So glad that the anxiety was all for not! We are taking the test in a couple of weeks at Orelans, we will be in Uber, so I guess we will just stay in car? We will then head to Egg Works in Summerlin on our way to TPC Summerlin for the PGA Shriners Open.............I literally dream about those potatoes! Enjoy your last couple of days.......

I would guess you would stay in the car. I saw no non drive through option.

The anxiety is not gone, it is just faded from a 7 or so to a 3. It will go lower after golf is done.

But having the sniffles on test day sucked since concern about being able to fly home was the biggest thing that almost prevented me from coming.

Back before water restrictions, they saturated the course. All you saw was vivid green. Pictures of the Desert course look more like late August than late Sept. Service was also the best back then too. Used to enjoy going out to play one course, stay the night at Primm Valley and then play the other course. Whiskey petes used have a good steakhouse too, but long gone now i'm sure.

Thats what i figured. You can tell from the bones of the place that it was built to be fancier. In some ways, a shame. In ithers , they built a water hog in the desert and dont have their own water rights like Paiute.

Nice report and love all the pics. Sucks about the tire issues but just go to the nearest Discount Tire and they will add air for free with no wait.

So it looks like you took your test at around 48 hrs, since it was on Wed and you leave on Fri. Is that correct?

I have us booked at just under 72 hrs at Cosmo Reviv. 4pm appt- latest I could get that day. I'm thinking about changing it to 11am the next day. First option gives us more time for the results to come back, as well as an extra day to stop worrying about it, but second option might be better just in case they change our flight to the day after(which seems not very likely, but who knows).

What to do, what to do?
Anyway enjoying your TR, really like your writing style, and humor.

Yes, it was easier to book for the hiking day because I did not know what appointment time to book with golf the day before. If i had not had that constraint i would have done the test on Tuesday. But turnaround on the non rush test was like 9 hours, so two days out not a problem other than one more day of piece of mind. I will be updating the canadian travellers thread with the experience after my flight/ customs experience.

Up today early as usual but had less difficulty getting to sleep so still got about 6 hours.

I do my arrivecan app stuff, and then head over to Grand Lux and Venetian for breakfast.

The smoked salmon platter minus the tomato:

    536C208F-352E-4BE7-AFE2-CA205E0D02E6.jpeg

This was my favorite of the three smoked salmons this trip, but still found the portion a bit skimpy.

After breakfast I head to Planet Hollywood to get some Kona coffee from the ABC store, only to find it is not yet open.

On the way I find the man with the most job security in Las Vegas. The elusive escalator repair man. Turns out I botched the picture so you will have to take my word for it. He got that one going by the time I came back by Bally’s.

Then it is time for my round as Cascata. You pull up to the gates and need to be buzzed in:

    22349937-565C-4349-AEAB-552AE681475E.jpeg

From there I go to the bag drop where there is not just the normal cart loader but also a Hostess whose sole job seems to be to smile and welcome you.

I opt to self park and the guy who loaded my bag drives the cart down to pick me up at my car. He takes the cart into a staging area, a sort of drive through garage within the clubhouse where you meet your caddy. It has a staircase up to the pro shop.

I check in but my round was prepaid at Rio Secco. I head to the locker room which not only has restrooms and shower facilities, but also shave stuff, toothbrushes, mouthwash, floss sticks (pick up one for after dinner), etc. They even got your assortment of Gold Bond products should there be certain heat and skin issues.

    7BD601F4-1AE7-4FD1-B73C-78BA44978C26.jpeg

The clubhouse itself has a stream running THROUGH it.

From there I meet my caddy (Jerry?). The threesome I am paired with so i head off to the range to discover the powerful wind blowing down the mountain. So after my inital warmup i practice some knockdown shots to cut through wind (which end up being useless as the into the wind holes are uphill with mostly elevated greens).

I meet the rest of my group and we go to the first tee. Jerry has advised us that the tee blocks play a good 300 yards above their yardage so we settle on the 6200 yard whites (except for the former college golfer in out ranks who plays blues).

On paper, the first hole is 330 yards, a short par 4. In practice it is straight uphill and into the wind. I hit driver and am smack in the middle of the fairway. Easy game. I botch the approach and am off the green to the right. Jerry gives some advice on the chip and it helps me get it to tap in range. Par the first hole, lets go home.

