Any reason hotel and flight prices are much higher this weekend? Especially flights out of Pittsburgh?

Strip hotels look about average that weekend. Southwest usually goes about 340 from pit. Frontier and Spirit will get to be about 100 base fare a few weeks out.

I can't figure it out either. There don't seem to be any big conventions but even downtown properties seem to have a bit higher rates this weekend. We are flying out from Cincy on 8/2 so have been watching rates too.

Economy is good. High consumer and business confidence. Bargains are harder to find. I've noticed it too. Atlantic City is on sale though.

There is a huge convention downtown at the World Market Center that ends on the 3rd. Check the convention calendar.

It's a long weekend in much of Canada. Do a lot of my fellow Canadians make a trip to Vegas in August?

Dunno but I'll be there - didn't even notice the overhead on this one as I have comped rooms at Bally's and I used TrueBlue points for the flight. Don't see anything out of the ordinary on the events calendar...

We are there 8/4-8 and fares when we booked were average. Have not checked fares since, but can't see that much going on............Rick

I saw that convention but didn't think it would affect rates the following weekend. Rates are low for weds and Thursday after - it's just the weekend and it is higher than other weekends in the month. -shrug-

There's a Star Trek convention that weekend at Rio.

... but that still doesn't explain why room rates are so high.

I'm sure it's because of the Canadian long weekend. We also have a "long weekend" in November and the rates were high for that weekend initially, but suddenly they jumped through the roof, causing me to arrive on the Monday instead of the Sunday.
