hi, we are booked at plaza for 6 nights next week and wondering if the pool would even be do able in the blazing july heat. Is there any shade at all in july? we were there in april and liked the pool area just fine but july may be different.
i was just there. there actually is some shadier areas closer to the south tower. otherwise you are just bacon in a frying pan. They have a sign that says no outside food and drinks but there is just one guy there working who looked wholly disinterested, i think he was reading a magazine. i guess he hands out towels.
I love the Plaza pool. That is really the only reason I ever stay there. Last month it was between 105 and 110 every day, and I spent all day at the pool. Eddie is right, there is always shade at the end by the South Tower. Later in the afternoon, there is shade along the tennis courts as well. There seems to almost always be a breeze up there as well that helps. If there is no breeze, it can be uncomfortable if you dont like heat. I do, so it never bothers me.
Yes, very little shade and walking on the astroturf up there is similar, I imagine, to walking directly on the sun. that being said, the water in the pool is wet, chairs are easy to come by and the view is pretty cool. I asked the pool attendant, they are working on getting some unbrellas, and we brought in our own drinks and pizza from downstairs, they had no problem with it.
What a waste of space the pool area is. With pool space downtown so limited (just ask the GN), the Plaza could be something really special if the entire pool area was upgraded. Surprised they did not do that with the remodel.
It's supposedly in the plans, more likely next summer. But since they reopened last August and are trying to re-establish a foothold downtown, this would have been the summer to do it IMHO.
If you are looking for a quiet pool area, not crowded, and a very relaxed vibe....the plaza pool is for you. Otherwise, its a dead fish sizziling in the blazing Vegas sun.
The Plaza pool is not only open, but hot, and crowded yesterday afternoon. There are about 40 lounge chairs, all were full with another 20-30 people in the pool. A lot more kids than I have seen at the Plaza before but still a lot of room.
