    My Trip Report

First trip report for me. Just got back from WCC basketball tournament at the Orleans.

After we got to airport for departing Southwest flight, we decided to try and use my Southwest Priority card to upgrade our seating. For $40 each, we moved up B30 area to A10 area, worked and a great.start. Chase has already reimbursed the charges.

My neighbor and I decided to surprise the wives with late Valentine's present by booking a limo from Presidential at the Vegas airport. When the driver, Carey, got to baggage claim with his message pad, the wives were over at Starbucks close by the claim area. He walked over and stood close to them until they turned around saw their names on his pad. Total surprise, worked out great.

Walked outdoors and the limo was a super stretch instead of the SUV limo I booked, but was just as good or better. Then had the champagne drive to the Orleans. Wives were totally impressed with what we did, and I am sure that our "thank you" would have been a lot different 30 years ago.

Got to Check in and all went well, all 7 nights were comped for 2 rooms. The neighbors each had $100 in food comps and $100 in free play, and my wife and I had a total of $180 in food comps and $150 in free play, so ate very well.

The Bconnected food comp system changed starting this month, and went to a voucher system that is printed out at a kiosk. Most vouchers printed at $50 and one at $30 with each one having to be used up or remaining lost. Also found out after we ate that Friday's does not accept the vouchers. All other "sit down" places are supposed to take them.

Gambling was up and down as usual. I hit a three close to $200 pots on slots, and smaller ones that kept me playing. I think I lost about $500 in 6 days, not bad for me. Wife won a pot close to $900, one about $500, and quite a few in the $100 - $200 range, but she bets higher than i do. I earned about 1500 tier credits and my wife about 7000.

Basketball games were great until the finals when both Gonzaga teams lost. Next up ncaa for both, will have to watch on tv though.

Yesterday, Presidential arrived on time, and the driver, Big Al, showed up with the SUV limo. Great ride back to airport. Even though flight was completely booked we asked again for upgrade and got them, moving us up from C16 area to A12 area. Chase should reimburse these too. Flight was on time and all went well. Also, put a 20 in a .25 poker machine waiting to board and hit 4oak jacks, which was a bonus.

All in all, great trip, and God willing and the creek don't rise, will go back next year for same tournament.

We ate at Friday's a couple times, first time when we thought we could use our vouchers, we all had their steak and lobster special. The steaks were all cooked the way we ordered them and the lobster was good also. I thought the steaks were slightly smaller than last year, but maybe just me. Second time went in for their app specials and shared them. All were pretty good: 4 cheeseburger sliders, onion rings, whiskey glazed chicken strips, and mozzarella sticks. All tasted good and came to about $25 for all. I had planned on going back for their full rack of ribs special, but didn't because they weren't accepting the vouchers. Did pay for all by charging to room, which was comped on back end.

Ate at the Medley Buffet a couple of times. Our first time in there since the remodel a couple years ago. Was actually pleased with the selection during their breakfast and their lunch periods. Never went there for dinner. Both times we went in, the food tasted good and did not look like it had been sitting for hours (or days). Too much variety to mention.

I think we ate at Ondori 3 times. Their food is really good, both taste wise and appearance. Prices are reasonable too, with their small plate specials $5 - $7, and the shareable plates in the $15 range. We had chicken fried rice, beef lo main, cashew chicken, Mongolian beef, and sweet and sour pork, and all were very good.

We wanted to eat at Bailiwick also, but they don't open until 4pm, and we had ball games to watch. I don't know why they aren't open during lunch hour. There was a line of about 50 people waiting to get in at 4.

We ended up not using all the food comps we had because we ended up eating a lot during ball games and because the others don't like to eat as much as I do. Couldn't get them to the Prime Rib Loft or the steak house. I could have went by myself but don't like to eat alone in those places.

By the end of our trip though, we all used up most all our points one way or another because probably not able to get back within 6 months. We did get all our points reinstated when we arrived, even though our neighbors hadn't been there since March a year ago.

I'm going to an Orleans arena event in the fall. Any reports on the food in the arena itself?

I actually can't say much about the venues this year, but in the past, there was a Mexican place with pretty good food and a couple bbq places. Prices are arena prices for most part.

Now, the reason why I can't review the venues, is because we ended up eating in the suites upstairs with tickets to games up there.

Congrats on the good times and thank you for the report, @Jake13!

I've found The Orleans to be my favorite off-strip casino. Relaxed vibe for sure!

Thanks again for the TR! :D

@Jake13 Nice report! Just a FYI, I also have the SWA Priority Card but they only reimburse up to 4 times per year for the upgrade, so don't get burned.

Thanks Joe, yeah I know about the 4 upgrades, and we used them all up. We never know if or when we will fly again and if SW or not, so used them up. Wife still has 50K points on Delta, and Frontier flys direct to vegas from here, so depending on timing and pricing can use those airlines and build up my SW points.

Still have my $75 flight credit to use since stupid me, forgot when booking last trip, and when I tried to change it prices had jumped $40 in 30 minutes, and never came down. Booked our neighbors flights for them and used his credit which worked out good for them, which kicked my brain into gear, but too late.

Current spots are a couple years old. Remodeled and renamed the buffet, the 24 hr. cafe, and the steakhouse.
Ondori Japenese/Chinese restaurant is where old Mexican restaurant was, and Bailiwick replaced Brendans Irish Pub and the sushi spot. All the remodeling really helped the appearance of the place.

I think your Chase card automatically gives you your $75 credit.
Also you don’t need to use your points, you can always go to slot club and cash them out before you leave. We always use the points to be used for car rental and or parking at the airport.
We used Presidental maybe 10 years ago and were very impressed.
Thanks for posting your trip report.

Yeah, it does that if you pay with credit card and not points. I booked our flight with points, then tried to change mine to one way on points and return on credit card, but flight price had jumped already.
Thanks on tip about cashing out points, may do that next time. Our neighbors and us save and sell aluminum cans during the year for our parking and Vegas transportation. Sold $115 worth for this trip, so had to chip in a bit more.

Dang, I didn’t know there was that there was money to be made in that anymore. I remember 20 years ago a lot of people doing but I don’t see it being done anymore. Good for you.

Jake, you use the vouchers for buffets or points? I will be there in few days and i wanted to make sure you still get the 40% discount if you use points. Was hoping to use up my points at Big Al’s and buffet.

We used the food credit vouchers for the buffet and everywhere else we could. We didn't use any points for food.

As far as the 40% off for points, I can't answer that, sorry. I would ask either at the restaurants themselves or at the Bconnected booth. I still don't know why they can't post which places do this on their website or at the individuals places.

If you are going to be there on a tuesday, check out if you are eligible for their 2 for tuesday free buffets.
