Totally agree. Even a mid-range strip property would be better to impress than the DT places mentioned. You could stay close to the nice places and just visit. On the other hand if the chick is a "cheap date" she may not mind.

Depends on the lady. I stayed mid strip first time in a nice suite. We visited downtown one evening and she asked if we could stay there next trip. We both like the old Vegas feel. Binion's back then looked like it was decorated with red velvet and that was our first impression.

We always get a car so shows, dinners and such are still within reach.

I wouldn't recommend the GG for a first time visitor - unless you are going to be in the remodeled room. That one was nice but with an odd layout for the bathroom facilities.

4Q had comfy beds, but the wallpaper was peeling off of the wall. Did not matter one bit to us, and it probably is not like that in all of the rooms.

Fremont worked out well this trip - right in the middle of things like the 4Q and when eating at Tony Romas and charging to your room, they take 40% off of the bill at checkout.

I loved DT as my "first" visit to Vegas!

    Just some of my thoughts.....

I think you would.enjoy the Plaza Hotel & Casino. The rates are great and the rooms have been remodeled. Feel free to message me and I can give more details. Check out the website too.

If you are taking a lady friend and definitely want to stay downtown then I would advise the GN. Get a nice Rush Tower room. Plenty of good restaurants there, with a pretty good lineup of live music in the Rush Lounge. If you stay downtown the GN is a great place to stay, IMHO. Have fun. :peace:

Well, I've booked my trip. We're going to be staying at the 4Queens.
Now for the next question, what places are open 24/7 near there to eat within walking distance?

Places Downtown Open 24 hours a day

Nothing downtown is very far away.... everything is an easy walking distance. Here are some right off the top of my head. Starting at the far end of Fremont there is El Cortez’ Cafe Cortez, The D’s Grille and also their McDonald’s. The Magnolia Club at 4 Queens, Next is Binion’s Cafe, Golden Gate’s Dupars. California’s Market Street Cafe, Main Street’s Triple 7 Restaurant and Microwbrewery. I understand the Grand’s Deli, is open 24/7 also... although I have not eaten there yet. Just in case you overeat Walgreen's is open 24/7.

Agree with most of the above.

    1. Magnolia's is reliable with almost everything.
    2. Dupar's has great pancakes
    3. Triple 7 at Main Street has, IMHO, the best BBQ bacon cheesburger anywhere. Have them put garlic on the fries (they will do this for no added charge) and you won't be sorry. Just make sure you're lady at least tries them . The side salads are large and the appetizers have never disappointed. Yes, I do have a favorite place.

Thanks for all the info y'all.

I'm really looking forward to going back. And, of course I'm going to get us a limo for the airport ride. Start her off in style.

Several years ago, I stayed at 4 Queens and they had a really good room service... you might inquire if it is still available. There's something so decadent about being able to have a delightful breakfast in your room... or a scrumtious dessert late at night after a hard day at the tables/slots! Makes me wish I was there! Hope your friend has a delightful time downtown!

If you really want to make an impression on her while staying downtown then I would do the Golden Nugget. But of the choices you provided I would do Four Queens.

There are a number of ways to make an impression. Show her that you're a savvy Las Vegas insider by taking one of the buses from the airport for $2 each. Take the money you saved on the limo to the tables. How the bus option is received will depend on the girl.

I'm already a step a head of ya. :) I did a search on that the other day, and they still have room service. Most of it is just until midnight, but hey, I'll take it.

Yeah, I've thought about that. But, there's just something about having someone there waiting with my name on it when we get off the plane, I've never had that before either. Plus, I wanted to start it off with a bang. I'm going to get Presidential Limo, with the champagne, and rose. And, get to 4Queens via the strip.

    I've never had that either.

When I pick people up at the airport limos are my standard joke. I tell them, "Well, it looks like Caesars forgot to send a limo for you, so you might as well ride along with me."
