We are coming in on the 14th of July instead of the 15th and I need to add a day. I called Excalibur where I have 2 rooms reserved and they want $200 per room to add Friday.....ridiculous, especially since we get in at 11 pm. I'm looking at CHEAP alternatives and saw Ellis Island, where I've always wanted to visit. Has anyone stayed at their place? What were your thoughts?

Double check all the hotels in the area. Log in and look at their rate calendar.

I was in a similar boat a few years ago and booked at the Hampton Inn for one night. Reasonable rate, no resort fee, not a casita del roach.

Hmm....I also see Red Rock resort available, 1 room only but under $200. We'd have to Lyft over thought for $30.

Ellis Island is really just a Super 8. If you know that quality and don't expect more than a place to sleep, then you'll be fine.

I'd give Expedia, maybe Hotwire or Priceline a look to see what is out there if CET and mLife can't do anything for you. It looks like there are a few downtown properties that are under $100 too.

Ellis Island recently remodeled several of their rooms now that it's no longer a Super 8. The remodeled rooms look good. If you book there, it's probably worth the few extra bucks to get a remodeled room.

Tuscany is showing for $135 on orbitz and is right behind EI.

Sliver Sevens which is 0.7mi from EI is only $89 on booking.com

Check the rates for the Westin on Flamingo. I stayed there for a week on a work trip and it was really nice. You can get decent rates if you can use any of the special rates (AARP, AA, Gov, etc.).

Priceline has several options that I would choose over Ellis Island (unless you can get a remodeled room at a decent price).
I visit EI on every trip for good food, drinks and gambling but have never entertained the thought of staying there when it was a Super 8.

Under $100: Four Queens, Texas Station and Boulder Station
Just over $100: Downtown Grand, Plaza, Hooters and Sam's Town

If you have always wanted to visit EI and you dont get in till late, then I say go for it,wherever you stay it will only be for a few hours. You can enjoy the steak and eggs breakfast in the cafe without having to walk to far, of course the BBQ will be closed I believe when you arrive so you wont be able to try that

I would pick Silver 7's. They actually have an awesome pool area.

$89 at 4 Queens for Friday 7/14 looks like the best deal. No resort fee either.

Ellis Island would be a nice one nighter as you're only a 7-8 minute walk to Ballys and center strip. It's safe.

Gold Coast is a good place I've stayed many times, but a remodeled room at EI would be great experience for one night.

I believe all the rooms have been remodeled. Total price for 7/14 is $128.

One unsolicited piece of advice for you: Consider making a refundable reservation now at a price you can live with. Make sure you know the cancellation policy. Then, keep monitoring to see if rates come down closer to the date, especially later on something like Priceline where you can get the discounted rooms and generally figure out what casino it is. Or, keep monitoring MLife to see if one of their casinos goes lower.
