it has to be a rule if casinos want you wearing one - if not there will be LOTS of "That Person" - and they'd be in the right if the casinos just 'recommend' a mask... this is something one would have to consider before they go - if it is NOT a rule are you OK with many (or even just one person) not wearing a mask? if not then don't go.

This is making me nervous. And the Wynn plan is, for me, too much. I sorta get it but I can't imagine flying in and staying there. Im not sure I want to share my health status with the hotel and the SNHD. There are gonna be a bunch of folks getting forcibly quarantined in LV for 14 days longer than they planned on being there.

then you are doing the right thing - if it was required anyone not wanting to wear one should also stay home...

I think the main reason Vegas is just 'suggesting' it is that there are more than a few who would not vacation that way - local casinos across the country are for the most part not vacation destinations, they're more of a 'night out' kind of thing... is one right and one wrong? I have an opinion but I'll stay neutral as much as I can here! :ssst:

I would hope there's not a "bunch of folks" getting quarantined. At least now we know that you won't be left out on the street with your luggage, but that there are 10 non-casino hotels that will put you up if you need to quarantine.

I'm hopeful that people won't travel if they feel they might have symptoms of COVID. If you got infected in Vegas, it would take 5-14 days for symptoms to show and hopefully you would be home by then, and isolating from people at home to not spread it further.

Masks is a complicated subject, mostly because somehow we managed to politicize them in the middle of global pandemic. There are people who feel they are making some kind of statement by not wearing them. I hope they are the ones reading the COVID articles I post, but probably not. I've seen too much disinformation about masks here, even from people who should know what they are talking about. I try to remove as much of that as I see. Mostly what I hope to avoid is the back and forth between people here who feel strongly about wearing them and the others who feel strongly about not wearing them. Neither one of you is going to convince the other and it's just going to result in other people piling on and a giant mess for my poor overworked moderators and myself to clean up. So please..... let's not do that. :) And if you've told us in 10 threads how you feel about mask wearing, you probably don't need to post it in threads 11, 12 and 13 too.

I am waiting to see what people report back. Some properties have said they are "strongly encouraging" guests to wear masks. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but I expect that people who have chosen not to wear masks for whatever reason are going to be approached a bunch of times by some well-meaning employee who offers them a mask or wants to share how to wear one, per the training they get from the casino. I would hope people would be kind and courteous while they try to do their job. But I expect it will be a difficult time for many employees. Please try to be kind and tip if you can.

Indoors in close contact with other people is where you are most likely to get exposed. If everyone is wearing a mask, that cuts the risk to a certain level that is not insignificant. I hope that people will do what is necessary to protect themselves, but I guess you can't save everyone from themselves.

I would also encourage people who are going and are concerned about the risks to be sure to pay attention to your surroundings and if you're uncomfortable, move or just walk away and take a break in your room or outside. If too many people get on the elevator with you, get off at the next floor and wait. If someone sits next to you at a blackjack table without a mask and that makes you uncomfortable, just move. It's probably going to be on you to be sure you are taking the proper precautions.

Like they tell you on the airplane, you have to help yourself before you help your seat mate. Put your mask on first, then worry about others. :)

IMO from what we have dealt with masks are to prevent those with COViD to not spread germs through coughing or sneezing. That being said it does help protect you in some degree. I’m front line worker how has to work without PPE for first few weeks as my agency was without enough. I’m concerned for those who have pre existing conditions and they SHOULD Not travel. Those of us who are not high risk should not be forced to wear mask. This is my opinion, I just can’t call a vacation walking around with a mask on my face. I don’t wear one now, but sanitize my hands regularly. Hopefully masks are optional for my late July trip or I may cancel.

I hope not too. And I think we all agree that we hope no one flies while feeling any symptoms! I visited my mom today and mentioned I needed a good mask. She disappears in the house and comes back with a couple surgical masks, she ordered 50 last week and they just came in. I say thanks but I'm looking for one of those 95 masks b/c I'm going on the plane to vegas. She goes back in the house and brings me one. She flew in February and a friend gave it to her but she didn't use it. Then I lament that I can't find any wipes, you can guess where that ended. Good job, ma!
Anyway, I read this article a couple days ago and then I read that Wynn and the SNHD are planning on sharing positive test results... Will the SNHD be as vigilant and proactive as the ICHD? Do we want them to be? Rhetorical questions only. We don't know but I thought it could happen in LV too.

just booked a downtown trip for 6/7-10!

saw all the news today and decided to pounce on it to make good use of my SW canceled flight vouchers and three free nights at the Cal.

my last day in LV was 3/17 when everything was shut down, thought it would be cool to see the reopening as well. definitely bringing my Clorox wipes and face mask again. hoping the pool is open!

Jeez, that is so sorry to hear. Some families have really been devastated by this virus and cannot feel enough sympathy for them.

I really wanna go and just relax and unwind but I'm scared of coming home with the virus and giving it to my parents, Who are older it would just be selfish of me to go I care to much about them Vegas will always be there "hopefully" it can wait. My urge to go is great my not that great.

Each to their own but Vegas to me is not sitting chatting to a bartender wearing a mask or wiping my seats and machine down with anti-bacterial wipes day after day. I’m sure the casinos with have some novel ideas and I really hope they crack it and keep people safe but when alcohol is involved it can all go out of the window.

It just wouldn’t be the same to me without the jam packed casinos, buffets, meeting new people from across the pond so it will be a while for me as some family back home need protecting and wouldn’t feel safe going to see our vulnerable relatives.

Ok, things are starting to shape up for me.
I'm scheduled to arrive June 11 for 5 nights, hotel hopping downtown.
    We'll see.
I hope all of my points and comps that I have hoarded are still in the bank.

If everybody would follow the rules it would be sooooo nice. I live here and even though only go to the store when absolutely has to be.......what I see makes me sad and prepare for the next wave. I do understand that casino workers want their job back but not everybody is crazy about working under these conditions. If tourists not follow the rules.....Lord help us.

But when you add alcohol to the mix.....well I just can't see this Vegas reopening working out at all.

Maybe it's just me but I fully expect when happy hour starts, the masks will be mostly off for the night. I'd probably react the same after a number of drinks.

I voted for returning when there is a vaccine. As much as I've enjoyed Vegas, a holiday at a location close to home sounds far more appealing right now. A week at a cabin with a fishing rod and some good books would be far more relaxing right now than traveling to Vegas. There is also the consideration of medical care if I got sick in a country other than my own.

For that reason alone, I don't have plans to go to Vegas or anywhere out of country anytime soon.

Sybgal - I am so very sorry to hear your hubby passed away...my apologies if you posted something about that and I missed it. 3 deaths in one family to the virus is pretty shocking. May I ask, were they older, existing conditions or some other reason? Even at 65, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly everything in our lives can change in a very short period of time.
