Sent a "cold call" email to one of the hosts listed on the Plaza site and got a reply today. She said she would comp us up front for the 4 nights in October.

Food comps will be based on play.

Probably going to burn a bridge, but we do like 777, Redwood & 2nd St Grill, and we are thrifty, so I'm going to double book at MSS to just get the Gold Card for dining and the airport limo, but we are going to stay at Plaza and not worry about giving MSS playing time/coin-in. Maybe gamble there Sat & Sun mornings when we do like Jose tending bar.

Advanced plan is to just wander Fremont St and hit the other casinos, kind of hit and run at each. Eat at Triple George and a few other places. Might even try the lard french fries at Heart Attack Grill.

That's it. Done thinking about the trip until after we come back from Seattle in August.

I'm curious, why the change, Joe?

If you go to Triple George, Mob Bar next door is a great place for an after dinner drink.

One low trip won't burn a host bridge. They know it happens sometimes. So you can get them twice before they demote you. :)

I guess major reason is personnel changes at Boar's Bar, where we spend 99% of our gambling time. Lots of changes there in the last couple of years.

I never thought I was chasing comps, but in all honesty, maybe I was. My wife would suggest going other places downtown and I would say, but we're getting points at Boyd.

We just need a change of pace. Thinking of also renting a car and getting back to some of the places we enjoyed when we lived in LV.
Suncoast, Bob Taylor, Bagel Cafe etc.

Still thinking about the car rental because current prices at Dollar are $218 for a 4 night stay, mid-size.

    Hi Joe,

We will also be there in October and we always rent a car.

    FYI -
Just keep checking prices, they fluctuate a lot. Also, if you check Priceline, there are some deals to be had there. In fact, I'm going to use Priceline to book our car this time, but will wait until we get closer to the date.

Hope you enjoy the Plaza and can't wait to hear your report.

Car prices always come down closer to the date. Right now, my four day rental of a full size is (w/ tax) $172, and I also reserved a minivan for (w/ tax) $238. But as soon as I see something a nickel cheaper, I make the new reservation.

    I do love trip planning!

    See you there, ValarieJo?

Yes, we have eaten at Finz several times and the place that is connected to it, can't recall the name offhand. We always took out of town visitors to sit outside and watch the foot traffic on Fremont. I've got to look if they are still in Restaurant.com.
EDIT, doesn't look like they are anymore.

Hey Joe: We were wondering the same thing – why is Joe even thinking about someplace other than MSS? If you want points AND a change of pace, why not stay and play at other Boyd/Coast properties? Obviously, that's what we do, although we're thinking about throwing some business at Station properties just to see if we'll collect additional offers.

I stayed in the South Tower in March. It was all updated and very nice. Me and my Fiancee had no problems and thought the entire property was very very nice.

    The North Tower is older.

Is the north tower the one with the elevators at the back of the casino ?

That's why I'm a little confused in this thread. Back of the casino, towards parking garage, Greyhound etc is south. We double booked last month and were in the elevators/rooms right around the corner from check-in and that is north. And that room was completely redone and very nice, but that would be north tower, at least geographically. MSS is north, Strip is south.

Are the bathrooms bigger in the south tower?

Are we just talking the age of the tower? Which one was built first, because the room was just fine.

The North Tower is by the registration desk. It was the original tower when the Union Plaza opened. The bathrooms, where the commode is, are small in both towers.
