    Trips to Las Vegas:
    12
Hi VMB! My name's Jesse. I'll be 30 in March and I'm from Toronto.

I've been to Las Vegas 6 times in the past 8 years. The first time, my dad took me on my 21st birthday and it was everything I wanted it to be...well everything I thought it could be while on a vacation with family (nothing too debaucherous). Still, we saw Elton John and Love, had some great meals, played a ton of BlackJack, and the last night there I was up until 7am in the Bellagio Poker Room (went through airport security still drunk. not sure if I'm proud of that or not...). It was amazing.

Since then I've been back 5 times, all for work (there are 3-4 sales conventions for our industry a year). It's a great opportunity to get back to Mecca, make some money for the company, bond with the other employees I never see, but it's also kind of lacking. I never get enough time to gamble and just enjoy myself (although I always enjoy myself in LV!). I love playing poker and can never get a regular game in Toronto. Online sucks, so every time I'm in Vegas I make a point of having at least one night dedicated to playing. Still it's never enough...

So a week tomorrow I will be going back to Paradise for 5 glorious nights of poker, drinking, and fat meals. For the past few weeks I've been all over VMB, reddit, TripAdvisor, Vegas.com, etc. looking for tips, reviews, suggestions, and just getting so goddang excited! (It has been the longest 2-3 weeks of my life)

I'm going Monday 12th (getting in sometime between 12-3pm; I gotta change my flight) - Saturday 17th (leaving around 12:30pm). I'm staying at the Cosmopolitan. I was thinking Bellagio because I wanted some decadence and poker, but I chose the Cosmo because I read the clientele skewed a little younger. I plan on spending a bunch of time on the strip and at least one day downtown. I'm more of a bar person, but I'm thinking about checking out some clubs. I've got a sweet deal on rent here in TO, so I've saved up a bunch of money and I'm not worried about spending what I have too. Afterall, I'm more of the "spend now, bang my head against the wall when I'm home and curse my drunken decisions" type of person :bang:

Here are some things I'm planning on doing. Let me know what you think! (If I don't end up doing everything on this list, I'm fine with that, but these have piqued my interest)

    Gambling
    - Bellagio Poker Room (My first poker room @ 21 and to me the pinnacle)
    - Golden Nugget Poker Room (We stayed here on my last work trip in August. The staff are amazing, the players are all pretty chill, and it's downtown [see below for downtown other desitnations])
    - Cosmo table games (blackjack, roulette, craps, might as well see if I can get some comps :) )
    - Aria Poker Room/Table games(I'm thinking of using some myVegas comps here so might gamble a bit too/get free drinks)
    - Possibly wander around to other casinos/play wherever I'm going to dinner/drinking

    Restaurants
    - So many options at Cosmo (and definitely going to take advantage of the "Social Hour")
    - Rose. Rabbit. Lie.
    - China Poblano
    - Blue Ribbon Sushi
    - STK
    - Holstein's
    - The Henry
    - Prime at Bellagio/Joe's Stone Crabs at Caeser's (again a throwback to my 21 trip. Dad went all out and I'm thinking about treating myself...well this whole trip is really a :D... really I'm just looking for a crazy good steak place )
    - Public House at Venetian (Not to be confused with the one at Mandalay Bay(?). I hear they have/had a beer sommolier so I definitely want to check it out)
    - Tony Roma's (Noticed it across from Golden Nugget in Aug. We used to go when we were kids all the time and I just remember it was amazing. Haven't been to one in years)

    Bars

    - Again, so many options at Cosmo
    - Chandelier (I'll probably be here a lot, if it's as good as I've read)
    - Bond (Sounds like fun. I hate the lineups of clubs, but wouldn't mind a club-ish atmosphere)
    - The Griffin (Sounds really cool)
    - Duelling Pianos at NYNY (Stayed here a couple times for work trips. Don't really like the hotel or casino that much, but DP is always rocking. Might try Coyote Ugly too)
    - Beer Park/Beer Haus/Beer Garden (You tell me! Where is the best place, possibly a patio, to just drink a ton of beer?)
    - Pizza Rock (Went for a group dinner in Aug. was pretty fun)
    - Franks Tiki (In the back of my mind as an option, but can't hear enough good things about it)
    - Oak and Ivy (sounds classy as hell...is it douchy as hell?...eh, I'll check it out)

