There have been a lot of goofy novelty songs come out over the years. A radio DJ named Dr. Demento had a big collection of them (and a syndicated radio show). Then there was Weird Al with his spoofs on popular songs.

The first two I remember hearing as a kid were:

    1) They're coming to take me away
    2) Mr. Custer

In more recent years, I heard one that was more of a story than a song. It was part of Dr. Demento's collection. It was called:

Moose Turd Pie (it is on youtube if you have never heard it)

    Any favorites?

The one that comes to mind immediately, which I know was on Dr. D., and I don't know the name of it. "I wanna kiss her but, she won't let me.' All kinds of double-meaning anal references in it. Hilarious.

    The McDonald's Menu Song

We got a little record of it as an insert to a magazine, or maybe the Sunday newspaper.
Probably the most-played record at our place, just ahead of The Oak Ridge Boys!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

More of a chant, but it's a children's story with actions/motions that was my favorite.back in Kindergarten.
I now entertain friends and family with different adult renditions/verses that my Kindergarten teacher would certainly not approve of! :nono: :D
Good way to work off the supper, though!

Is Jimmy Soul's "If You Want To Be Happy" a novelty song? If so, that.

When DH and I were first dating (35+ years ago) he introduced me to "The Tattoed Lady" and "With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm" by the Kingston Trio. They have since lost some of their luster, but DH has not.

I used to record the Dr. Demento shows (on cassette tape) and listen to the over and over again. You'd be hard pressed to mention a song from that show that I didn't know.

Explains a lot about who I am today

I have so many favorites! I used to listen to a lot of Dr. Demento, Wierd Al, and Monty Python as a kid. My uncle had some tapes from the radio we listened to often. What might be my favorite though I heard on the nationally syndicated station Z-Rock when I was in college. It was "Brenda" by Rev. Billy C Wirtz. If you like novelty songs and haven't heard it then look it up, you will love it!

    Other favorites:
The Good Old Days - Wierd Al
Thai Kwan Leap / Boot to the Head
    It's a Gas
    Fish Heads
    King Tut by Steve Martin
Stick Shifts and Safety Belts by Cake (should be considered a novelty song if it isn't)

Bird, bird, bird yes the bird is the word. I still sing that when playing with the cats.

Hell by the Squirrel Nut Zippers. I fell in love with that song because of the slot machine Hells Bells and still play it every time I see it just for the bonus music. Kinda mirrors my Vegas trips....."Now you make the scene all day but tommorow there'll be hell to pay". It used to take me a day to recover from my trips and it now takes almost a week to get back to my normal routine.

Sometimes songs just stick with you. Every time I hear someone say "next" or "you're next" my brain immediately hears the excerpt feom Bugs Bunny's the barber of Seville

So I pulled into a Shell station; they said I'd blown a seal.
I said, "Fix the damn thing and leave my private life out of it, okay, pal?"
