Trips to Las Vegas

My traveling companion is employed by public school and thus bound to the calendar of rigidity and ignorant of change for the better. However, this year it was decided taking classes on Monday and Tuesday with the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving was silly and in some measure of infinite wisdom classes were released the 19th to resume the 28th. So we opted to travel to LV the 19th - 24th due to this change and being able to redeem our SWA points on these dates for free airfare both to and from. The usual Christmas trip was quite expensive in comparison so the choice was made.
I had an offer from MSS for 4 nighs and was told to come by at the conclusion for a 5th night's refund if play was adequate to warrant such. So that was the plan. Lots of VP at Boar's Head Bar; one night at the Redwood for FOS and steak; lots of drinks and a little sportsbook action.
Flight was fine. No delays and arrived on time with bags delivered quickly and once retrieved, down to ground 0 for the WAX. It said 8:19 a.m. on my saved photo of the RTC website but it was updated on 11/16 to 8:31 a.m. which we only discovered after much panic when no bus showed by 8:22. Off with the homies to the Fremont Street stop without incident.
Walked through a somewhat "dead" Fremont Street which was nice but observing some with various drinks in hand at such an early hour made it much more real we had reached the promised land. Check-in was not possible at that hour so we left our bags at the concierge after being "cyberly checked in" to room 401. We were instructed to return at 1:00 p.m. or so to complete the deal and then headed off to the BHB for some VP action. stopped by the kiosk to check my points for level and comps taking a picture for later reference. I do this daily so to verify what they say (they) and what I record. It takes the ? out of whether I have the correct totals with what I observe on the machine counter as we play on the same card for maximum benefit.
It was Saturday and it was game time for college within minutes so we settled in to the sparsely occupied BHB and inserted both bills and player's cards. Wham Bam Thank you Ma'am (and you too RF) as this was my best day at the somewhat mysterious Strict Rules of Parlay.
We watch whatever games are on as we play and start with Bailey's / coffee moving on to Bloody Maries and then the ever fresh and delicious Carlsbad IPA (7.6 %) again as we watch and play. Once one o'clock hits we go back to the desk, get keys, bags, and move up to room 401 for the always fun unpacking / fighting for drawer space / hangars to carry us through the duration. It went much better this time as I had packed some of the wire type hangars we always seem to accrue in massive numbers and used them rather than the wooden ones provided by the hotel. Although treated with the smug look of approval (or disdain) it kept wrassling to a minimum. It turns out a male can make do with a suitcase for a drawer as well IF space is limited. Fortunately space was available and I occupied a drawer in the chest all my own.
We head down to Pizza Rock for some nuriousment as the alcohol has invaded my travelling partner's system to the degree that she feels some "soaking material" is necessary to continue the pursuit in the afternoon. It is happy hour from 3-6 so we take advantage.
For the month of November there was an offer from ? the 16-22nd for 5x on VP and 10x on reels if you brought the mailer. We did and they ponied up. This was quite beneficial as we will note later. Also had 35$ in slot play which was loaded onto my card at the same time we had redeemed the offer for 5x. Is this a great country or what?
We continued after our nutritious intake of protiens and carbs to pursue the ever elusive royalty club back at the BHB. The Carlsbad's were tasting even better than before and the cards were certainly becoming somewhat cooperaative as well. Finally we hit the wall and had to reload. We used points for the meal at 777 (22 $ and change; 13,200 or so) which is rarely done as we usually go by the b-connected desk and ask for a comp. Since we only arrived hours ago we splurged on our credits. At the conclusion of the first day (we opted out of consciousness at
9:30 p.m.) due to rising from the dead at 3:00 a.m. (1:00 vegas time) to catch our 7:00 a.m. flight. I know; nothing like maximizing your stay. But we are old.
That is the end of day one. Exciting no? Pictures will be posted at the conclusion of the trip as I must travel the 7 miles to civilization for adequate internet speed / capacity / accessibility / and whatever else to transfer from my phone. We are but simple folk out on the rural lands without such highly technological amenities so please be patient.
I have results from Strict Rules of Parlay--scratch cards which have to be the most fantastic invention ever made (possibly)--Redwood fare which is also quite possibly the most fantastic redo ever completed--and betting at the Cal sportsbook--and people we met (REAL people)..
Also, I have bad news for the RF and the beautiful Crystal at the BHB. stay tuned......and as usual please ignore any spellings / run-on sentences / or need for more paragraphs.....school's out....

bubbakitty, Those two-day school weeks do seem mighty silly. One year we had a one-day school week before Thanksgiving up here. And then had school end on a Monday the following June. Wisconsin now goes by hours of time rather than number of school days so school districts have all sorts of interesting calendars up here now.

