Always wonder how the casino's rate you, is it the same as say BJ or is it different because of the ties ?

I think it's about the same. The house edge is higher but the game is slower as far as hands per hour. So I think those even out about the same as bj, but I have no proof of that.

On multiple occasions I've heard pit bosses say that the rating for Pai Gow is much much lower than BJ because it's so much slower.

The amount of theo they give you credit for is probably based on fewer hands than some other games. Could be only 25 - 35 hands per hour.

The amount they quote you as your $ rating per hand shouldn't be affected by that, and the HA on each hand isn't affected by that, or the fact that there's a lot of pushes.

Other others have said, Cromwell and Gold Coast consistently have the lowest mins I've seen... $10 almost all the time. Gold Coast dealers seemed to be the most willing to help new players, but my assumption is this was because their tables were generally slower.

I would have taken the grand too. I think years ago someone wanted to put money on my hands, playing from the sidelines. I believe the casino told him no on that too. I wouldn't have cared if it were up to me. Not that long ago I was playing next to a guy who was putting maybe $50+ on the hand, $25 or so on the bonus. He was getting crappy hands but not betting the PaiGow spot. I told him I'd play a dollar for him on the PaiGow and split any wins with him but he gave me a dirty look in response. He never put a dollar on the PaiGow bet & kept getting crappy PaiGow hands that would have paid.

Sorry if this is hijacking the thread but I'm looking to get in to Pai Gow Poker too,not so much a replacement for BJ but rather something to play as a change of pace.
Plenty of information online about how to play and the strategies that should be used but I'd appreciate any suggestions from members on some online programs or iOS apps that I can use to practice.
I'm currently using An iOS app from Royal Online Casino which seems ok but would love to hear if there are better alternatives
    Thanks in advance.

I use hideaway Pai Gow poker on iOS, seems to work well, not sure if it's any different than your current app.

Itchy, not really a ton of strategy involved. I find only a few instances where u have decisions to make. Whether or not to split pairs seem to be the most frequent. Splitting big pairs isn't difficult but when u have two middle or low pairs, what u can put on your two card hand usually determines what u do. Sometimes u also have a decision to make if u have a straight or flush. With a flush for example, you may also have two low pairs and may just play the flush with a low two card hand just to protect ur hand. It's a fun game, especially with a outgoing group at the table.

I third the Cromwell for Pai Gow Poker...no problems finding a $15 table there, and surprisingly the Monte Carlo has $10 and $15 tables, but the dealers can be hit or miss there

My favorite place to play is Harrahs. They usually have 5 tables open when they are busy. Four of them are $15 and one is $10. I have really enjoyed their dealers, friendly and outgoing.

My favorite place for pai gow is mirage. They have several different tables sometimes $10and sometimes $15. The dealers were also very friendly and helpful. Downtown my favorite place for pai gow is golden nugget. They have two $15 non commission tables that are usually pretty busy.

I too enjoy both the mirage and the golden nugget. In November very friendly dealers at mirage. I like that commission free game at GN too.

Always play the bonus (Wife and I play $5 envy). The house has a huge advantage but you never know when someone is going to have a monster hand. Last trip to Flamingo a dealer was telling us how a Father and Son were on a Vegas trip together and were playing PaiGow. One of them hit a 7-card SF for $40K, the other got $5K envy bonus.

You can sit there and push over and over again, the only way to make real money is with a big bonus. I got a RF once (missed 7 card by 1) for $750, and my wife got 5 aces twice now paying $2K each.

I'm new to pai gow, as well. Been reading here about some very nice-paying hands. At what point are W-2Gs issued?
