    My Trip Report

A co-worker had gone to an Indian casino while traveling and called to tell me that he had won $25 buy-in poker tourney, his second to ever play, and sent me a picture of his first royal flush. This got me really wanting to go to the casino. So I checked my offers and had some free nights at Sam's Town in Tunica that were still available for that Saturday night. So Friday I made the decision that the wife and I need to go. She made reservations for the pups and I booked us a Saturday night at Sam's Town.

We get up early and drop the dogs off at 7:00 in the morning and hit the road. After a some quick stops at the bank, Starbucks for breakfast and new windshield wipers for the car we were on the road. We pulled up to Sam's Town at 11:00 am. They had a room ready so they went ahead and let us check in. When we walked in one big change that had been made is that the upstairs part of the casino had been completely closed off. Even the back escalators had been completely walled off and you couldn't even tell they were there. My wife actually thought they had taken them out. I was concerned that since this is where most of there VP was that VP play would be limited. Luckily this was not the case.

We played around at Sam's Town for a few hours but just could not get anything really going. Below are the 4OAK's that we hit. It seemed like every time we would stop playing DDB we would hit a premium 4OAK with the kicker. 20150221_203614.jpg 20150221_144810.jpg 20150221_142207.jpg 20150221_140314.jpg 20150221_121702.jpg

Unfortunately these were the only 4OAKs that we hit for the trip. In the past I have really enjoyed Sam's Town but over the last few years they have really gone down the list as my favorite place to play in Tunica. But as long as they are going to let me stay there for free I plan on staying there. However this trip we were ready to pay for a room at Hollywood if we could have gotten one.

We really like the vibe at Hollywood so we went across the street to give them some play to see if maybe we could start getting some offers from them. We did even worse here. We could not hit a thing to save our lives. After losing there for a few hours we headed back to Sam's town to give it one more try. Our bank roll was getting low so we decided to try something different. We decided to play the old 3 wheel $1 slots together. we were only going to play the 2 coin max machines and once we lost $20 we would cash out and try another. So we put $100 in and started. We were playing a double/ triple machine and before we could get down to $80 we hit it for $1000. We cashed that out and decided to try again on another $100. We played around on a few machines and were just about down to $40 when we hit another machine for $750. We are finally back up for the day and decide to call it a night.

We really enjoy the buffet at the Horseshoe and I had 2 free buffets so Sunday morning we check out and head to the Horseshoe for their Sunday brunch. We get there and ate and decided we had a little time to play plus I would like to continue to get the free buffet offers. SO we start jumping around and neither of us can get anything going and are just steadily losing the winnings we had left Sam's Town with when my wife suggested we try the same thing we did the night before. So we start picking a $1 machine and playing it down $20 and then moving on to the next. We get down to $40 and find one of the machines just like the one we hit the $1000 on the night before. We decide to go for all or nothing on it and we ended up hitting it for $1000. We cashed that out and decided it was time to leave so we could get home in time to pick up the dogs.

This was one of the VERY few times that we have been able to go gambling and actually come home with more then we took. We were very happy with this and it made for a good ride home. We had talked about just putting the money back in the bank but decided we would just put it away and let it finance our next 2 trips to Tunica.

Overall it was a great trip but have decided 1 night is not enough. I have a tendency to over do it when I can't spread it out over a couple of nights. I was really liquered up by the time we got to bed Saturday night. If I know I am going to be there a couple of nights I tend to take it a little slower.

Sorry I don't have pictures of our slot wins but we were so excited about the wins we never thought about taking pictures.

    Thanks for reading.

Congratulations on the winning trip. It seems like those hits came when you needed it most.

Good report! Love Roxy's bar at Sam's! 9/6 JoB for quarters and Todd who works there could be the best bartender in all of Tunica.

The bad thing about Sam's Town and video poker is that most of the paytables are crap, except 9/6 JoB (99.54%). And it looks like you kept hitting things with a kicker while playing Jacks! Ugh!

If you're consistently playing dollars, I would conserve more DDB play to either Horseshoe, Roadhouse, or Gold Strike. All have 9/6 DDB (98.98%) for dollars. The first two have it everywhere, even at bars, but gold strike only has it on two machines described in the link below.

If you like craft beer like me, you can also play 9/6 DDB at Bally's. But Bally's sucks otherwise.

Thanks for the info. I usually stick to the .25 level but will run $100 through at the $1 level every once in a while for a change. I really enjoyed the upstairs bar when it was open because it was quite and hardly ever crowded. I am not a big country music fan and kinda got depressed at the bar downstairs. Don't really care to hear some one sing about the house where their favorite dog was buried.

I do like the Horseshoe, Roadhouse, Goldstrike group and really enjoy the poker room at the Horseshoe, but just have a hard time paying their weekend rates when I am comped at Sam's town. The Horseshoe is nice but those rates of $200 to $300 a weekend night is just too much for me. May try to get up there for a long weekend and squeeze in a Thursday night when the rates are a little bit easier to swallow. Do you know if they have a shuttle that runs between the Casinos?