As for unpacking, I usually forfeit the closet and dresser right off the bat! It goes down as a win in my book!

Nice start to your TR. Thanks for sharing!

RICHARD

Sunday morning arrives and it is time to belly up to the bar and figure out the games to make a million-billion bucks on with the NFL. I usually do the parlay cards which give better numbers on the points given / taken but since I didn't do the college games Saturday I have more fodder for the mill and took the dive. I did my teaser cards (2x) and did 5 single games at 20 $ each with one 5 team parlay at 10$ with all five teams. Damn you Tennessee and Arizona. However, thank you Patriots, Cowboys and Lions.
I play so seldom the straight bets I didn't realize you actually had to give up monies on straight bets when you didn't go money line. My Dallas bet was -120 even though I gave 7 points vs. the Ravens..I thought giving the points was what brought it back to even. Hmmm. Even though I won 3 of the 5 straight up bets I didn't like it so I think it is strictly the parlay cards next year as I don't seem long term profitablity in giving up both points and payout (-110 I see; but 120? naw...)
Continued with the same debauchary as the first day with consuming copious amounts of beer and slamming the keys at the BHB.
Had a comp for breakfast (every day except first day and Monday just by asking nice ladies at the b-connected desk) which are easier to get (no line) at night vs. morning. Usual fare there is omlette and fruit with some tasty TUG tossed in for good measure. Water and juice of choice to finish it off.
Today's strict rules of parlay ended with the .75 cents print out which was about 1,055 $ less than the first day's results. Ahhh volatility. But tomorrow would be Monday and breakfast was to be out on the town and Oleg would be back for the fabulous Sun Splash (Bellagio special) for a trip back to the beach air and sand (or somesuch depending on the number you have).

So up and at 'em early on Monday for our trip down to Eat @ 4th and Carson. Usual pancakes for me and we split the always meaty and tasty bacon. Terry ordered cinnamon biscuits with strawberry compote ? (warm) which she said was good but would have to revert to the pancakes next visit. Had water, she had the coffee which is always good and STRONG. We travelled back via the Las Vegas donut shop where we merely dirtied the windows with drool and lip prints. Not today. Dinner tonight was to be at the Redwood so we began our fasting. Fremont Street was beginning to wake up as we made our way back to the Cal and then over to the MSS. I think this was the day I had two straight flushes in the same sitting. It was one of either Monday or Tuesday. I think also alcohol was involved which greatly interfered with my recollections in general. We don't drive in Vegas so inhibitions with alcohol are fairly nonexistant. The trip was going well as far as we had come with minimal losses but certainly wins when given the "free" alcohol and food (not to mention the room accommodations).
Went by the b-connected booth for a voucher for Redwood and was offered 125 $'s which seemed high and said 100 $ would be fine. Wasn't sure we could consume 125 $ without being regretful so I told her if we went over we would just use points to cover. We were swimming in points. Did I have a reservation? No. So she made that too. Not sure we needed one as when we arrived it was 1/2 empty (7:30 p.m.). Even less when we left at 9:00 p.m.
Began with the French Onion Soup (no picture) and it was yummy for the tummy once again. The bread was also great as usual but I still miss the olive oil "dip" they used to offer. The bowl of olives and other things was met with "mmmmmm" by the SO as she devours olives from my Blood Mary as well as her own when at the bar. Which is also good as we are able to continue long into the night not having to stop for a snack as the buffet of olives is often satisfying enough.
I have the 22 oz bone in ribeye (damn!!!) and she had the filet Oscar style--crab or something on top--with baked potatoes as big as your foot but not nearly as odorous. Damn again. The ribeye could be about 18 oz or so and be just fine as that is about the limit to my consumption. However, Jennifer is a cocktail waitress at the MSS who has a dog name Oscar who is 14 years old and half deaf / blind so we arranged for a doggie bag (this time for an actually real doggie) and let her have the leftovers the next day. It was a win-win. Total was 117 $ which 17 $ was covered in points (10,200) and with a 25$ tip we were out of there both happy and proud of our choices.
Arrived back at the MSS only to be told / teased by Jose that a woman (a quite attractive young lady were his words) had come by looking for her "grandpa" (hahaha). Jose knows just enough about the website to get the drift but has no idea of the extent. So he continued the tease for an hour or so about granddaughters and old men and all that and how he understood now what kind of website this was and all that. The wife comes down about an hour into it and sits down at Jody's machine about 3 away from me. As she came by I told her to wait for Jose to come down there and then ask if our granddaughter had been by looking for us this evening. She did and it is the first time I ever saw him turn red and have "that" look of being caught in the crossfire. We all had a good laugh and I could only assume it was Lady Fortuna who was supposed to be at the 4 queens at the time. I sent a p.m. via the board and would try to hook up at a later day / time.
This night went long into it. We hit the bed at 1:00 a.m. after another satisfying gambling stint and with bellies bloated.

