I have booked my rental car with thrifty (prepaid from the UK) and read that you need to present a CC at pickup.

Any idea how much they hold on the CC?

For Statesiders it's usually a few hundred, depending on what kind of car, how long, and estimated total. They usually release it promptly.

Are you talking a credit card, or a debit card. Much different.

A european debit card is much different then an american debit card as long as it associated with Visa or MasterCard etc. It works the same way as a credit card when shopping abroad and there is no chance that the car company or wherever you choose to use it will know the difference. As a customer you will even have to check the credit card option when you choose type of payment since thats the only way your card will work.

To OP, check terms and conditions on your booking and you should be able too see how much the hold is.

    Definitely a credit card.

T&Cs just say a hold - no specified amount. I'm renting from Thrifty but through a UK site as they include all insurances.

Ok, if its prepaid I'm not even sure they would put a hold on it if you have all the insurances. Otherwise it says on their website that the estimated hold is rental charges + 15% under FAQ.

As it turns out, the prepaid voucher I had meant there was no hold. Perfect!
