If you are a slot player of any caliber, you will probably put that much money through in a short period of time. You can either put your own cash into the machine along with the cash for smaller wins along the way, or put in those tickets, or download the slot play. Many folks can do 20-30k of coin in easily.

A long time ago Circus Circus had a rotating stand with a fancy car to be won. The sounds from the machines stopped even though you could still play. A few machines over a young woman hit the three golden sevens. Her mother arrived and tried to convince her to take the cash. The next day there was a sign on the car that said "similar to the car that can be won". She took the car.

My motorcycle came from a drawing. You had to have entry tickets in the barrel then they would draw an entry out each hour on Sat afternoons - had to be present to have your name put into final bucket. (100 names). However you also could only have one entry in the final bucket and many people had their name drawn on the Sat afternoons multiple times. So it was about a 1 in 58 chance when we got to the final night which was held during an outdoor 60's music concert. 5 names up on stage, one received motorcyle. Others received $1000. I ended up with the last selection (even though I was the 2nd name drawn). I received the bike. I remember one of the ex casino employees running up to the stage & grabbing me because she was so happy I won. As I was walking off the stage my daughter was calling my cell saying 'WHAT THE H*LL IS GOING ON??? S's mom just called her & said you won a motorcycle!!!' My husband just sat in the audience shaking his head and saying 'I don't want that ugly trike'.

Sticker value on the Harley Trike was around 32,500 (probably one of the few vehicles that could sell for close to sticker new lol). I had to register it with the State of Wisconsin & pay sales tax. The next morning the dealer resold it for me for 28,000. (Maybe 27,500?). So I paid around $1800 immediately. Then I sent in $8500 between State & Federal estimated tax payments. I believe in the long run I felt I received around 18,000 in pocket for the 32,500 trike. If I had kept the trike it would have been very cheap in that respect. The money went for year 4 of college at UW Madison for daughter.

Sorry that got long-winded. It ended up being a 1099-MISC as no slot or gaming was involved in the drawing event. That meant I couldn't offset against any gambling losses. I did however talk to an accountant and explained everything & I changed the claim on taxes to FMV (cloer to the amount I received) vs. sticker value. There was no cash option offered at all. (They have drawings in that respect quite often that are some cash & some jewelry gift certificates for $5000, $3000 Home improvement to a local dealer etc.) Those can be a problem if the person has no interest in that prize.

I remember one person winning a car, the name was something to do with Frog...Frogger1, Frog1, something along those lines.

As I remember the story it was a BMW-Z convertible sport coupe, won from the Mirage ?

He took the car and drove it home. My understanding from the story, at least in Nevada, the car in the display is the car you win. The casino disassembles the bank of slots at night and rolls it out. No offer of credit, no choice of color, it is that car.

No idea if that is correct, but that is what I recall from eight or so years ago. He was a regular on that board that sort of imploded, that is how I ended up here. Thanks again Sonya

when the big prize is a car or grand vacation package, I will always choose the cash option.
I hope to be faced with that decision in someday.

A bookmaker over here in Europe has a promotion running to win a Porsche 911. You have to be at least once a day on their site. It has been running since 2008 and the last time I checked there were still 20 odd people still in the competition.

Guessing who lives the longest will win it.

Depends on the person, but the cash option is usually much less than you'd get by reselling the car. For sure it's "work", but usually a few thousand in rewards for those efforts. The casinos know people would rather have cash, and take it into consideration when coming up with the low ball cash "equivalent". I've even heard of winners making a deal with the car dealer to buy it back and still netting more than the casino cash offer.

Of course, if there is a freeplay offer that's even better, as others have mentioned, due to the tax benefits. Taking the low ball cash offer would be my last choice.

    re: Freeplay and my thinking.

Let's say you generally do 10,000 points at CET over a four day trip. That is $50,000 coin in. Why not just put 50,000 of freeplay into the machine instead?

A "Second" means they are dealing the second to the top card from the deck, not the top like they are supposed to. Being dealt seconds is a huge red flag that you are playing a crooked game. This is usually done because they know what the top card is and they want to keep it for themselves, i.e. it's an ace and it's miraculously going to be dealt to the dealer instead of you.

Bingo! Caught the dude red handed. Dead give away was the shiny nail polish. I told him he should work harder at dealing seconds because he sucked at it. I picked up my chips and left, never to set foot in The Thunderbird again.

Thanks for the explanation, Breeze and Rumor. Kind of like what this guy is doing, right?

My question is... how did he (or the Thunderbird) get away with it? I've always been under the impression that the punishments for cheating are so severe that there simply isn't any incentive for casinos or dealers to engage in such behaviour.
