Our awful stay in the Cal East Tower over Thanksgiving.

I hope to get around to a TR but I wanted to post a heads up.
We checked in at Cal on Thanksgiving at 1:30 PM and are told there are no suites available in the West Tower, but we can have suite in the East Tower. Our host was supposed to have arranged all this. It's not like we are checking in at 11 PM. It's 1:30!! And since we do the majority of our gambling at MSS, the West Tower is most convenient.

See the suite in 602 and it is big and includes a wet bar and huge TV. It was all downhill from there. The music from FSE was horribly loud and went on until 1 AM. I was told they have installed new speakers to make it louder. It seemed to be coming from the stage on 1st Street.

Called the desk Friday morning to change towers and nothing is open in the West Tower. Well crap. I go to take a shower and meet my wife and the shower doesn't have hot water. Fu*k, back on the phone and they will send somebody up. Take out the DND, which we don't do for a 4 night stay.

Friday night we get back to the room and FSE is going full blast, plus apparently the Circa crew had Thanksgiving Day off, but they are now back it pre-dawn. Loud construction noise all night long!! It is fricking impossible to sleep and I never have had a problem at MSS facing the freeway and the tracks. Saturday morning and still nothing open in the West Tower.

Sunday wake up to find no WiFi in the room. Another call, another remove the DND sign and will send somebody up. BTW, when the free, in-room WiFi worked, it was never better then .4 MBPS down.

Monday, because of the issues with the Boeing Max our SWA non-stop option back to Milwaukee is either 6:30 AM or 6 PM. So Sunday night we try and get to bed at 10 PM to get to the airport at 5 AM. No fricking way. Music until 1 AM. Bang, Bang from Circa all night.

Horrible experience and we are just exhausted. And we lost! Hopefully a full TR coming but first I have to bang out a complaint to our host and the GM.

Sorry to hear, sounds very similar to my experience two Christmas's ago. One thing after another, but I did complain and was well taken care of. You easily exceed me on what you gamble so I'm sure they'll bend over backwards for you.

So sorry to hear about your terrible stay at the Cal East Tower.:(

Upon your recommendation, and several other recommendations, I booked the MSS, standard 2 queen room, high floor, low numbered room, with a walk in shower. Couldn't get any comps at the Cal, even though we got 4 nights comped at MSS. Sounds like, it is karma, that the Cal wouldn't comp me, but MSS did. :)

Anyway, look forward to your trip report.:D And I hope you and the Mrs. had some good things happen to you while in Vegas.

Look at it this way, now you need another excuse to go back. Soon. LOL

Sorry to hear about your East Tower noise. Bands until 1:00am and Circa banging...horrible. I'm scheduled next month, hopefully in the West Tower. As for a losing trip, I feel your pain. My last trip was a doozie of big losses with very little play to show for it. But, like you, I had some winning trips prior. I believe your trip prior you could do no wrong and came home up a bunch. Variance.

Joe, we had a similar experience but not as much noise. First night all night (8th floor) construction with the back up warning beeps for concrete...after that nothing. It was a relief. But never experienced the FSE noise. One room removed from the stairwell towards the street. It could of been forgettable but was only one night. sucks they couldn’t relocate you.

You have got to be kidding about new speakers to make it louder out there! Incredible. I know I'm old, but eardrum bursting is the same decibel level at any age. You would think with all of the chatter about the noise levels downtown that somebody would take notice.

I've been where you were. It's not fun to be jacked around...especially if you have earned a certain status with your host/player's club. Sometimes the worst thing is that there's nothing else they can do for you. You're probably RFB with a Suite...so now what??? If only all of it is the host's fault then you might have a reason to change, but in my experience, many times, the host has no control of what the hotel side decides to do.

I'm sorry it was such a shitty trip. I hope you can regroup and have a much better one next time!

Noise from Fremont St. is one of the reasons why I've been reluctant in staying downtown and if they installed louder speakers, that's just making things worse. At least the noise from the Circa construction will eventually cease when it's completed. I'd better take note to not get a room in the east town, if I decided to stay at the Cal. LOL

Needless to say, I would fire your host for not following through with your arrangements and ruining your trip.

Man the play you put in I'd think they would do better. Sorry for the bad experience. I hope your next one turns out better in the room.

I’m surprised you didn’t request a suite at MSS.

Last month I noticed they were pouring concrete at night. What I found concerning was the construction cranes was positioned over the Cal numerous times. I guess it’s just my paranoia with some recently published construction accidents making the news.

Sorry to hear about your dismal stay.

Now that I no longer stay on comp offers at B-Conned, and the fact I refuse to stay in the East Tower after just looking at these rooms on a previous checkin (went back downstairs and waited for a room to be ready in the West Tower), I will not return to The Cal until construction is over and I can book a room guaranteeing a West Tower room.

I am staying one week at Sahara (on their no resort fee room sale), another at Westgate (on The Trooper all in $49.99 rate including Room, Tax and Resort Fee), the rest in Summerlin on the upcoming trip. Will plan the same for my February/March return trip.

This is the first trip in over a year at least a portion will not be spent staying downtown (though I will go dowtown for significant portions due to the accessibility from Sahara / Westgate and also Summerlin (via the WAX).

Sometimes I think life is just a rodeo....

Sorry about the bad luck all the way around!
    Fire the host.
The Circa noise should be done next year or later this year.
The Fremont Street bands is somewhat puzzling to me.
Downtown attracts the value players and they (we) may want to crash at midnight or earlier especially us East Coasters.
The thumping in the room is definitely a negative.

Damn Joe, sorry to hear that. We were fortunate enough to have a west tower room the six nights we were there. The first three nights we were on the east side of the west tower (17th floor) so I did hear the construction noise at night, and they are working 24/7 as far as I can tell! I don't remember hearing Fremont Street noise though. The second three nights we were there we did have west tower west facing 18th floor.

It was good to see you Thanksgiving evening at the bar. I thought you were doing pretty good but I guess you guys ended up tanking. Truthfully, we were also in the midst of tanking ourselves. I could not hit anything our last two days, especially at BHB.

Always got a suite at MSS but changed when we saw the remodel rooms in the West Tower. Just love a walk in shower and the large vanity plus a second makeup vanity. I need my lipstick.

Nittany1, I am not sure I agree with you about the Circa noise ending. Yes, I think the construction noise will end but I am wondering about increased street noise and any other noise Circa produces. I don't remember from the renderings exactly where the main entrance is going to be but it looked like it might be right across from the Cal on Ogden.
