We were talking 70's and 80's Vegas at the bar in our clubhouse yesterday ,a fellow told me he lived there from 72-78. Besides his regular job, he was a bellman at the Flamingo on Weekends. It was just like in the movie he said he got no salary and had to kick-back a certain amount. Despite that he said a normal night would pay him around $125 ,big bucks back then.

On my last trip in June my friends & I started talking to a lovely older waitress (mid 60s?)who had lived and worked in Vegas most of her life. She spoke very fondly (albeit in a hushed tone) about the good old days & how much better it was when the mob ran things. She said it was a much safer place then :wink2: She said there was a little Italian Restaurant across from where the Mandalay Bay is now where all the "boys" used to hang out and she and her girlfriends used to love to go and stare at them..."they were so gorgeous"..LOL
Same trip and an older BJ dealer also started talking about the good old mob days (again in a hushed tone).
My first trip wasn't until about 1992....the start of the corporate "theme casinos" which I've enjoyed but also wish I could go back in time to the "good old mob days".(sshhh...someone might be listening)

Vegas lost its charm when the big corporations completely took over in the 90's. I've been going to Vegas since the 60's and it is completely different, and worse, than it was pre Mirage. Customer service was much better and the vibe was incredible. I'm finding myself staying downtown more now. The customer service is much better without all the snobbery and pretensions of the strip joints.

There used to be an Italian restaurant beside the Dunes. The leaning Tower of Pizza which was in the movie casino. They had great pizza and were tons of celebrity pics on the wall.