So now it is Tuesday; two full days left to survive. Free buffet for breakfast and off to the machines. We are doing fairly well in the investment department and have played a bunch as far as our play is concerned. This is our last free day and must check out tomorrow to check back in for the paid day. If we could remember all that. Terry decided to play away from BHB and go to her new love of the nickles Super Times Pay 3 Play near the craps table and Main Street wall where when seated you can look up and observe those descending / ascending the escalator. She seldom does the latter but that is just for location purposes. Pictures of that foray are all of her (some she forgot to take pictures of) play. She was happy. And you know when momma is happy......She also got red scratch cards instead of green due to less than quarter play. Funny though as she played 1/5 less money at nickles but usually go 1/2 less in scratch card value. AND we saw one of the advertisements at the end of a row of machines with a picture of the winner of 5000 $ via scratch off and it was on a red card (which I thought was not possible due to less than quarters). We stopped, went "wow" and walked on.
We played on, ate lunch about 3:00 or so in the p.m. at 777 with a comp from the desk and with 20 $ in hand had to pony up 3 $ in points (1800) plus tip. Two salads --she had something with shrimp and I had the sirloin steak salad. It was ok. Sometimes you just have to eat things that are supposed to be good for you even though you just want to eat stuff you don't normally consume. Went back to gambling and called it a night about 10:00 p.m. or so as we had been at it most of the day. (those specialty drinks can drain your energy sometimes--not like beer.....) I think we missed Lady Fortuna again today but don't really know for sure. They are all running together by this point of the trip. Tomorrow is our last full day of the trip.

Wednesday begins with the breakfast buffet and plans are to go to the Pizza Rock for happy hour again. I check in and check out and back in for our last day. Stop by the b-connected desk and ask what time to come by to see if we had played enough to get last night comped (refunded as already paid when making the reservation). Before 8 p.m. she says and that sounds easy enough. Look on the board and see a pm from LF and she says she may be around after 3 this afternoon. I hope that for myself each day as well. So we decide to make it 3 for happy hour if she shows. Also hoping Jose is working so he can meet her formally.
We also plan to go over to Sam's Town on the shuttle for an hour or so to check out the paytables at the bars where Ty won a bunch of money on a progressive earlier this year.
Bad news; winchester / stagecoach bar is 8/5 on JOB for 25-50-1.00 and BP is 7/5 at quarter but stagecoach had 8/5 at 50 and 1.00 levels. Upstairs was very small (like tucked away with out 8-10 seats where your mother couldn't find you if you didn't want her to) and smokey in the bar.
Bus ride was fun but I had to take a pic of the wife playing vp on her phone as we paraded along. 5th day and she hadn't had enough? Can't lose too much see said. Can't win anything though either.
Made it back to MSS and saw Crystal and Oleg were still working. Called Crystal over and revealed a picture Royal Flusher had taken of his drink at the bar and his card propped up against it with Crystal in the background. She looked bloated and chubby from the angle or exposure or something because first time I saw it I didn't think he had the right name with the person. She sort of jerked her head like she was woozy and squinted and said something like "Oh my God!!".
I said "He claims to be from Canada; that could be a factor". She went on break. I wondered if I should have not shown it to her for purposes of retaining vanity or self esteem or something but it was too late now. (I would just lay low and let it blow over but if she ever identifies you RF it could be ugly----yeah, I wouldn't let her make ME a drink!!) The next day I asked her to let me take a picture of her to post as well so people could at least identify her without looking for a bloated somewhat non-descript female working the bar (which she certainly is not). She is a sweetheart and makes good alcohol in a glass as well.
Also when we got back to the BHB and met a couple from Canada. Her husband was an EMT who had worked the previous night and they flew out and were on a strict regimine to NOT get hammered the first night. They always do, but not this trip she said. I said wow. Then I noticed the time and told Oleg I wanted one more "special". It was near the end of his shift. He brought it (sunsplash) out to the ooohhhss and awwwwhs of the crowd (lady and husband from Ontario) who immediately ordered one. Oleg left and they went wild with pleasure as the drink met their criteria for getting to the next level (where they usually go but not this trip, not the first night).
Upon further conversation she said she was familiar with the board and had read up on this that and the other. Loved living vicariously through the trip reports and made her fix tolerable until they could come again. I asked her board name and apparently it is LURKER as she is not a member and only visits to read and relay to her husband as to the trials and tribulations uncovered. Her husband is not a LURKER but only an accomplice. They were very nice and quite up to the minute with the information provided via the membership. Hopefully by mentioning her and shaming her for merely LURKING she will join and provide input / insight and other tidbits of knowledge from their travels as well. She knew Lady Fortuna was in town and also was a bit excited when told Joe would be sitting at the end of the bar beginning Thursday (tomorrow), and she was familar with RF and other names. Perhaps she will identify herself in the future. They were staying through Monday the 28th I believe.
At some point they left (I think to avoid falling into the trap of alcohol and descending to the next level) and Jose came on shift. Then came Lady Fortuna and we met and played some VP while exchanging valuable tidbits of each other's trips and gambling oddities we had observed. Jose kept his distance but finally approached to some good guffawing and apologies all around.
We went off to Pizza Rock and had some pizza but I can't remember who had what although I do know I drank water. Back to MSS for some more VP before LF had to excuse herself to get on with business elsewhere and plan for her trip down to Flamingo tomorrow (Thursday). We said our goodbyes and off she went.
She was a very nice lady (and surely a granddaughter to someone) and had very firm hands as when she hit some hand or other she would let out a squeal or shrill laugh and hold up a palm for a high five slap. Ouch! But fun. If you have a chance to meet up with her do not hesitate as you will be the better for it. She was headed down for the big slot pull later in the trip.
We continued playing and finally took up some FOS and San Francisco burger from 777 for late night grub prior to zzzzz's. Again comped from b-connected desk. Also got the room comped at 7:58 p.m. via the hostess Joe is assigned to or vice versa. The one I am not assigned to but prefer was off for a week as she had been dispatched over to Hawaii for a 4 day VIP entertainment / party / binge pleasuring of those Boyd prefers to return often. I like mine best but they all are good.

