    My Trip Report

One day we all decided to go across the street ans check out The Palms. We were really disappointed in it. For a newer casino, it looked old to me. Alot of bare floors. They didn't offer much in the way of comps we thought. We all lost about $80 bucks here and there and ended up all four of us in a row playing Cave Man Keno for one quarter at a time. The drink lady was great. We Had bloody marys with three olives each time we had a drink, which were coming pretty steady. "I never ate so many olives in my life as I did this trip.We only ate breakfast and dinner, so this was our lunch.(alot of days)
My husband was always against keno, saying that it was the worst odds for the player. I can't tell you how much fun we had at so many places sitting around playing this when we were losing. For those of you who are not familiar with this game, you pick your numbers from 3 to 10 numbers, by touching the screen. Each time you touch a number, it sounds like a cave man chiseling the number out. The machine draws 20 numbers while a cave man, and a dinosaur are chasing each other all over the screen. Dinosaur eggs are cracking if the numbers drawn land on any of the 3 eggs scattered on the screen. If 2 eggs crack you get 4x your winnings if you hit enough numbers to pay. If 3 eggs crack, and you have a winner, you get 10 x the winnings. Of course this is really beneath the guys, so they have to grunt and hollar "CAVE MAN KENO!" while they'e playing, not unlike Tim the toolman Taylor.(these guys are in their 50"s)
I hit 6 out of 6 at the Gold Coast with 2 coins in and I think it was over $300.00. I'm not sure because I hit a couple of other times in the same round where I got 100 and 200 coins.
I cashed out $100.00 on the nickel Texas Tea game. That's fun. Especially if you want somebody to talk to you. It's a cute cartoon Texas oil tycoon.
We even hit the bingo at the Gold Coast one day. The guys wouldn't be caught dead going to Bingo at home, but they figured they'd go through their money slower. My sister only needed one number for a thousand dollars. I was sure she'd get it. Third time's a charm. She didn't.
You can win big bucks there. One lady had a single line bingo, but all the numbers in the bingo were blue which meant she won the bonus. The caller actually gasped when she showed it up on the screen. The lady won $200.00 for the single line, and $10,000.00 for the bonus. She was bawling her eyes out.
When the bingo was over, we stayed upstairs and played on the machines. We didn't realize there were any up there. I hit four aces again. Just for a $100.00 this time, but I was happy.
The next day we took the shuttle to the Barbary Coast and walked down to the Imperial Palace to play the Gold Mine poker machines at the sports bar at the bar.
Yes Vegas Kathy... More lucky poker machines at the bar. My sister has always been lucky there, but this time both her husband and I hit the 4 aces for $100.00.I cashed out and went to play on the slots in the passage way leading to the buffet. I won over $200.00 on 2 Haywire machines. I cashed out. Man, you know, I never realized how much money I won this trip until I started telling you guys. I put alot of it back but I paid for our hotel room, bought three or four dinners, bought stuff for the kids, and I only cashed 2 of my travellers cheques, my whole trip. My poor hubby had no luck at all, so I staked him a few times too. This was the best trip I ever had for cashing out everyday. Believe me I've been the one not even going near a cash cage all week.
Anyway, we decided to try and catch the Mac King show at 3:00, and we just made it. It was a great show for the money. Thanks BJems. We decided to work our way down to Casino Royale, but had to make a stop at Kayto wins Cashs' Betty Boop World Tour machines. Think we had the right ones, but it was no ATM machine for us. We deposited $40.00 each, and headed for the Royale. Guess we don't have the touch that Kayto has.
Didn't win a thing at Casino Royale, but the waitress was bringing us 2 bloody Marys at a time. Had lots of fun and ate too many damn olives.
Went Mothers Day to the Alladin for the best buffet in town It was fabulous. Every bite was an experience. We signed up for the $25.00 mini slot tourney.(300 credits on fixed machines that pay every time) if you got enough credits, you could win $50.00. We didn't, but we knew we wouldn't when we signed up. We got 2 free mugs(big deal) we could pick a prize, or take a $20.00 voucher for the buffet. That was our plan. We also received $10.00 in free slot play. My husband thought it must be fixed, but I cashed $30.00 from my $10.00. So I was ahead.I would definitely go back to that buffet.
Then we headed to Paris to see Andre Phillipe Gagnon. One of the best shows I've seen. He was wonderful. There was a big screen behind him and he started off the show by singing all the different voices of We are the World while it showed each star singing behind him. He apparently always goes into the audience to imitate the voice of one of the audience members. There was nobody in the audience who wanted to "not" get chosen more than my brother-in -law and husband. My brother-in-law made us change seats with him before the show, because we were front row centre, and he thought he was too close to the middle, and he didn't want to get picked.
Well guess what. He got picked and had to sing Memories. Just when my husband thought he was out of the woods, he had to do it too. What a hoot!
He did a duet with Celine on the screen as he sang exactly like Frank Sinatra.(not my husband, Andre) Really enjoyed it.
I finally got to see the dancing waters at Bellagio. I was so impressed.
Went back to Gold Coast, and cashed out $230.00 on the Jeopardy machine and went to bed.
Monday was our last full day. We sat around the pool for awhile, then gambled. None of us were too lucky, except my sister was trying not to get into her winnings, and was playing nickel triple trouble keno. She cashed out $100.00.
They have an icecream cone parlour in the Casino so I forced myself to have one. It's one of my weaknesses. It was worth every calorie.Great icecream!
You Americans probably won't appreciate this info, but our Canadian liquor is alot more expensive than yours, and we find that The gift shop and liquor store at The Gold Coast is way less expensive than buying it at the duty free. We always made a special trip there in the past to pick up our liquor to take home. It's only $7.00 and change for 1.75 litres and most of it is in plastic bottles. We still have to declare it, but it saves the stop at the duty free after a long trip.
We caught a cab back to the airport the last day. Our flight was great. No surprises.Directly direct. In fact, we landed 10 minutes early. The steward and stewardess on Southwest Air even sang
for us.All in all, it was a wonderful week. It just went by too quickly. I didn't do half the things I planned. I guess I'll just have to go back.

