Despite the continued drop, Las Vegas’ rate of upside-down homeowners was third-highest among the metro areas listed in the report, behind Virginia Beach, Va., at 28.3 percent and Jacksonville, Fla., at 27 percent.

INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS): Proposes a change that would lower the reporting rules for casino customer winnings.
The suggested move is to reduce the trigger from the current $1,200 to $600 on jackpots from slot machines, video poker, and bingo. The present amount from Keno, that you have the annoying wait to fill out the IRS forms is $1,500, which under the IRS proposal will also be reduced to $600. The problem is that when someone hits a jackpot, the machine locks up until IRS forms are filled out and the game is reset. The IRS set a deadline of June 2nd for the casino industry to respond to the proposed action. We are all opposed to the change. The official IRS proposal is at:
KABOB CORNER: Serving Mediterranean, Indian, Pakistani cuisine has moved from 507 East Fremont Street to 730 East Flamingo Rd. between Swenson Street and Paradise Road. Telephone: (702) 384-7722.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA: KTNV reports that the first medical marijuana dispensary in Las Vegas is staffed and ready for business, but there is no marijuana to sell yet.
Euphoria Wellness is located on Jones Blvd. near Robindale Road, in the southwest part of Las Vegas. They had a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony last week. They've been ready for business for months, but have no marijuana to sell because the crop has not been approved by the State of Nevada. The wait for state approval on pot crops could be anywhere from weeks to months. Medical marijuana became legal in Nevada back in 2000.
A reader reports that he applied for a Nevada Medical Marijuana Card, with the proper Application Form and Doctor's Certificate of his need for pain relief. He sent all that in June, 2014 and he has not received even an acknowledgement of receipt. Since the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) is in charge of issuing his Nevada Medical Marijuana Card, he could be waiting years instead of months. In the meantime the reader suffers!

NHL HOCKEY IN LAS VEGAS: The season ticket drive has now reached over 9,000 deposits on season tickets. The goal was 10,000 and the final tally looks like 11,000 or 12,000.
The Las Vegas metropolitan area population has now topped more than two million, which is roughly on par with NHL cities like Columbus and exceeds that of Raleigh, Nashville and Buffalo. Consequently, NHL hockey will be coming to Las Vegas and will be the first professional sports team to be in Nevada. The team will be playing in the new$375 million arena MGM Resorts is building behind the Monte Carlo and New York-New York casinos. Opening in the spring of 2016, the Las Vegas NHL professional hockey team franchise will play their 41 home games in the arena, which would hold 17,500 seats for hockey. The start looks like the October,2016 hockey season. The official announcement that Las Vegas has been awarded a franchise could come during the NHL Awards show on June 24th. Two-thirds of the NHL's current ownership must approve an expansion franchise.
The first name I have heard for the team is the Las Vegas Black Aces. More info. at: www.VegasWantsHockey.com

WET 'N' WILD: The water park at 7055 Ft. Apache Road, in the northwest section of Las Vegas, started a new season. A new ride is the world’s first slideboarding attraction. It’s a slide that integrates (video)-gaming skill. It’s basically like “Guitar Hero,” the way you have to play it when you see those red or green notes. You’ll be in a slide on the raft. There’ll be buttons, and you have to push them according to the light that comes on while you’re on the path. There’ll be different levels, and the better your score, the more your level goes up. You’ll be able to check scores online. The concept has not been done anywhere else in the world.

Sometime in 2015= Tropicana Shops will open located on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. It will be accessible from the mezzanine level of the Tropicana casino, the street and neighboring properties via a pedestrian bridge. It will also have a food court.

Around the end of 2015= Opening of new bike lanes on Main Street, downtown, between Bonneville Avenue and north of U.S. 95.
Also trees and bushes will be planted alongside of the bike path. The $13.9 million project is being funded partly by the gasoline tax you pay every time you fill up your car with gas, City of Las Vegas general funds and city of Las Vegas room tax.
Phase 2, which is scheduled to commence also in late 2015, will extend these improvements from Bonneville Avenue to Las Vegas Boulevard and will also convert Main and Commerce Streets to complementary one-way thoroughfares.

Sometime in 2016= MGM Resorts will open its version of New York city's Madison Square Park, in front of their Monte Carlo and New York-New York hotels, into an outdoor plaza with 75 mature trees, grass, benches, 50 foot tall tulip-like shade structures and two 100-foot-long water walls at the entrance. The name of the project is "The Park" and some of the features are:
    1. Sake Rok, serving Japanese food and sushi, with a waitstaff who will also double as entertainers. The emcee is a six-foot man dressed in traditional Geisha attire.
    2. Shake Shack, an upscale burger stand that has become a New York City favorite. Replacing the closed Sporting House. (already open).

"The Park" is intended to lead into a new 22,000-seat, $375 million, arena MGM plans to build behind the two casinos and will open in the spring of 2016. It looks likely that a Las Vegas NHL professional hockey team franchise will play their 41 home games in the arena, which would hold 17,500 seats for hockey. Parking in the arena will be a problem as none is provided in the arena plans. Adjacent casino garages, at the Aria and New York-New York, will have to do and you'll have to walk and maybe you will even have to pay for parking.

Both projects have started construction and is estimated to cost $100 million. A picture dated March 20th, 2014 of the huge arena under construction is at:

You've all heard of the Air Force's ultra-high-security, super-secret base in Nevada, known simply as "Area 51"?
Well, late one afternoon, the Air Force, out at Area 51, were very surprised to see a Cessna landing at their "secret" base. They immediately impounded the aircraft and hauled the pilot into an interrogation room. The pilot's story was that he took off from Las Vegas, got lost, and spotted the Base just as he was about to run out of fuel. The Air Force started a full FBI background check on the pilot and held him overnight during the investigation.
By the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn't a spy. They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying "you-did-not-see-a-base" briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison, told him Las Vegas was that-a-way on such-and-such a runway, and sent him on his way.
The next day, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna showed up again. Once again, the MP's surrounded the plane ... only this time there were two people in the plane.
The same pilot jumped out and said, "Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!"=====================================================

CAESARS PALACE: Elton John walked off the stage twice during a recent concert. He threw a Hissy Fit and came back next night.

That would make me very unhappy if I'd been at one of his shows when he walked out. Tickets aren't cheap and even if comped arranging my evening around a special event, it would be a major disappointment.
