Regardless oft the name I usually have it with just beef and gravy on the bread. The mashed potatoes are served alongside and normally covered by gravy too.

    I AM HUNGRY.

I remember eating open faced roast beef sandwiches growing up. I am sure the bread was just away to stretch the dollar.

We still have open face beef sandwiches the day after I make a roast. The bread is to soak up the delicious gravy. You typically get canned gravy in diners :(

We were craving something similar last night. I make a killer mushroom gravy and then grill turkey burgers ... fuck the cans. Terri'd had a tough couple of days so it was the perfect comfort food. Not your average diner offering but we had grilled artichokes on the side and a most bueno SRH Pinot Noir.

I Guess it has been a while since we last made a beef roast and had leftovers at home..typically the leftovers leave when the boys do.

Jerry's Nugget has hot turkey and hot beef in their dinner, complete with that great old school ambiance.

We know who to come to for wine pairings! I would have gone to a Riesling with turkey burgers.

Mom would make these when I was a kid and I never understood why they called it a sandwich, open faced sandwich.

For that reason alone I didnt like them for years. lol

    of course love it now.
