I never had asthma before. But a lifetime of living as a child where everyone smoked and coming from a period of our history where smoking was allowed EVERYWHERE, I have contracted it.

Any little hint of ANY kind of smoke will trigger my asthma.

But I agree with the above poster. Vegas IS smoking, hookers, alcohol, drugs, and debauchery. I love Vegas and I take it just the way it is and always was.

Almost every smoker (cigar or cigarette) will be courteous to their neighbor before lighting up. Some will refrain simply for the benefit of the doubt.

To those who disdain this habit, too bad. Vegas is freedom. One of the very few (if only) places where the smokers can smoke and kill themselves in peace.:wink2:

I was told by someone in Bally's they were doing a trial in PH of banning cigars and would see how it worked out. It's the dealers I feel sorry for. They mostly have a fan now in front of them to blow the smoke away. I don't understand why if they have lots of tables they can't make one or two of them non smoking. I actually hate the perfume more than the smoke even though I'm a non smoker! I tolerate the smoke but don't like it. I always try and find a slot or table where no one is smoking, not easy.

I must admit that as a non-smoker, smoking (either cigarettes or cigars) on the casino floor is a non-issue for me. If I am next to someone who is smoking, and it is bothering me, I simply move to another part of the casino. It doesn't hurt that it usually corresponds to a poor performance on the machine or table so it may be a subtle hint from up above :) In my 10+ trips to Vegas I have maybe had to do this five times. I am much more in favor of a smoking ban in the hotel rooms and restaurants (where I am trying to sleep or enjoy my meal). On the casino floor, I really don't care.

My exact feelings. There is nothing PC about nasty cigar stench.

As to penis size... just another silly thing like hand size....

But, well, doesn't a cigar appear to be something of a phallic symbol?

Don't sure how walking around vs sitting down at a machine matters.

Either ban smoking or don't imo. There are way more cigarette smokers as there are cigars. All second hand smoke is bad for you, the smell does not matter one bit health wise.

I am very courteous when I smoke. Always careful where my smoke goes, I ask before I light up, I ask if it is bothering people if it to does I stop.

This in the middle of the road ban is dumb and this ban is even dumber, so if I move machines I have to stop?

If this is true then they've lost my business. One of my favorite joints on the strip but there's not a day in Vegas I go without a stick or two. What a shame.

In 1991, Silver City had a smoke free casino, that didn't last long. What Vegas doesn't want is lost revenue on something that's been a fixture in Vegas since the beginning of mankind. I don't smoke and never have smoked, but i'm in their territory, a territory that is well known from first timers to long timers that smoking, at least in the Las Vegas casinos, will always be allowed.
You don't just stumble into Vegas and are shocked that smoking is still allowed. People GO to Vegas, if you don't want smoke making your eyes water then don't go into casinos.
There are plenty of other things to do in Vegas besides hitting the casinos.

There doesn't seem to be much middle ground with respect to folks' opinions on cigars.

I'm firmly in the "hate 'em" camp and I've walked away from many a machine or table when a cigar smoker sat down near me. Sometimes I just find another machine/table in the same casino. Sometimes I leave. Is the revenue they lose from people like me more or less than the revenue they'd lose from cigar smokers going elsewhere?

This should be interesting to follow. If I were a betting man (oh wait...:rolleyes2:), I'd guess the policy doesn't catch on.

Now that this country has made peace with Cuba, I am sure they will be upset over banning their no. 1 export product.

At one of the West Virginia Casinos, the local county banned smoking in buildings so the Casino Racetrack had to build an addition with giant fans, special heating units to counter act the open doors and other venting provisions. The smoking pavillion is always packed with slot players and table games more so than the non smoking indoor areas. I could see Vegas converting to smoking pavillions in the future.

Blech. i wish cosmo would ban them too. I was doing great playing in the high limit room there once and suffering terribly because the a-hole next to me insisted on a comp cigar. I'm sure he enjoyed it as much as I hated it.

The attitude towards smoking has changed a lot in 25 years.

True, but what's the difference between cigar smoke and cigarette smoke? Most people in casinos who smoke, smoke cigarettes (or weed), very few, at least from what i have seen over the years in Vegas, smoke cigars.
And while we're at it, let's ban the CW's at the Cromwell........they're smokin' hot!! They're also hazardous to your health........:licklips:

I was a smoker for over 20 years. In all my hotel stays I have always requested a non-smoking room and I have never smoked inside my own home. I liked to smoke but I never appreciated sleeping in a smoky room. I guess I wasn't the only one.

Was about to write something similar but noticed you had already done it. I would never get a smoking room either, not a big fan of indoor smoking anyway so I wouldn't even mind that much if they banned it on the casino floor. This probably sounds bizarre to non smokers but as a smoker I don't like 2nd hand smoke either. If I'm playing slots and someone smokes next to me, I actually have to light up as well to tolerate the smoke itself. The worst situation is if you're in a car and someone smokes, it's awful. It's very different to smoke a cigarette than breath the smoke itself, if that makes any sense.

I would like to say thank you to those of you (cigars & cigarettes both) that are polite enough to ask once you have sat down next to me. I normally will respond that as long as it's in your other hand and if you would please keep it low I'm good to go. I have had responses of 'oh no problem I can wait a bit yet' (thank you!) or they will do exactly as I ask and then it's not really noticeable. I had another fellow that moved from the one side of me to the other so he was at the end of the row and then wrapped his arm around the end of the aisle to keep it away from me. I will not sit down next to anyone smoking, and it annoys me when someone decides to sit down & then decide to hold their cigarette up right next to me. It happens more frequently at my local casino than it ever does in Vegas. But thank you again to those who are aware of others & ask and attempt to make it work for BOTH parties involved.

    About an hour.

Most guys I see smoking cigars appear to be huge ass phonies.

    This guy thinks so, too!
