Trips to Las Vegas
12
It will be two weeks to the day that the wife and I will be leaving Detroit Metro airport , arriving in Vegas around 11:45 am Pacific time and staying at the Luxor. I received some deal a couple of months ago, Nefertitti's getaway (rooms for $59, or an extra $50 for a jacuzzi suite). We'll be staying 6 nights, because the flight and time I wanted was only on saturday, and being on east coast time the extra day won't hurt to adjust to pacific time. The only problem with that was I had to get into a regular room in one of the Luxor's towers for $99/night, which on a saturday night isn't all that bad. If anyone can recommend which tower to take a room in, east or west I would appreciate it. But when sunday arrives we're checking into a jacuzzi suite with hopefully a view of the strip (If anyone can recommend a good jacuzzi room with a good North east view of the strip that would be great as well). Maybe I'll try the $20 trick to see what kind of room I'll get.
The main reason I'm writing this pre trip report is that I have full blown Vegas fever. I know it is reaching a SARS like fever when the obsessive planning results in me going out just to buy running shoe cleaner just so my running shoes look clean when walking the strip. What the hell is that all about? Also making lists of what crap I want to bring on my carry on and how much clothes I want to bring. I told myself screw bringing any pants, just dress shorts because what I have heard it'll be about 100 in Vegas. I don't plan on going to any real fancy restaurants, just Battista's, Ricardo's , Il Fornaio and some of the Buffets like the Champagne brunch at Mandalay bay. Do you think I can get away with just wearing dress shorts and a golf shirt to these establishments? Can't wait.

I hear ya- leaving in two weeks as well and can't seem to focus on anything else! :D

Can't speak for any of the other places that you mentioned, but Il Fornaio is definitely casual. We went there for dinner on a Friday night and asked about the dress code - they said it was casual so what you described would be fine.

If you know when you want to eat, you might want to make reservations if you feel it might be crowded i.e. Friday/Saturday night. You don't have to, but it was nice to check-in at the hostess station, be seated almost immediately and not have to wait in line - I think when we went there was about 15 people waiting in line.

Good to know I am not the only obsessive planner.

Check out my written itinerary for our trip which begins this Friday...
