Im pretty sure they scratched the asian theme idea, and opening is planned for very late 2020(nov-dec)

The "scrapping of the Asian theme" was a rumor on Vital Vegas' Twitter page. You never hear anything from Genting in regard to this project, so who knows.

Its great that they have pretty much completed the bones of the hotel tower over the past 18 months, but I haven't seen enough progress on the areas closer to ground level to make me confident that this place is going to open at all in 2020.

By looking at the outside of the building it looks more like Wynn or encore .. like it’s their sister property’s. Far from Asian theme to it. Regardless I’m sure it’s gonna be good for all of us, more competition better customer service.

Not really. Caught glimpses of it several times over the last couple of days.
The ground level is still fenced off with construction equipment and some lighting. A couple of cranes still sitting there.
Red paint on the sides probably will end up LED signage of some sort, it seems. Doesn't look much different from late July or so.

Here's a photo I took from my room last week. I saw people working and cement trucks coming and going but there really weren't many people given the size and scope of that project.

Also....does anybody know what is going up in the second photo? I took that as I panned to the right from the Resort World photo.

I know someone who works for Resort World in the UK and any rumors that the Vegas location is "scrapping its Asian theme" are false. ALL of the Resort World properties worldwide have an Asian theme and this one will too.

Is that second picture where the Riviera used to be? It was planned to build an extension of the convention center there. Could be that as it looks on the picture. To open for CES 2021 was the original plan, not sure if this still is the case

Sure, but "Asian theme" can be pretty vague in many instances. The NYC and Catskills locations are only "Asian" to the extent you consider "lots of red" to count. There was originally talk about a panda habitat and things like that; I get the sense that at this point it's going to be more of an overall vibe than a true theme.

To me, pictures of the hotel tower that are taken from the north/northwest side of the place make it look really choppy with the three "red columns" breaking up the glassed portion of the tower. Can anyone in construction/architecture/design explain this?

Eventually it will have more of a Red exterior than Wynn. I am sure they will keep more of the asian theme - The owners really want to give their asian high hollers a nice place in Vegas to stay.

Still exciting seeing a new building of this size going up.

    Just like the number "8".

"In China, it is customary to regard even numbers as being more auspicious than odd ones. So, gifts are given in even numbers for the celebration of all occasions. No. 8 has long been regarded as the luckiest number in Chinese culture. With pronunciation of 'Ba' in Chinese, no. 8 sounds similar to the word 'Fa', which means to make a fortune. It contains meanings of prosperity, success and high social status too, so all business men favor it very much. Moreover, in some areas of China, people prefer to pay much more money for a telephone number with 8 in it. They also favor residences on the eighth floor of buildings. In 1990s, a vehicle identification number with 8 was once auctioned off for 5 million Hong Kong dollars."
