You can use points from one place at other....at least you could at dupars.... I did
If a nicer casino is being built it would make sense for a nightclub to be built there. Give the kiddos a reason not to leave the place. I think he'll make a great casino there. He had me won over when I can use FP and food comps without staying at the D or GG. I wish everyone did that.
I think the new resort will be a lot like Harrah's on the strip, fancy for DT w/ all the amenities but not too upscale
just have a killer sports book & sports bar with just passable VP and I will be happy
tone down the music.
put in some competitive pay vp
a good buffet
AND THEY WILL COME.
Kiddos at a nightclub? You mean like a Kid's Quest? They can't leave until their parents come pick them up....it's a rule.
I do agree that using free play and food credit without a hotel stay is nice. I know as long as they offer some, I'll go regardless of whether I stay there or not.
The 50+ crowd wouldn't fit the long term business of the casino. Remember this place needs 20+ years to turn a profit. They can't look at alienating the millennials. I fully expect this to be like a strip property.
Why would anybody think that Derek Stevens reads this board?
And even if he did, why would he reply to this? All that would do is invite flames, complaints, challenges, unwelcome suggestions and stupid questions regarding what he's doing downtown. I think he has better things to do with his time.
For me, it was the other way around...after Dupars closed, I could use my meal-credits from GG at the D's diner.
To be honest, it never occurred to me to try and use my D credits at Dupars...
A while back, I did ask a host (who worked at both properties) about this & he told me that they were completely separate programs.
Odd... it was the cashier at dupars that asked if I had a d card so she could check to cover my balance.
Derek personally? Maybe not. But he's proven to be more responsive to his customers so why not? If this group was as willing to kiss up to him as some of the bloggers he definitely would.
Also, I've seen lots of things that have me convinced that someone from most of the casino properties keep an eye on the more popular Vegas discussion sites. He may not read this but maybe someone else in his organization just might.
I know for a fact that at least one decent sized casino company uses an automated web crawler to capture information on their company, properties, etc. They pick up reviews, complaints, and so on.
I suspect this sort of thing is common.
how about this one Derek... loosen up those tight-ass machines!
AND SEND ME SOME FREE ROOM OFFERS
I think you'd be surprised. As a businessman, he has a lot more important things to be doing than going on websites like VMB. But you have to remember, this is essentially the internet's superpower in Vegas nerds, and you'd have to be ignorant to not know this exists. If you know this exists, you know people talk about Vegas resorts. If you know people talk about Vegas resorts, they're going to be saying things both good and bad. If they're going to be saying things both good and bad, it behooves you to at least be aware of those things.
That's just speaking to GG/The D at a corporate level, by the way. Many celebrities and well-known people have reputation defender companies on retainer to find out things that are being said of them online. It's possible that Derek Stevens is doing just that, especially because of how much his image matters as someone who is essentially the mayor of downtown Las Vegas.
So, is Derek poking around on various threads and chuckling at the comments people are making about how loud the music is? It's unlikely. Are eyes seeing threads like these who will alert Derek in cases where there's something out of the ordinary coming up? The odds are just a little better.
I liked having places like Mermaids and Bayou BUT I greatly prefer the 18 Fremont Project over the strip club and the pharmacy that was planned to replace the LVC casino.
The trajectory of that block was no bueno prior to Derek Stevens stepping in. The alternate timeline of Mermaids staying also came with a ton of bad baggage.
Besides, a new from the ground up casino on Fremont is exciting. It's something to look forward to and Binions, Fremont, and 4 Queens are still as vintage and dumpy (I say that lovingly) as they have ever been.
It's not nearly as bad as some of the old joints that have been lost on the strip in the past few years or the rampant detheming to the "Urban Generic" motif.
Yes, they're 2 separate programs, but they can look up each other at each property. So, if you tell your host both your D and GG number, they can give you comps basted on your total play. And, currently, you can use the food credit from GG over at The D. But, you can't mix, and match the free play. Or use a free room from the GG to get one at The D. But, a host might be able to move it over, just not the reservation line.
As for what the new casino is going to me. I've said on here before, that I think he needs to make it a higher tier place. That'll compete with both GN, and the strip locations. Put in a nice pool, a club, and a nice place to eat, and it'll be set. I'd be more than happy if they played the "old" rock from the 70's-90's. And, if I don't have to scream at the craps table so the dealer can hear me, all the better.
I'm hoping that after the new place is built, they'll just unify all of the different clubs. That'd make it easier on everyone I would think.
I think classy was reflected in our visits to the Desert Inn. It had a feel that apparently wasn't successful on the strip in the end but just felt unique to us. It was high class to us at a time Vegas was changing from the family model back to sin city (we are low class so evaluate as you will). The bungalows, the golf course, the pool area. It mixed old with new.
I'd hope there would be an attempt to tie old Vegas with the new as best he can. You can always phase out the past as the old farts with money pass away (tongue in cheek).
My plan right now is to be cremated when I die & have my ashes tossed into Lake Mead... then, in some small, sub-molecular way, I will be a part of every cocktail served over ice at every table game in Vegas, forever!
OK, I'm having my drinks straight up from now on.
Good riddance to both mermaids and la bayou, both those places were dumps, I'm hoping for something classy
Worry not... it'll never actually happen!
