Hey Now! Living on the Middle Peninsula in southeastern Virginia means a 3-4 hour trip to the nearest casino. Which I don't do, instead making the 7.5 hour trek to AC . This means I only get to gamble every 2 or 3 months. I really don't mind much, as it helps keep the bankroll intact. I dabble with horse racing on the interweb- Colonial Downs is about 45 minutes away, but they went out of business a few years ago. I spend my free time futzing around the yard and fly fishing (flysrb....get it?) locally on the Dragon Run out of my canoe. I also fly fish for brook trout in Madison County on the Rapidan River. Any other fly fishing gamblers out there?????
Not a fly fisher, but I spent a good chunk of my childhood in Gloucester! I now live somewhat locally. My husband and I occasionally (maybe 3 to 4 times a year) make a trek up to MD to gamble and we tend to make it to Vegas at least once a year. We've only done AC once before there were casinos in MD when we were living in the DC area.
Hey Now! Yepper, the Daffodil Parade is this weekend. Still a great place to live. We did go to Dover a few times, I enjoyed Harrington for the buggy races. Love the fact that the casinos in Delaware are non smoking.
I have many fond memories of the Daffodil Festival and always want to get back, but it's my busiest time of the year at work, so it never happens. I totally spaced about Dover, even though I've been there within the last year. I also appreciate the DE and MD casinos being nonsmoking.
flysrb, Yes, there are others. I'm one. Opposite side of the country, but I fly fish mostly for rainbow and cutthroat trout here in Washington. We have a lot of local casinos (Native American), but none are good for video poker, which is mostly what we play. We rarely go to them. Summers (starting July 5th or thereabouts) are wonderful here, so we stay close to home, camping, hiking and fishing. The rest of the year for gambling we go to Vegas or Reno. For sunshine and beaches we go to San DIego or Cabo.
Wow. Fishing and gambling. Who knew? Well, I live 50 minutes from AC in Southern NJ and am taking up fishing this season. In NJ you can fish without a license if you fish off the coast (you do have to register, but it's free). I will be taking up time on Brigantine Island and between Harrahs and the Golden Nugget where I'm told the blues run. Bathrooms nearby and I can get a free meal in Harrah's diamond club. I'm all set.
fly, I'm one of those crazy fellers who cuts a hole in the ice and freezes his butt off hoping to pull something to brag about out of it! (EDIT: Out of the hole, not my butt!) But I can do so on the lake that's right next to the local! Nice to have a casino as one's ice shack! Best of luck as you hit your secret spots--in AC and on the water! RICHARD
