Way too many people go to Las Vegas for things I don't understand, but once I decided what I wanted from a trip The Orleans placed very high on my list. Many years ago I first enjoyed the view from Rio's Voodoo Lounge. I immediately decided that I would take my wife there for reasons romantic. The rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, incredible views of the strip. The Carnival in the Sky is fantastic(we paid to ride in a float), the casino vibe is loud fun. Now, as a more mature value-player, the terrible video poker odds of Rio is the first obstacle to enjoying that property. Next, the legendary success of their buffets (unearned some years) causes all of their food and liquor to be overpriced. Finally, when I come down to play at night I want the lowest table minimum to be five dollars, not twenty-five. Orleans rooms lack a fridge, but they are recently updated, some of the largest standard rooms in town, and generally quiet. Lots of reasonable food choices(avoid the breakfast buffet), and a casino where you can enjoy yourself and still have a conversation above the noise.
