Took advantage of VMB only offer to try new luxe rooms. I have already seen pix and videos posted so this is my personal view.
Stayed one night Wednesday August 21st. Arrived little before noon, no line, asked if early checkin was a problem --not at all. Took less than 5 minutes to checkin I was given Luxe room on 19th floor staring directly down the roof of Fremont. Noise does not bother me in Vegas, if you are sensitive there are disposable ear plugs in night stand. You will hear the band playing on Fremont. The room is a basic std 4star in size. It has Alexa available for a variety of tasks, internet info, some house services, etc. very nice roomy bath/shower. Pod type coffee maker, nice toiletries, room safe, and more round out the amenities. The only issue I had was hot water. When I first arrived I tried the shower, barely lukewarm after fifteen minutes. Called the front desk to report it left the room til late that night, no change. Called again next morning they told me maintenance had fixed the issue I told them check again

    Overall very pleasant experience,

Thanks Gary I will be back

Thanks for the review! We arrive Friday night and also have the Luxe room booked (not on the VMB offer) and can’t wait!

Now that I have few minutes I would like to comment further on The Plaza in general. More than anything else in Vegas I enjoy sitting at the bar playing video poker and drinking. When I first started coming downtown 10-15 years ago every casino offered at least one bar that fit the bill. Over time it seems the options were worse every visit. Full pay machines started disappearing, comps for VP cut, drink comps tightened.

Plaza is bucking that trend. The Omaha Bar and the Sports Book Bar both offer multi fullpay games. They both comp decent top shelf liquor and craft beers. There is no visible meter or having to play a certain amount to get that first drink. The bartenders are friendly and very attentive. It is the kind of bar where your third drink is already in front of you as you sip the last of your second. They also have live music at the Omaha. The noise level is such that one can have a conversation without shouting. Plaza is my new favorite bartop in Vegas. One small detail, please bring back the glassware, I hate good liquor in plastic cups (what is this ....a frat house).

The casino smells better is roomier and well lit. Great job hope the improvements continue... til next time

I agree with your plaza assessments. One more thing about those plastic cups I noticed, not only are you drinking out of a plastic cup but they were refilling them without even rinsing. I was drinking tap beer by the way.

Ugh. The plastic cups bother me more than they should.

I'm literally drinking boxed wine out of a plastic wine glass as we speak. But still, the glasses at the Plaza bother me every time. As does the fact that the beers come in the same tiny plastic glass as the mixed drinks. Some days I miss AC and $.25 9/6 Jacks with giant draft beers at Borgata's B Bar.

Many, many years ago....The Plaza was my Vegas home
Things deteriorated and MSS became home for many, many years.
Looks like The Cycle is coming full circle -

checked into my Luxe room at the Plaza a few hours ago, on the 18th floor facing the Water Authority building overlooking the Garage Mahal construction. first impression was the hotel, hallways, and room are very clean. I like the layout of the room, I would say my only complaint is a lack of lighting near the door, feels like a dark corner of the room. I did enjoy walking into my room and the first thing I did was say "Alexa, play Slayer" and my request was met.

12:30am and the construction crew is going to work. heard some churning and yelling when i was winding down in my room and out my window I see generator lights and a group of workers around a cement truck. they were quieter than the train, I'll give them that.

