Where the Neon Museum will relocate to. The city posted concept renderings.



Check out the renderings for the new 5.5 story parking garage coming to the Arts District. The new parking garage will bring 500+ spaces, 10,000 square feet of retail, and some local art vibes with public art installations. It will be located at Casino Center and Utah.

Right now, the Arts District has:-480 on-street spots-874 lot spaces
We’ve added nearly 300 new parking spots in just the last two years, which is a 35% bump. We'll continue working on adding more before the parking garage opens in 2026.

Reminder: from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays, on-street parking is FREE in the Arts District.

Edit: the point of this post is not about parking spaces, but this is where the Neon Museum will be relocating, and there will be art and retail in this structure.

Did they decide to cut the proposed garage from 10 to 5 stories? This link is a bit older, but the other news reports I've read say the museum will "inhabit the 9th and 10th floors of the structure."

 
Personal opinion: they should strongly consider a grocery store as part of the retail. Granted I have East Coast bias when it comes to walkable livable neighborhoods, but that would really round out the neighborhood. Like, make it a neighborhood you never have to leave if you don't want to.
 
How is it an east coast bias to be able to walk to get groceries being a fundamental part of living in a "walkable" neighborhood? It's one of our most fundamental errands and most walkability scores I've seen require being able to do all or most of your errands on foot to score well on a walkability index.

As a resident of DC, we have this and so do Philly, NYC, Boston, and other cities. Out West i find more sprawled out cities/neighborhoods, like LA, Phoenix, and to some extent Vegas but less so there for sure.
 
I “think” @HoyaHeel meant it’s not just an eastern bias, it’s a fundamental need to have walkability for a neighborhood anywhere. Then again, any place that regularly is over 100 degrees for weeks would need to have everything within a block for me. 😜

Is the Arts District meant to be a residential area though? I didn’t get that impression.
 
There are condos there, same as downtown and the Strip. That is one thing which is missing from all of those areas, for those who choose to live there. At least downtown has a drug store, the Arts District doesn't have that.

People like the arts district because it's not soul-sucking sprawl, like the majority of the metro area, or auto-dominated mega properties like the strip. Like those above stated, the district would be better off encouraging more walkable amenities and not parking. Lean into what makes it unique instead of trying to turn it into another drive-in.

My understanding is that the going rate for a garage space these days is $70,000 a spot. That's $35m in just construction, before decades of maintenance, security costs, and insurance. By comparison, I wonder how much restoring the SDX bus route would cost, or extending the downtown shuttle hours to something actually useful (6pm, seriously?)
