Doing retirement again and happily so....
My traveling companion is employed by public school and thus bound to the calendar of rigidity and ignorant of change for the better. However, this year it was decided taking classes on Monday and Tuesday with the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving was silly and in some measure of infinite wisdom classes were released the 19th to resume the 28th. So we opted to travel to LV the 19th - 24th due to this change and being able to redeem our SWA points on these dates for free airfare both to and from. The usual Christmas trip was quite expensive in comparison so the choice was made.
I had an offer from MSS for 4 nighs and was told to come by at the conclusion for a 5th night's refund if play was adequate to warrant such. So that was the plan. Lots of VP at Boar's Head Bar; one night at the Redwood for FOS and steak; lots of drinks and a little sportsbook action.
Flight was fine. No delays and arrived on time with bags delivered quickly and once retrieved, down to ground 0 for the WAX. It said 8:19 a.m. on my saved photo of the RTC website but it was updated on 11/16 to 8:31 a.m. which we only discovered after much panic when no bus showed by 8:22. Off with the homies to the Fremont Street stop without incident.
Walked through a somewhat "dead" Fremont Street which was nice but observing some with various drinks in hand at such an early hour made it much more real we had reached the promised land. Check-in was not possible at that hour so we left our bags at the concierge after being "cyberly checked in" to room 401. We were instructed to return at 1:00 p.m. or so to complete the deal and then headed off to the BHB for some VP action. stopped by the kiosk to check my points for level and comps taking a picture for later reference. I do this daily so to verify what they say (they) and what I record. It takes the ? out of whether I have the correct totals with what I observe on the machine counter as we play on the same card for maximum benefit.
It was Saturday and it was game time for college within minutes so we settled in to the sparsely occupied BHB and inserted both bills and player's cards. Wham Bam Thank you Ma'am (and you too RF) as this was my best day at the somewhat mysterious Strict Rules of Parlay.
We watch whatever games are on as we play and start with Bailey's / coffee moving on to Bloody Maries and then the ever fresh and delicious Carlsbad IPA (7.6 %) again as we watch and play. Once one o'clock hits we go back to the desk, get keys, bags, and move up to room 401 for the always fun unpacking / fighting for drawer space / hangars to carry us through the duration. It went much better this time as I had packed some of the wire type hangars we always seem to accrue in massive numbers and used them rather than the wooden ones provided by the hotel. Although treated with the smug look of approval (or disdain) it kept wrassling to a minimum. It turns out a male can make do with a suitcase for a drawer as well IF space is limited. Fortunately space was available and I occupied a drawer in the chest all my own.
We head down to Pizza Rock for some nuriousment as the alcohol has invaded my travelling partner's system to the degree that she feels some "soaking material" is necessary to continue the pursuit in the afternoon. It is happy hour from 3-6 so we take advantage.
For the month of November there was an offer from ? the 16-22nd for 5x on VP and 10x on reels if you brought the mailer. We did and they ponied up. This was quite beneficial as we will note later. Also had 35$ in slot play which was loaded onto my card at the same time we had redeemed the offer for 5x. Is this a great country or what?
We continued after our nutritious intake of protiens and carbs to pursue the ever elusive royalty club back at the BHB. The Carlsbad's were tasting even better than before and the cards were certainly becoming somewhat cooperaative as well. Finally we hit the wall and had to reload. We used points for the meal at 777 (22 $ and change; 13,200 or so) which is rarely done as we usually go by the b-connected desk and ask for a comp. Since we only arrived hours ago we splurged on our credits. At the conclusion of the first day (we opted out of consciousness at
9:30 p.m.) due to rising from the dead at 3:00 a.m. (1:00 vegas time) to catch our 7:00 a.m. flight. I know; nothing like maximizing your stay. But we are old.
That is the end of day one. Exciting no? Pictures will be posted at the conclusion of the trip as I must travel the 7 miles to civilization for adequate internet speed / capacity / accessibility / and whatever else to transfer from my phone. We are but simple folk out on the rural lands without such highly technological amenities so please be patient.
I have results from Strict Rules of Parlay--scratch cards which have to be the most fantastic invention ever made (possibly)--Redwood fare which is also quite possibly the most fantastic redo ever completed--and betting at the Cal sportsbook--and people we met (REAL people)..
Also, I have bad news for the RF and the beautiful Crystal at the BHB. stay tuned......and as usual please ignore any spellings / run-on sentences / or need for more paragraphs.....school's out....
