Just a reminder that the rules of the board do not allow political threads, usernames, avatars, etc. Vegas Message Board is intended as a place to discuss Las Vegas. It is not a sounding board to discuss politics, religion, economics or foreign relations. Any message or thread that veers away from the topic of Las Vegas can be locked, moved and/or deleted without notice at any time. Politically based user names and threads can be edited, modified or deleted at any time without notice. This section at first seems like an exception to that rule as it's not about Vegas. But this is intended to be a place where we can talk about things that aren't necessarily Vegas related like computers, funny stories about our kids, what's on TV, who's winning in the Olympics, shared recipies for whatever, etc. What it can't be is a place for political discussions/debates. I'm disappointed that we had to implement the rule. I like to think that all of us are mature enough to have a civil discussion or debate about political issues. We tried it for a while and it didn't work out. So we had to change the rules. Any political message or thread can and will be deleted by the moderators or myself as soon as we see it. There are lots of other boards out there for political discussions. We just can't have them here. Thanks for understanding.
Thanks Sonya. Seems that most boards I follow have this same or similar problems. If the board is about Vegas - it is not a general news site where you can talk about anything under the sun. Not sure why that is so hard for people to follow. I am on a few military sites for vets and some people want to take off on various topics. Might be important topics - but not here. Saw one the other day that included military and football players in the cartoon and they did not think that was "political". Only thing you can do is laugh. (and delete)
I don't know why, but that ubiquitous "somebody" is frequently going to push that envelope a little bit and slide in some quasi-political commentary into a discussion generally about gaming. I thought I saw a little of that just today. Some people just can't resist.
Bumping this up because it seems like it's time for a reminder about our No Politics rule. We've been having politics insert itself into lots of topics lately. VMB is intended as a place to discuss Las Vegas. It is not a sounding board to discuss politics or religion. Any message or thread that veers away from the topic of Las Vegas may be locked, moved and/or deleted without notice at any time. Any opinions on the government itself, its policies, practices, or laws is political discussion. It doesn't mean "no partisan politics", it means no comments on ANYTHING involving a political opinion. This also applies to political jokes and posts made in jest. All messages that contain political commentary will be deleted and an infraction will be issued. Also remember that our definition of "politics" is pretty broad. I don't just mean mentioning a party or politician, I'm talking about all kinds of discussions about economics, COVID, supply chains, taxes, inflation, homelessness, drug usage and laws, etc. A number of threads here lately seem to be better suited to your own personal websites, blogs or social media accounts than a Vegas Message Board. Please remember that VMB's purpose is primarily to be a place to share accurate and factual information that is helpful to visitors to Las Vegas. It's not the "rant about whatever is pissing you off today, hey you kids get off my lawn" board. That's for your own personal sites and social media feeds, or other message boards where those topics are welcome.