For there things get rough as i follow with a double and triple. The driver is not behaving (would be fine many places but not this one). A few holes later i hit a textbook hybrid off the tee on a short uphill par 4. But Jerry and i misgauge the wind so i hit a gorgeous 8 iron that sails over the green. From there i chip it more or less exactly where Jerry suggests but get a bad bounce and roll a good 40 feet from the cup. Three putt for double.

I do manage to hit both par 3s on the front in regulation though, so in spite of my struggles manage a 48 on the front.

The back has more downhill and downwind holes and is easier to manage, and i am hitting great approaches, but with the wind am often at least a half club off. So after a couple early pars i bogey through most of the back, and have a couple doubles. End up 93, which is better than I would have expected.

The knee did not bug me at all and it was a fun day. The Cascata greens, according to Jerry, were about a 10 on the stimpmeter. If so I dont want to see the normal 10 or 12. There were some putts in was impossible to get close, although i suppose with faster greens some of them may have rolled back closer on their own.

Got back to Caesars shortly before 5 and organized my golf bag for the flight and mucked out the car.

Then it was back to the room to change, and then off to Palazzo to dine at CUT.

I have eaten there once before and the layout has changed. It used to have a narrower front with a token bar and then dining in behind. Apparently at some point they annexed the retail space next to them and now the bar is longer and there are several bar tables. It is at one of these tables that they seat me. And this is all fine and dandy except for these chairs

    C2764F9F-0C10-4DCA-99EB-6C8E32EF7BE6.jpeg

Having the l shaped legs means that want to flex back, and pull you to lean back a little, which is not ideal for dining. On top of which the curved back is not wildly comfortable.

I order the Maple Glazed Pork Belly as an app

    A1AFAC4E-774E-477C-A48F-05D26465B692.jpeg

Oh, and i also got the artisanal bread, which they now charge for.
    02DFED31-1DA3-4033-9FBE-9D26B0FE4CC8.jpeg

I have had the pork belly before but i don’t think it came with the cherry mostarda then. A nice addition to a great dish.

Also a brief note that the CUT menu has slimmed down since my last visit I think. Aside from salads they have 3 appetizer options.

For dinner I have the American Wagyu ‘Eye of Ribeye’, a 9 oz steak.

    CFFD93F2-97A2-43AD-9412-AC2054A6161F.jpeg

For sides i get the potato puree and the sauteed spinach.
    E9FB4A92-233E-4179-9F68-CF788FFA61F1.jpeg
The steak was exceptional and perfectly cooked as you would expect. The sides were perfectly executed and a decent complement to the steak but somewhat uninspiring. Nothing particularly unique or memorable.

I have a couple glasses of the John Anthony “farm” Cabernet. Very nice.

And for dessert I go with their signature, a “banana cream pie”.

    698CF2CD-8FC8-4E1C-B38F-D48AD2745A98.jpeg

You may be thinking that looks funny for a banana cream pie, and it is. It comes out in a chocolate ball, and then they pour hot caramel on it to reveal this
    081DCB7D-8B5C-43A9-8D6C-2E7941A3B38E.jpeg

So in there there is caramel banana ice cream, banana custard, vanilla wafers and of course some real gold leaf, a staple of any diet.

It was pretty good but as much show as substance. The chocolate and caramel were not exactly competing flavours with the banana, but did not elevate it either. It was a show put on to put on a show.

The service was very good with only the mild note that the waiter was a bit more upselly than one would like. Food came out fast and prepared well. The manager came to ask me how things were and i told her the food was great but the bar chairs had to go.

After dinner it is unfinished business time.

Pictures from Mirage Garage, then get Kona coffee at PH then win enough to book at least a token win.

On my way to the garage i discover that it is not only outdoor escalators that are afflicted

    99640C78-5015-4B19-9F7D-EFB84BC05938.jpeg

    First, the garage:

    7E187DB5-2A58-4BC3-9E00-917BD405995B.jpeg A55A39B8-9BF4-4AFA-98C1-25A945BAECAE.jpeg 87B5F6AA-58E5-41CE-8479-2A37656CBA05.jpeg
    A02307C2-B306-4BE9-B251-AD0A41A1ADA0.jpeg
The view was not bad, but barely worth a special trip. I did take a better panoramic shot but wont upload.

