I'm scheduled to stay at Paris from 4/30-5/3 in a Burgundy Room. I just checked online this morning and they have a Red Room on a high floor for quite a bit less than what I booked for... but I think the Burgundy rooms have been renovated. Anyone have a recommendation on whether I should just keep what I have or take the cheaper room?? (savings is about $150 total for the 4 nights) Today is the last day I can cancel my existing reservation with no charges.

Burgundy rooms are renovated as you stated. We stayed in one last November and it was crisp and clean. The "renovations" appear to be all new carpet, furntiure, paint, wallpaper and decorations, so a bit more than a lot of properties give to their "remodeled" rooms.

I have not been in a red room but a friend of mine who stayed a few months ago in a red room said they were pretty worn. The biggest difference he noted was the bathrooms where the burgundy rooms have all new fixtures and tubs/showers whereas some red rooms are pretty rough around the edges there.

I can't tell you what to do as I don't know your personal preferences. I'd say a lot depends on your budget and how much you value the quality of the room in which you stay. If that $150 can be spent elsewhere and you aren't particular about your room, don't bother with the Burgundy. Otherwise I'd say the Burgundy is probably a good choice.

Another option is to book the Red and try the $20 trick to a Burgundy. Last November when we stayed in a BUrgundy the burgundy rooms were less prevalent, and our comp offer had been for a red. So we booked the Red and the $20 trick got us into a Burgundy room. It isn't a guarantee, but you could give it a shot.

For $150 Iess I would stick with the Red. I've never had an issue with a Red room. Saw two Burgundy ones at beginning of April & they were fine - but I would be happy in the Red.

Yeah, I have stayed in both. I'd save the money and take the red room. Burgundy isn't too much better, really.

I'm glad to read that the red rooms are okay. I have one booked for June, and was concerned that I should have spent extra for the burgundy.