    Partying/Clubs
    - Marquee (Maybe the Monday I get there. Right in the Cosmo, so I'm going to see if hotel guests get special treatment, just line pass would be great. I hear it's pretty good, but it sucks I'm going when the pool is closed)
    - Jewel @ Aria (I have heard mixed reviews, and really I'm on the fence, but there's a myVegas comp so I'm thinking of getting it and we'll see if I redeem it or not. Your thoughts?)
    - XS (It's not a must for me, but I've heard great things. If I do Marquee and want another club night but somewhere else, I'll look into this one.)
    - Carnaval Court (I'd probably go here first, as it seems like a mix between a club/party, but with more of a laid back attitude than most clubs)

(I'M NOT TRYING TO RAG ON CLUBS. I love them once in a while, and I've been to a whole lot that were awesome times. It's just hit and miss most of the other times, and even though I just got a sweeet pair of new shoes, any place that would bar me from going in because of what I have on my feet, really pisses me off.)

    None of the above
I have three things I'm thinking of doing that don't fit into the above categories. I'm not sure if I'll do them at all, but if I do they would be:
    - skydiving
    - Ferrari/Lambo driving at the speedway
    - gun range
(Yes, yes, I understand I have to be sober for all three of these events. Won't be a problem or the deciding factor! Maybe I'll just slap myself in the face to get psyched up...)

So that's my "plan". I'd love to hear your thoughts. I think I'm going to have a great time, but this is my first truly solo trip anywhere. If anyone wants to meet for a drink/club/couple hands of blackjack or roll some bones, let me know. If I'm not bluffing pocket 3s I'll probably be down to meet up :)

Thanks so much for reading this, for any advice, and just for letting me join in on the fun here!

    -Jesse

Welcome to VMB! You will enjoy Cosmo, its a great hotel. I will be there as well your last two nights. As for input, you probably already know this is an ambitious list. I suggest prioritizing which experiences are most important to you, make sure you do those, and then do the rest if you have time. Personally, I love planning my trips, but the plan often goes out the window after I get there.

I will add a small two cents about your dining options. I would skip Tony Romas. I understand it has some sentimental value for you, but there's nothing interesting or unique about it. You have so many better options. And I would strongly encourage you to try Blue Ribbon at Cosmo. Its on your list and the restaurant will likely be gone the next time you get back to vegas (or at least it won't be a sushi restaurant anymore). The food there is excellent and this will likely be your last chance to try it.

Have fun and good luck at the poker tables

    Thanks for the reply UKFanatic!

I agree my list is totally ambitious and way too full. I totally think I'm going to end up like one of your trips and totally chuck the plan out the window when I get there. I'm more of a go with the flow type, and unfortunately when in Vegas the flow usually turns into a slow ooze once I start getting free drinks at the tables haha.

Noted on Tony Roma's. If I make it to GN to play poker, it'll most likely be a gametime decision.

Anyway, thanks for the reply/advice. First two beers on me Thurs/Fri is you're down.

    Thanks!

I am solo that Thursday night and in true nerd fashion, I am probably going to go see the Star Wars movie. But I will likely swing by Chandelier, Bond, or Gem bar (at aria) late that evening

Star Wars is a good call. I'm gonna try and see it with my siblings when I get home (same as force awaken last year).

In true nerd fashion, if I'm not at the tables getting free drinks, I'll probably be pregaming in my room...watching South Park.

Feel free to MSG me if you're hanging at Cosmo.

Welcome to the board fellow Canadian. Sounds like you have a great trip planned. You'll love Cosmo...the terrace just gives it the edge over other properties imo.

Thanks Breanna! (one of my favourite names btw ;))

I got a terrace studio fountain view. Debating whether the $20 trick is needed...?

+1 on the Tony Roma's warning... since you'll be at GN anyway, why not hit Vic & Anthony's? Really good food there... and very comfortable old-school bar there while you're waiting for your table....a bit more $$ than Roma's, but far, far better food.
    Have fun & good luck!