So we pack, empty the safe of all the daily envelopes and look under the bed, chairs, tables, etc. for far flung objects prior to heading down for final breakfast. Uneventful. Go back upstairs for luggage and head down to BHB for final fling and hopefully a cha-ching. Oleg is working and let's me snap a photo of him with assurances it won't show up on any weird place and indict him in any mischief. I told him no. Only on VMB. So I guess I lied. Anyway.
He tells me the couple from Ontario that was there yesterday had been seen again this morning (it is 8:30 a.m.). Well, half seen. The wife came down and he said it may be a bit early but Sunsplash? Yikes! No, just O.J. She was nursing him and her headache and if they survived maybe one later. Apparently the next level had been visited. All the best laid plans.
Asked for an envelope to leave Joe some SWA drink tickets expiring 31 December and Oleg would be the go between. Had a couple of Bailey's with coffee and played a bit ending up 1.25 ahead. Always good to leave a winner. Had to catch the 10:01 a.m. WAX back for our 12:15 p.m. flight.
Bid Oleg and Crystal goodbye and set off for the return. 4 $'s later and 31 minutes we were checking our bag at SWA ticket counter. Made it home by 6:53 p.m. (4:53 LV time), said hello to the boys rubbing their ears and tummies and climbed into the shower prior to hitting the pillows.
Final tally--70,794 coin in both on one card
297,370 points earned (5x was offered on 4 of 5 days) (297 $ cash or 495 (600 points to the dollar) in food comps
5 free nights room
all food comped except Eat Cafe for breakfast / Pizza Rock happy hour 2x and those meals paid with points though still free
no headaches to speak of which is a win didn't leave anything in the room!!!
came back with 800$ less than we took with us but no royal(s) so about 160 a day A lot of that had to be in tips also but whatever
Flights were with points
Met some good people and the Boyd people are always very friendly in every way
Will post pictures to go with the above in 2 hours or so as I must go to the golf course to do so (we are so spoiled, high today is 58 so no golf....tomorrow 64; guess we will bundle up and play then)
Hope you enjoyed as we certainly did. Any questions will be researched and replied to within a reasonable time frame. Next up the SB so between now and then good luck and have a great Christmas......

Was your room at MSS (401) with the new shower. We had 501(new shower) and was told that all the rooms ending in 01 and 02 on each floor had the tub taken out and replaced by full tub length walk in showers with sliding doors

It was between 178-183$ in scratch cards due to alcohol distortion
