In general, I think most (current) casino bosses and beancounters are incredibly short-sighted! They can barely envision past the current reporting period! However, the RW folks may be a bit cautious, especially when reviewing how Boyd bet the mortgage, literally, on the Echelon fiasco and almost lost their corporate @$$ to the Great Recession!

It's been 3 and a half years since they purchased the property so saying they are a bit cautious is a huge understatement! Seemingly they want to take on a project of this magnitude with ZERO risk - that's not going to happen, not now not ever. Maybe they just don't have the visionary leadership to pull this off.

And you think Resorts World will do this? I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.

I'm predicting there will be no values, parking fees and little in the way of competition for the big boys.

They're adding 3,000 rooms. That by definition is competition.

With that being said, I still don't believe it will ever open.

real value to customers?? I sure hope so, but I would not count on it. and if they did, they would eliminate those real values within a few weeks or months of opening. and then they would wonder why they don't have any business.

More competition is good for customers and it's surrounding areas.. it will even draw more people and casino have to aggressive moves to fill hose planned 3,000 rooms and that's just for Resort world - and hopefully MGM and CET would try to keep their clients therefore it creates better marketing opportunities for visitors well least for while when they open.......but it's based on speculation of what may happen within next couple of years.... so will see.

I'm lost on this whole Chinese thing. It made sense before Macau came to be, but why now? Why would someone hop on a jet and fly that many hours to isolate themselves in this little "village", when they have the real deal right in their backyard?

Well for one, Macau is heavy on gambling but not much else. It's much much different than Vegas as a whole. While gambling revenues are huge there, the overall area is smaller, and there are less restaurants, shows, shopping, etc. than Vegas. Furthermore, the comps are next to nothing, even for the whales. 7 Figure credit line players don't get much more than a room comp, and we're not talking extravagant villas or suites, more like a base room. Then you have the whole political issues between the Chinese government and Macau gambling. Macau and Vegas aren't really interchangeable. It's a bit like asking "Why bother going to Aruba when you can go to the beach in Florida?". Or perhaps a more accurate comparison is "Why fly across the country to go to Vegas when you can go to the casino in Atlantic City or Cleveland?". There are certainly similarities, but in the end you have completely different experiences.

Here's is the article I copied and pasted - hopefully they start the project soon

    Resorts World Kickstarter

No, the Genting Group’s proposed $7 billion Resorts World property on the Strip isn’t petitioning donations online. But the financials from Lucky Dragon might be reason enough for the Malaysian-based company to finally move forward with the project.

Resorts World is the theorized 6,583-room resort with a 175,000-square-foot gaming floor. The Asian-themed concept has been delayed one year after another, as Genting has cited falling currency for the reason for the company’s decreased global investment power.

The massive construction undertaking is likely to be scaled back, but Genting executives were recently in Vegas seeking the blessing of the city’s zoning commission to move forward with the project. Genting is expected to release a new blueprint for the acreage in April.
