My brother and I are staying in the El Co on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night of Memorial Day weekend. Most of our downtown vp play will be at El Co, 4Q, The D, and maybe DTG We have no interest in any of the PRB festivities. How is it gonna be on Sunday and Monday? Are the casinos packed? I'm also wondering how crowded the El Co parking garage is gonna be. We were planning on "Boydcotting" this trip in protest of the murder of their comp program. In light of the Punk Rock Bowling thing I wonder if MSS would be a better option since it's further from the action. Or since the actual bowling is at Boyd off-strip properties, the DT joints might host a big part of the crowd? There are still rooms available at MSS. I've read some of the past posts of the event on the board, but any other info/insight is appreciated.
Maybe I should have simply asked about PRB. At least then I might have gotten some good scoop on Blue Ribbon beer or bucking bulls.
Alright....I'll bite. It sucks!!! In my opinion -- one of the absolute worst weeks to be downtown. I unknowingly found myself submersed in it 3 years ago, during the downtown portion of my extended summer trip. Keep in mind though...that comes from a 35 year old midwestern male, most comfortable wearing jean shorts, a ripped up t-shirt, and a bandana to shield his bald head from the sun, while working on his demolition derby cars. To each, their own. But it engulfs the downtown area....no hotel is immune.
Is punk rock bowling just regular bowling with lights and punk music? or do they dress the pins up like the queen or something?
@tmaas21 Thanks very much for the information. I guess I need to plan on getting the hell out of DT on Sunday night and Monday. Traditional Country Horseshoes sounds more like my speed than Punk Rock Bowling.
I thought maybe they threw each other down the lanes, kinda like midget bowling. Maybe not, I am not sure.
My guess is that anyone going is less interested in the bowling part, and more interested in seeing Cocksparrer.
Our annual May trip last year was 14 days long. We stayed at 5 different casinos... The weekend that I decided to book rooms downtown (The Plaza) just happened to fall on PRB Weekend. It wasn't bad, but I probably would not book during PRB weekend again. Other than getting a visual shock sometimes, everyone was very friendly! There was just Sooooooo many people for PRB that it felt like downtown was getting taken over. I really felt like the main draw was the music stages and the fact that there was a large number of punk rock fans in the same place. I'm pretty sure they had shuttle bus schedules for the PRB events to the places outside of downtown. I had a worse time in Vegas during the Latin Grammys in November than I did during PRB weekend in May!! Next time I'll probably stay on the strip during PRB weekend and I'll avoid the Latin Grammys completely.
. I'm coming over from Scotland for PRB. 10 days in Vegas 4 strip and 6 downtown for some punk rock fun ☠
We were there last year and I didn't notice it being anymore crowded than usual all of the attendees were nice. There was just more tattoos, piercings and colored hair than usual. They are just people who like Vegas(like us). This is from a 64 year old conservative man from Arkansas One of the bowling teams names was " Split or Swallow."
