My other "local" casino is Potawatomi in Milwaukee.

First off, you must begin any discussion about Potawatomi and the "smoke" factor must be addressed. The air cleaning/filtering system is brutal and even during a weeknight (when I go) it can be very, very smoky. I can only imagine a Friday or Saturday night. Like Ho-Chunk Casino in the Wisconsin Dells, both of these casinos must invest in a better air filtration system.

On the positive side after returning this summer to Potawatomi after years away, I will say that the match play/mailed comps for a Craps player like me have come a lot quicker than they have for Rivers Casino in Des Plaines. The casino is relatively clean. The only restaurant I have tried is Ri Yu and their Chinese/Japanese fusion is top notch and can be very crowded at times. I have even taken it to go, it is that good.

Now onto the Craps......according to a pit boss there, they had the "Fire Bet" removed from all their tables earlier this year due to "lack of people playing it" (huh)? They still have the A/T/S at fair odds 34-1 and 175-1.

My complaint is that during a week night, they have 6 craps tables all in one area and maybe only 2 or 3 are open. Also for no rhyme or reason, I still can not predict what nights for certain will have $5.00 craps. When I arrive the first thing I do is check out the craps area and see if I can play $5.00 or be forced to play $10.00. The Milwaukee Brewers play close by so I thought maybe on game nights the limits would be higher, but that is not the case. The last 2 Thursday nights I was there, they only had $10.00 tables and the last two Tuesday nights, they had $5.00 tables, so maybe I am figuring out a pattern...lol

The Craps dealer staff could be for the most part the most unfriendly I have ever dealt with. Most of the staff seems to be 20's and 30's and seem to be in "la la land" most of the time. Very little conversation, which is fine, but when I say thanks or "have a good one" a reply is usually nice. In turn this is probably the place I have easily tipped the dealers the least at. Not all are unfriendly, but the majority are clearly there to just collect a paycheck.

I have had some good craps runs here but with the limited tables open it can be hard sometimes to find some space and breathe a bit without being wedged together at a table.

I just hope that at some point they are consistent on which weeknights have $5.00 craps and to have at least one more table open. Feel free to comment.........

Do they play "real" craps, or "card craps" like they do in California Indian casinos?

    Real live dice.

The minimums do seem to be frustratingly random, though you can be confident of a $5 table(s) weekdays. Weekends you're looking at $10 and up.

Poto is my local casino, too. Not a fan, don't play craps, but they took most/all 25 cent decent pay VP machines out. I would like to spend a lot more time there, but have been driven away especially with the awful air in there. Now I save my money to play in Vegas. :woohoo:

Very random especially on weekday nights....that is what is frustrating. Also the number of tables open too seems very random

I will be staying at Ho-Chunk Casino in the Wisconsin Dells in 2 1/2 weeks. I am excited that they now have craps. Anyone have any recent feedback on Ho-Chunk?

As I stated earlier the Potawatomi craps crews are mostly unfriendly and non-personable.

I hope the Ho-Chunk crew is better. Looking forward to the trip to the Dells.

I like the Pot, its an easy drive from chicago and they comp well. I agree about the smokey nature of the place. But I never noticed it in the original casino, Those are some high ceilings in there. But the add on section, near the central bar, gets a little smelly.

But it is a great property, decent rooms and easy comps. The casino is very large as well. Huge by Chicagoland standards.

I popped in at the Ho Chunk in WI Dells last year. I like the place, the casino is smaller and the buffet is horrible. And I mean horrible. Hardly any selections and what was out had to be comfort food the locals eat. Like sausage chunks floating in a thick brown gravy. But the layout is easy and I like the fake mountain setting in the middle of the action. If "Wisconsin" is a theme, they nailed it!

Make sure you hand your card over if you are playing table games. You keep your earned points, but they give you a target bonus now. 2 hours gets you a food slip to eat with. And 4 hours gives you a super cheap room for the night. You play bigger, and those comps get better as well.

You can Chunk Hos on one of two $5 tables, 10x odds. They have the ATS (34- and 175-one, I believe), though the horn bets pay 'for' rather than 'to.'

Go on game day -- there are TVs above the box.

And since I'm a charge-everything guy, this caution: it's cash-only for beer, even at the nearby kiosk.

Thanks Calder for the info. Do they have $5.00 craps even at night during the week? Two weeks from now, my wife and I will be at Ho Chunk for 2 nights and plan to get in plenty of Craps!

I am assuming the ATS bonus is $1.00 chip minimum........

One buck minimum on the bonus.

I've never seen a minimum higher than $5 there, though my visits are usually limited to daylight hours. I'd be surprised if you caught tens.

I will be at Ho Chunk on Sunday night the 12th and Monday the 13th. We usually end our nights there with some gambling.

So from your earlier message they have 3 craps tables? You ever see them crowded?

I was down there Oct 12 and it was kind of a mess with a lot of remodeling. It was in middle of the day on a Thursday with a REMAX real estate conference going on at the time so a little crowded. I got on a $10 BJ table with decent rules. I did not look to see if they even had a craps table open.

$10 table at Ho-Chunk for blackjack? Even on weekends they would always have $5.00 tables galore!

I stopped in and saw 2, $5 craps games on a Saturday around 4pm. They were full.

I was at Potawatomi last Wednesday from 4-6:30pm (before the World Series Game 7) and they had two $5.00 Craps tables as well.

It seems Thursday nights is the night when they are almost always at $10.00 minimums. Both tables were about 3/4 full.

Did well after I moved from a very cold table with most players playing the "dark side". Moved to table 2 near the "computerized roulette" and walked away about $70.00 ahead.