Hey Lynne, I'm Canadian as well, and everytime I go to Vegas I stop at the duty free shop at the Ambassador bridge when taking my flight out of Detroit Michigan. (I live in Windsor,Ontario). It usaully runs me about $14.00 Canadian for a 1.4 litre bottle which is like a forty oz.bottle. I will discontinue to do this since you've gleaned this information on me. Plus,I was always worried due to the increase in security at the airport that they would dump it out of my carry on, I wouldn't put it in my luggage due to the possibility of it breaking. Anyways I was wondering if you've ever been to The Orleans hotel, which I think is run by the Coast property company, and if so do they have a liqour store there with the same prices? if you don't know this answer, can you give me a general idea where the liqour store is at the Gold Coast. Thanks, Joel

    Hey Faded!
Yes they do have the same deal at the Orleans. I think the store is called Terribles, but it's the gift shop anyway. You can't miss it.Its nice to be able to get beer or coolers to have in your room and not be charged a fortune. Most of the big liquor bottles are plastic so its easier to travel with them. We've never had a problem with security. As long as you declare them when you cross back at the border you should be fine. The Orleans looked like a great Casino. I'd consider staying there. That's where my sister hit one of her Royal Flushes. Hope you break the bank.Eh? [IMG]

Thanks for the info on the Gold Coast. I am planning 2 trips next year; one with my son.

I think that I'd like to try off strip (GC) or downtown for a change. I enjoy eating my meals downtown and there is so much to do all close together. It all depends on the deals as the time draws near, I guess. I enjoyed the buffet at the Gold Coast and am glad to hear that the rooms were fine! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Thanks so much for the info eh. I'll have to bring an extra suitcase to fill up. To tell you the truth I'm staying at the Luxor, but I know the Orleans isn't that far away from Luxor. I'll just cab it, look around some and buy my booze there. Thanks again.

    Hey Faded!

If you're going to be on the strip near Ballys or the Flamingo, There is a shuttle to The Gold Coast, and one to The Orleans. They run about every 15 minutes or so from The Barbary Coast on the side of the building directly across from Ballys. To save a couple bucks, you might want to take the shuttle there, and the cab directly back if your arms are full. If you know what I mean eh?
Oh yeah, the liquor store is very near the entrance where a cab would drop you off. Just go in the door, walk straight ahead, and you'll see it on your left hand side. There is some kind of a Travel agency right near it.
If you take the shuttle. Go in the door where they drop you off and go to your right. Keep going toward the side entrance and Front desk. You can't miss it.

Sorry, I've never set foot in there. I keep meaning to but I don't seem to get down to that end. Lots of others on this board have stayed there. I'm sure you'll get some useful info.
