I think it's only a big deal for the talking heads on Fox and ESPN, like Colin Cowherd, who need something about the NFL to talk about right now because I guess listeners are not really interested in college basketball or Major League Baseball (Cowherd might spend two minutes on baseball each week).

I would be totally shocked if Russell Wilson was not in a Seahawks uniform next season. Pete Carroll is about 70 now and I doubt he wants to start over with another QB. Thinking he'll bring in a top flight offensive lineman through free agency or draft to mollify Russ.

Brady will take half that and bring in Beckham and some more defensive studs to win another championship. Dallas will lose some of its talent and probably be one and done in the playoffs.

Unless Dak demanded those #’s, Jerry has just solidified his role as King of drama. (Otherwise why not give much less much earlier?). Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!!

that dak contract. is gonna hurt that team.. the top 5 players on that team make almost 60% of the cap.. 87% if you include the next 2/3 players.. seems like lots of cuts coming soon.

I’m glad Trent’s gone. What a waste of money. We used to attract good players from free-agency, even used to be known for reclamation projects... now we appear to be just a place to cash a large check and rest/hang-out for a year or two.

All this talk about trading Derrick Carr? He's one of the only solid spots we have on the team. Re-sign Agalor, get Ruggs to play up to his draft-status and get a damn defense!

Glad to see Godwin with the Bucs for at least another year!

Robinson staying in Chicago may just be what's needed to lure a deal with Seattle for Russell Wilson.

Belichick is the only coach who can get anything out of this fat gargantua of a man. Bill will get him to be a pro-bowler protecting Newton and the Pats will challenge for the division. I hope the Pats O/U is like 8 next year. I will open the wallet for a big wager on that. They get 4-5 defensive players back who sat out last year. Bills are good, Dolphins improving, but my money might very well be on the Pats next year for the East.

Let me ignorantly ask.....I can get a 150 million for 5 years with 60 million guaranteed OR take 15 million guaranteed and 3 million a year for 40 years ....thus 135 years paid out but over a longer time and less cap space liability. The Bobby Bonilla factor. Good for both sides?
Only Because so many seem to expend so much when they have it. (You can move the numbers and years but surprised more don’t go with longer term, lower pay, to maximize quality of life).......thoughts?..

I think most of these guys believe their market value will be even higher when they go for a new contract. Aaron Rodgers has done it that way. Mahomes went for the long term deal—12 years. Brady is the guy who could have commanded a huge long term deal, but never did and opted to leave money on the table so the team would be better—he's currently renegotiating and will take much less than he is worth.

As for quality of life, it's pretty much guaranteed once you sign one of these deals. Remember that these guys are also making beaucoup million on endorsements. I think quality of life extends to their great-great grandchildren even if none of their offspring ever work a day.

To me the bold is key. NFL contracts are not guaranteed so the 3mx40 is never going to happen.
I think it is take what you can get now because you won't get what is promised.
