My trips almost always include a return flight on Monday evening. In the past, I have checked out on Monday morning and drug my suitecase around all day.

Is it unusual, unethical, or against hotel policies to add a fully comped room for Monday to my itinerary and check out Monday evening rather than Tuesday morning?

so you want a room to store your suitcase for the day? what's the point of that?

why would you drag your suitcase around the whole day anyway? just check it with the belldesk and come back for it when you are ready to leave ...

No you can do that they won't know or care just take care of room charges before you leave

I don't think they'd have a problem with it as long as they felt your play justified it.

But you can just leave your suitcase at the bell desk the day you check out, too, and wander unencumbered ...

1. I can sleep later that day. (I usually get back to my room about 4 or 5 am. Having to be out by 11 makes for a long day)

2. It's cheaper than $5 + tip to leave it at the bell desk (yes, I am that cheap about some things) :ssst:

Folks do that often.

I would do the room.

And double check your flight status BEFORE you head to the airport. If some sort of problem, you now have a room for the night.

I've read ALOT of trip reports where people have done this, not just for their suitcase, but because they wanted a room to relax in and clean up in during the day.

To me, it's not alot different than when I check out at 4am to catch an early flight.

Thanks for the responses. I have booked that extra day on my next trip. I was just feeling a little guilty because even though I am cheap, I am not a mooch.

CET has been very good to me on rooms (the only gaming I do is 4 to 7 hours of poker per day) and I don't want to be disrespectful of their hospitality.

well if you want it to sleep in later, that's different. in that case just book the extra night.

done this many times. never had an issue. others i know do this often as well. good luck!

We do this EVERY trip.

SWA has a direct to Austin that leaves around 8PM, it's pretty much a requirement for us to have a room for that last day.

No problem

I have done this often and it is not a problem. I guess the one issue might be that they "know you are there" and therefore expect gambling and it takes your Daily Gambling Rate down (but I would do it anyway). Plus, you can avail yourself of the facilities before you go.

I have had late flights and not had a room.. and I now ALWAYS have a room.. even if I have to pay for it. You never know what they day may bring, being tired, having a headache, just un-winding.. or if by chance your flight is delayed or rescheduled.. you have a place. Well worth it to me.

Hey, even if we have a late afternoon flight, I do the extra day. Why?

They sometimes are real tight on late checkouts, but if you want the entire freakin day/night - no problem. I can play that game.

In the history of my life, I don't think I've ever actually checked out at the front desk when I leave a hotel, so they don't know if I leave at 2am, 11am, or the night before. If you have the comp, you might as well use it. It's nice to be able to have a room to go back to, in case you want to catch a catnap or want to grab a quick shower ... or just have a nice, massive, and perfectly private dump. ;)

I am pretty much with you there. I am amazed at how many people stand in line to checkout. I just leave it on my card, or whatever. The only reason I checkout now is to charge off stuff to my express comps, and I often do that the night before - or should I say morning - as in 2am.

you don't even have to do that. you can just call up when you get home and have them apply your express comps and refund your card.

did not know that, but.... after having many EC checkouts totally screwed up, I now ask for a printout before they touch the account, and one after. Normal hotel checkouts with credit card tend to be 95% accurate, and I would not bother to even checkout. Since we built up EC's, I find they can really screw things up. And, since you can not SEE the account and what has happened, you need to have details handy.

Absolutely, if I am departing late in the day I will just go ahead and book for that evening. I depart at whatever time I choose. FROM HOME THE NEXT DAY, I just call the hotel and ask to speak with the casino host. I pretend like I am still in the hotel, tell them my room number, and ask what they can do for me in terms of picking up charges. They tell me, I thank them, and usually they ask if I am checking out. I say yes, please go ahead and check me out. Of course, the hotel will expect additional play earlier in the trip to justify the final night's room comp, so if your play is light this will impact your future offers.

I use the same system when checking out in normal fashion in the morning--call down, ask what the host can do, and tell them I am checking out. You can even check on the TV system at most hotels to make sure charges have been removed according to your conversation with the host. I never stand in line to check out of any hotel either, I just leave. If you need a copy of your folio for any reason, again you can just call the hotel and ask for it to be emailed to you.

Finally, I know of no hotel in the world which will charge to hold your bags at the bell desk. If you are worried about this expense, a $1 tip upon reclaiming the luggage should suffice and save what I would consider the insane aggravation of hauling a suitcase around for the day!
