at 10am now. No complaints although Guy Fiero's restaurant stopped offering Happy Hour so we went over to the Cornerstone at GC which is excellent for HH. BTW...the west side of the Palms is still a loud, construction mess.

What’s going on at Nove at the Palms? Can’t find anything online. We were there in April before they closed but wasn’t able to get a drink at the bar. We had our wedding reception there.
