On the news today. Revel files for second bankruptcy in two years. Said if hey can't find a buyer real soon they will be laying off employees starting August 18th. It will be a shame to see it close before summer ends,

If they don't find a buyer and actually shutter their doors it will be shocking. A brand new massive glass behemoth on the boardwalk just abandoned. Especially with Showboat rumored to close down a month later, that end of the boardwalk will be dead as hell.

Anyone know if Revel is the biggest failed casino venture in history?

I've also heard a rumor from a fairly reputable source that Trump Plaza is on the chopping block as well.

My understanding is that they picked that date in order to satisfy the 60-day warning requirement, not because it's actually a target for when they might close. It's just the earliest date they'd be allowed to conduct layoffs; they're playing it safe and/or trying to make sure they have leverage over the union.

Another Atlantic City Casino may be biting the dust

Per Philadelphia Inquirer, Friday, 06/20/2014 , Revel Casino Hotel is filing for bankruptcy for a second time. I believe this was a 2.6 billion project when originally built. It was non-smoking when opened but a smoking area was opened some time later.
Very high end hotel/casino, perhaps too high end to compete with Caesar's and Borgota. If it closes this would be the second one this year in AC, as the Atlantic Club closed in January.

I read something today but not from the PHL Inquirer and it said the bankruptcy could take place in mid August. Build it (casino) and they will come not so much now. IMHO people just don't have the income they did some years ago, so gaming will continue to take a hit.

Heard that last night from some guys working at the Nugget, word is that they sent employees an email telling them to prepare for layoff in Sept. Last night at the GN we hung out on the Deck listening to BStreet Band. Weather was perfect ,just a gorgous night out there. Today was one of those days you just loved to be outside. After checking out of GN,we drove over to Revel (free parking) and took a nice walk along the boardwalk and had lunch outside at the Irish Pub. I forgot to bring a hat,so I had to buy one of those dumb 99 cent caps that say Atlantic City on them .Kept the sun off my noggin anyway. We made it back to Revel to go home and there was a young guy dancing on a wall outside. I tossed him the cap and told him he was todays dance contest winner and the prize was a hat, retail value .99.He and his friends thought it was pretty funny .Gambling ,not too good, typical.AC Press said it could close in Aug.

What are you even talking about? Borgata has been getting that on weekend nights for years. It's not Camden or Newark it's AC in the summer, on the BW. Average room in NY is $350 with no casino and no BW. AC in summer is a HELL of a lot nicer to be in than LV.

your comparing nyc to ac , thats a big strectch who need a casino in nyc u have the best food and nitelife and broadway and the hottest girls and no snuki and jwow and pauly dbag , yes ive been to borgota. its cheaper to fly to vegas then to stay in ac. whats wrong with camden , i need hubcaps and crack where would u go.and no bussiness can last with only summer and weekends to survive.

ac theres not much to do, no really big shows by around 2 am dead .on weekdays its really dead, tons of hookers on the streets so thats a plus. its jersey, did i mention its still jersey.its not the hamptons where the rich people go or nyc

""AC in summer is a HELL of a lot nicer to be in than LV"" you need to get more if you really belive that.

Haven't been to AC in nearly 5 years so I have not visited Revel yet. Sounds like it is in a poor location up north near Showboat. The casinos along the Boardwalk have some rough neighborhoods just a couple of blocks away so I'm sure a lot of families are not thrilled to go there when they can go to Ocean City instead.

the revel is at the end other side of showboat , last casino on the boardwalk. real nice place but when they opened they said where not targeting gamblers , where going to be a hotel, spa, club destionatiion with hotel rates 3-400$ a nite it was a joke. whos paying that to go to ac .i could stay next door for free at showboat , i mean cet rules the comps down theres as they have the most properties so its easy to get a free room and free is better than 300$ any dayand u dont spend much time in the room anyway

The Revel will probably be a great lesson for business school students on what not to do in order to succeed. The Revel casino is really nice. Just a beautiful building. CET would love to have it and close Showboat.

Id love them to have it too. All the CET casinos are pretty dumpy on the boardwalk, Caesars included. The only one which is semi nice would be harrahs but that's far away next to borgata. I get comped at borgata as well , so I'll take that over the CET choices even if it's not on the boardwalk. If they took over revel, id stay there in a heartbeat.