I am a long time member of the board, but mostly just a lurker who reads and values others' opinions. I did choose to utilize my membership to take advantage of the Luxe room offer in late August (20-23). My plans were already set for another hotel downtown (I always stay downtown), but decided to switch when I saw the offer. I contacted Gary by email and received a pretty quick response. He set me up quickly and I looked forward to experiencing the new rooms. I have stayed everywhere downtown and really have no extreme loyalty to any hotel. I must admit that I have probably stayed at the Plaza more than most other places in the past. On the morning of the 20th, I arrived a bit earlier than normal check in time (about 9) and went to the desk to inquire if it was possible to check in early. A young lady told me there was nothing available, but to check back later. I left my bag at the bell desk and went to do a little playing and walking. I am one of those persistent people who probably drive the check in staff crazy and I ventured back at about 11. I was greeted by the same young lady who smiled and told me nothing was yet available. I was finally able to get checked in about 1pm. I tell this long story because it reinforces my belief that the Plaza has really changed in the recent past. My greatest complaint about the Plaza in the past was whenever I used to go to the check in desk I got the impression the previous staff did not want to be there and were quite surly and gruff. I witnessed the young ladies there now always smiling and trying to accommodate guests instead of trying to run them off. Maybe it was just my impression, but it seemed personnel throughout the casino did not take themselves so seriously as in the past. They smiled and generally made me feel welcome.
Though I did not meet Gary, I did request to talk to someone in hotel management to thank them and tell them of my positive impressions. He was appreciative and thanked me for visiting.
Now for my room impressions...The first thing that struck me as I got off the elevator was the brightness and colorfulness of the hallways. I had seen the pics and videos, but they do not do justice to the live look. I am a guy and stuff like that isn't real high on my list of importance, but it was noticeable to me. I really thought the room was nice. Again, as a guy the most important thing to me is a good shower and the new ones are so much better than the old small tub. The bathroom area seems so much more spacious and easy to move around in. In the middle of August I had no issues with the AC and was comfortable the whole time. They are a much nicer place to stay.
New rooms are nice, but I think the greatest change in the Plaza is attitude. The first noticeable change I think started to occur when folks like Curt and now Gary have taken an active role in dealing with VMB members and showing an inclination to listen to us and the things we feel are relevant. Our views and spreading the word I think has put the Plaza in a much more positive light and I believe it is well deserved. I honestly cannot understand why more establishments have not followed the lead and seen the value of interacting with potential patrons on here. To me, the Plaza has definitely showed an upward trend.

Maybe I should have looked into staying at the Plaza this time around. I got my normal free 4 nights at the Fremont (Oct 11-15) with a little food credit and free money but was kind of thinking of staying somewhere else, as my opinion of the Fremont is dropping. I tried staying at the Plaza two years ago, but they were full for a jazz festival, so I stayed at the Fremont like I have for the last 10 years. Maybe I should talk to a host when I am out there next month as I really like what the Plaza is doing and where they are going.

I have an upcoming stay at the Plaza, sadly for only 1 night. We easily made the switch from the Cal to the Plaza and are not sorry at all! Can't wait to check out the Luxe room! The Hub just goes crzay over the Pop up Pizza wings! This trip's bucket list is Plaza Bingo!

I stayed in a new Luxe room on 26th Aug thanks to the generous VMB offer from Curt which was then subsequently arranged by @PlazaPoker Gary. I had already arranged my accommodation for later in my holiday otherwise I may have been tempted to spend the rest of my week at The Plaza.
Check in was straightforward, although the lady checking us in was quite surly until she realised that we were guests of Gary and then her attitude seemed to improve.
A phone message was left for Gary but he was off duty.
The first impression was mixed. The corridors have been totally renovated and the decor is nice, but the carpet needed cleaning. Ok, this is an issue with housekeeping rather than the room itself, but it was the first impression.
    IMG_6897.jpg IMG_6898.jpg
Inside, the room is all new and the addition of a fridge is a big bonus. However, there were marks on the frame of the bathroom door and hairs on the chair, again a sign that housekeeping wasn't quite all it should've been.
    IMG_6904.jpg IMG_6905.jpg
The beds were comfortable and I had no problem with noise, although the room was facing away from FSE. My travelling companion had an issue with privacy in relation to the opaque sliding door in the bathroom and would've preferred a solid, fully closing door and although it didn't overly bother me I could see her point. The shower is an improvement over the previous shower/bath combination. I think the casino is certainly one of the better ones downtown and the food options are solid.
I tried to get hold of Gary the next day to thank him for setting the room up and to let him know my opinion. I spoke to Ray(?) in Guest Services but Gary was off duty again. Overall I would be happy to stay at The Plaza again, although as we then moved to the DTG for the rest of the week I have to say that it is now up against some very stiff competition.

I remember going to the Plaza years ago and having one of those cheap prime rib dinners. It wasn't the best but well worth the price $3 or 4. We went on the casino and I remember it being dark and smoky so we didn't stick around. But for some reason I always liked the building. I'm glad to read all the positive changes. Im thinking of a trip (too early to even say planning) I am putting the Plaza on my list of possible places to stay. I haven't heard anything about the craps tables there. If anyone can give any info it will be appreciated. Thanks
