    My Trip Report

    Just got into town.

Taking some risks on this trip.

Risk 1 - Fly Spirit Airlines.

Risk 2 - Stay at Luxor

Decided to stay at Luxor because there was a cheap 2-night comp on MyVegas. Spirit was the only cheap flight that worked.

Got to O'hare, went through security, got to the gate and saw an email that my flight was going to be late. Standard Spirit. Stopped at an airport bar and ordered a beer. That made things better. Went back to the gate and saw people deplaning. Hour delay was now 20 minute delay. ...and the doors opened and they started boarding. Pulled away from the gate only 5 minutes late --- and bonus, the captain said the flight would be 30 minutes shorter than scheduled due to favorable winds. Landed 25 minutes early.

    WIN

Took Lyft to hotel. Quick and relatively cheap. Nice driver.

Check in at Luxor. Clerk says he is giving me a complimentary upgrade to a Tower room. Nothing special, but better than the standard Pyramid room I booked.

    WIN

The one thing I really noticed is that the south strip closes early. The Excal food court closed, restaurants, bars, all closed by 1 am.

Ended up going to Cosmo for Secret Pizza and playing a bit. Amazing drink service while playing. ...and some wins.

Tomorrow going downtown to see them take down Vegas Vickie. (but she will return) ...and there will be pictures.

We got an upgrade to a tower room and I was stupid enough not to take it because I actually wanted to stay in the pyramid for one night. Wow that was dumb. Room leaked on us when it rained.

    Good luck today!

Wow, the south part of the strip is usually very busy. Didn't know they close that early, if at all, LOL! Maybe because it's like that on weekdays?

Watching them take down Vegas Vickie should be interesting.

    Have a great time!

Well, I know if I ever were to decide to stay at Luxor I would like to stay in the pyramid rooms also. I like cheesy kinds of stuff.

I know Luxor played down the Egypt theme and spent money on renovating the casino but why don't they spend money and renovate the pyramid rooms? I've read lately how terrible the rooms were (old and outdated) and the inclinator is noisy and jerky.

Maybe if they do that more people would decide to stay there.

Went downtown today, but Vegas Vickie was still where she's always been. Saw Derek Stevens, but avoided the impulse to chase him down and ask. He was walking with purpose, so I figured he had someplace to be and security might be called. Might go back down tomorrow, but I have until 4 pm to get to the airport. If I knew they would be doing the work.

In other, risky news, I ate at the Luxor buffet tonight. It was a MyVegas comp, so it was free. The quick review is that it is OK. There is a wide selection of mundane food with the fried chicken and the chicken curry as the best things I tried. The desserts are pretty good. The real problem is that it would be a great $12 buffet, but as a $25 buffet, there is no value. There is good peel and eat shrimp and crayfish, but I would skip the California rolls. Everything, including drinks, is self serve. The sad thing is that I would rank Luxor over Mandalay Bay's buffet these days.

Gambling was extremely hit or miss. Got a dealt 4 of a kind at MSS and received 3 scratch offs for $3. It was pretty much, play big and lose, play small and win. Lost my initial bankroll, which was very small and decided to stop playing since nothing I was going to play would positively affect future offers. I'm not getting status at MGM properties next year, so I'm not bothering. It's better to stay on budget and have other fun.

Walked up to watch the Bellagio fountain show. Caught Uptown Funk, which is a fun song everyone was dancing to, but the fountain show was really dull. Amazing how many people were selling beer out in front of the fountains. It was super sketchy, with people rolling coolers, bags and even a giant catering cart full of beer, openly selling along the strip. Surprised how few Metro officers I've seen on the strip this trip. Of course, my last trip was the day after the guy had the standoff on the bus outside Cosmopolitan.

I'll post some pictures in a bit.

Actually they are finally starting to renovate the the pyramid rooms. The renovation looks to be decent from pics I've seen. But if it rains you still might get leaked on. We were told that was due to poor seals in the pyramid itself when it happened to us.

Look forward to the pics @Hyperfocal!

    Got home. S

My big and very geeky win of the day was finding the Lego Saturn V rocket kit at the Lego store in the Fashion Show Mall. I've been looking for that for a while and it's going for 3x the price on Ebay. Luckily, they ship for a fraction of the price of a Spirit Airlines carryon bag.

Biggest disappointment was waking up to pictures of Vegas Vickie on a trailer. I had so wanted to be part of that. I've been lucky to get some nice souvenirs from Las Vegas Club and La Bayou courtesy of Derek Stevens.

Your trips sound like mine. Luxor and Spirit air. Decided to book Spirit for my June 24-28th trip and got R/T non-stop for $140 at the airport. Yes, $140 R/T purchased at the airport. I also used a Comp 3 night stay for Luxor in an upgraded Cleo room just pay resort fee through mlife, however I knew I wanted a tower room. No big deal, call VIP Services and they change the comp stay to the Tower room and also mentioned without me asking that the resort fee was also included in the deal.

Two big wins and the trip hasn't started. I actually don't mine the Luxor buffet, then again I usually make it on McDonalds and Subway along with my "splurge" meal at Hooters one of the days I'm there. I honestly rarely use the food & beverage credit on foot...it's usually drinks charged back to the room at TAP at MGM Grand if I catch a sports game while on vacation.