From there I head to the ABC at PH stopping to look at the shitshow where the poker room used to be
    F61278FE-731B-41A5-A628-82D3153DE743.jpeg

I pick up the Kona, and then start the walk for one final duel with EI. Budget is 300 for a little VP and some blackjack. I get there and

    4B7504DF-3B1D-418E-971E-30C129F6F8DF.jpeg

So much for the only good quarters BP paytable. Apparently escalator covid is crossing over to gaming machines.

I sit briefly for some full pay dollar looking for a quick hit and to go through my accumulated points. Up early but no big hit so i quickly cash out even unwilling to risk the whole budget on this.

So it is off to a 10 dollar bj table. I buy in for 100 and get crushed at first losing doubles and quickly down around 20. Then i swing back up around even and back down.

But eventually the downs have it and we are into the second hundred. And the hits just keep on coming. This one has far fewer and smaller upswings. The third hundred goes out to pay for a double on my last 10 (which wins), but soon i am into it. I get down to the last 55 without any real upswing and decide i am unlikely to get hot enough at BJ to fill this hole ive dug, so I decide to juat run the last 55 theough dollar VP, which will likely wipe me out but could more easily get me somewhere good with one hit.

And for such a small buy in i am not doing bad. Small ball all the way. The two pair arent improving until about the 7th one then
    A8F0E8EE-FB3A-4FC7-87FE-B778C724D205.jpeg

From there i run it up a little higher with more small ball. See 5 or so dealt trips including aces and 4s, but the savior card never arrives.

Eventually it all burns back down and I end the last night down 300. Oof.

I head back to the room at Caesars. I have done a lot of walking on this trip. Power walking through strip traffic, hiking, strolling. But that last walk to the room once you are officially a trip loser is beat described as a trudge.

To add insult to injury, at Cromwell heading to Caesars, the last escalator I need on the trip:
    DAD6A79E-144C-4D70-95C2-5F8A2617AFBB.jpeg

And just in case you were thinking screw them, take the elevator …

    4CE67A71-612E-419C-B747-9A7EA196BB7F.jpeg

I pack up so i will be ready to go in the morning, set a wake up call, and turn in.

Such a great report! Thanks for taking us along.

Did Cascata live up to your expectations? Looks like the first green is pretty sandy in your pic. Hope they weren't all that way for $400.

I took that pic because it was surprising to see on the first and did not see another blemish on another green, and even that spot looked off but played true.

Cascata overall lived up to my expectations. It is over the top in its luxury in ways and the course itself is beautiful. I take it the greens are usually faster and that would make some greens absurdly hard to play.

My biggest disappointment with it was not with the course but with the forecaddie experience. I have had a caddie exactly once before, at Cabot Links. And walking with a caddie and having them focus on your game is a far different experience that a caddie rushing between a foursome, trying to advise 4 players and fix all their divots and rake their bunkers.

You get less advice and it ends up less tailored to your game. I got a few good pointers and the green reads were in the ballpark, but for a caddie experience having an individual one gives way more time to get advice and plan shots. On many holes he wasnt doing much more than a general line off the tee and then distance you should play to the pin accounting for wind and slope. Sometimes a ‘go for the right of this green’. With a forecaddie there simply is not time for that.

And i am not saying Cascata should have caddies. The course must be driven and driving around up to 8 people for a foursome would be untenable. Just that bit if the experience was not the same as I recalled.

But overall, Cascata delivered. I am glad i played it, but I may be sticking to Paiute and cheaper for future trips now that ive played almost all the public courses I want to (absent maybe Wolf Creek)

I agree. First time I played it was just a twosome and our caddie was able to provide lots of good insight. The next time was a foursome and the advice was far less valuable in that situation, and sometimes even sorta frustrating.

Do they still do the personalized keepsake nameplate on your locker when you arrive? I doubt it seeing you didn't mention it.

My local buddy was in the business in LV and as the result was comped at both Shadow and Cascata. He said both were great. Shadow was prettier, but he actually preferred the Cascata experience.
