Trips to Las Vegas

Drove out to LV on Friday afternoon. Note to everyone from So. Cal. The 215 is a mess. There's a lot of construction and the traffic was rather nighmarish. Also, the 15 between Primm and Sloan is under some kind of construction and the 70 mph speed limit is not happening.

Stayed at NYNY this time. They sent me an offer for a a rate of $119/night Fri and Sat and $69 on Sun. I was rather road weary when I arrived at 8pm. Stood on a slow moving check in line but met a lovely couple from the UK who were on their honeymoon (she was from Liverpool, he from Ireland).

I got up to the room and didn't even unpack. I just ran right back to the casino. I kept a couple of hundred dollars real active on different machines and at about 5:30 am went to sleep. The sad part is, I was supposed to pick up my friend at 10am at her father's house, in Summerlin, and have breakfast with them. If you do the math, that's about 2 hours of sleep. Oh well, it's Vegas.

Picked up Helene (H), one of my best buddies from high school who I haven't seen in approximately 28 years, and got her checked in at the hotel. We had a very large room, I'd estimate about 500 square feet. Nice and comfortable but the bathroom is kind of small.

Went over to Southcoast for a while but didn't do very well. After a light lunch we headed back to NYNY and I had a little nap.

We had 8pm reservations at Lucky Cheng's. That's an experience. First of all, the food was very good. You get three courses for $40 per person. The servers are all drag queens and most, I thought, were very pretty. Our server, Cherish, told me that only one of them had the operation. Some of them wore pretty skimpy outfits and I'd swear they had the operation because, well, certain telltale signs weren't there. I asked Cherish about that and she told me it (the missing equipment) was taped up.

If you are with a big group of girls and you want to have dinner and drinks and get rowdy, this is a great place. From what I understand, it is very popular with Bachelorette parties. There was one large bachelorette party (or "drunken whores" as the mistress of ceremonies, Ginger "I'm 6'2, 225 pounds and I can mess you up" Grant, called them).

It was Saturday night and it wasn't very crowded---surprising. A lot of the stuff they do is lewd but the D.W.'s seemed to have a good time. I'm thinking that, if the place is really packed, it should be a hoot and a half. If you're a prude, don't go. If you're a straight man, you might not be comfortable being groped by another man----even if he is pretty and has good legs.

The one thing for which I was not prepared: tips. This place is billed as a drag queen cabaret and karaoke. Only two of the performers actually sang karaoke. The rest lip synced. That was it. You are expected to tip them $1 for their efforts and they make you stuff the bills in their bras or wherever else you want :eek2 . That's a little creepy. Some of those breasts were bigger than mine and I came by mine honestly. Also, I have no real skill set for stuffing money into someone else's bra. I had the money for the tips but I might have thought twice about going had I known. Oh well, good fun and good food.

Went to the Wynn after the show. I won $1,000 on a nickel slot. This is the first time in 25 total trips to LV that I have won enough to pay for the trip. That was cool.

Next day, just walked up and down the strip. Had breakfast and dinner at America Café in NYNY---both comped from my Friday night play. Ate lunch at a little cafeteria kind of place in Paris (comped from my old Caesar's credit card).

On the way back, stopped at Bellagio so H could see the fountains. We also went to the Patisserie to see the chocolate fountain. I treated myself to one of their gorgeous deserts. I had the one called "Intense." Dark chocolate and mousse. OMG.

We were exhausted when we got back to the hotel but I wanted H to have the steak dinner at EI. When we got there, it was a 45 minute wait. We walked right back out, gassed up the rental so we wouldn't have to do that at 0 dark thirty the next day, and went back to eat at NYNY. That way, we could crawl right up to our room to, theoretically, get to bed early for our 4am wake up call. By the way, that is a painful wake up call.

It was rather uneventful otherwise. Next trip in 27 days.

Thanks for the TR, Lori.
About how much longer does the drive from So Cal take with the construction that is going on?:)

Well, it probably added an hour to my trip. If I can scream through at 75-85mph, I can do it in 4-1/2 hours. I left at approx 1:30 and landed at 8:00 pm. I probably spent an hour or so at Primm so I would say that it added about an hour to my trip. Also, the signage for the transition to the 15 wasn't great. Now, to be honest, this was Friday afternoon so any other day might be better and the construction might not affect the trip at all.

Nice TR, Lori :)

Never heard of Lucky Cheng's but now it's on my list of things to do, thanks for the review. Sounds like you and Helen had a great reunion.

Dear Beach,

If you go, Lucky Cheng's has a $25 off coupon on restaurants.com. We used ours and it worked out well.
