Could anybody explain to me what the deal is?

I have a trip booked for Memorial Day weekend. Before booking, I was looking to book rooms at Hard Rock where I usually get comp’d rooms and promotional chips. No free play/promo chips, and only reduced rates for May. I even considered changing weekends to avoid having to pay. Nada! Still same offer of reduced rates.

July/August mailer comes in and they’re offering me 4 consecutive comp’d nights and $200 in promo chips. What changed?

A former Hard Rock player has told me that they're "tightening" up on comps. More likely because it's Memorial Day weekend and they can "sell" more rooms.

If you have a host, I'd call them.

I'm not that familiar with Hard Rock and how they work, but comps in general will vary depending on availability, projected attendance, etc. Memorial Day weekend is a pretty big "escape" weekend for people, and the official opening of pool season for a lot of places. I'm guessing that HR has some big event going on, especially around their pool. So no need to entice people to visit with free rooms and chips, when they can get paying customers instead. July and August are traditional dead months in Vegas, so they will throw offers out there left and right to get people in the doors. Plus, if you just booked now, that's only a few weeks away, which means there's less availability to offer players such as yourself.

Totally understand the holiday weekend being busy. I even considered booking another weekend for that reason but still no comps for the entire month. This trip was booked in March BTW.

Comp offers change up and down for lots of reasons. Primarily due to changes in ADT.

BUT - there are other reasons. Lots of people and strategies take place within an organization that change them around. Mood or direction from various levels of mgmt and departments will impact what is being offered. Time of the year, or recent success using various promos go up and down.

And, as MIGHT be the case here, sometimes an offer comes out, but only good on certain dates. Just like when you look at a monthly rate calendar for some casinos and you see room rates in one month range from $59 to $700 - for the very same room.

Sometimes the date when a DECISION is made on who gets a comp is based on the ADT on that date, but the mailer does not go out for weeks or a month later, when the ADT has now changed.

Part of it could just be the fact that may is a busy month. You start with Cinco De Mayo/Derby/Fight (canceled this year), then on the weekend of the 18th you have Billboard and a massive convention in town, the following weekend is memorial day which is obviously a popular time too. Add all of that up and you get pretty much a whole month of pretty full hotels and harder to obtain comps....

Don't forget EDC! I'm pretty certain that's a bigger driver of room rates than Billboard and the convention you mentioned.

May is a busy month. NBA Finals. EDC. And the fight before it was cancelled.
