My dad hasn't been to Vegas for about 20 years. He wants to go soon and asked me for recommendations. I've always done MGM properties and gotten full comp on the backend, but my dad won't have the same bankroll I typically bring. He plans to bring $2000 and plays mostly .25 VP. He'd like to get as much off the backend as possible and I'm not sure which direction to point him. I think he'd enjoy downtown more than the strip as he won't be doing a bunch of sightseeing. Do you guys have a recommendation that I could send his way?

Well, it probably won't be a CET casino. Not unless he is lucky and puts in a lot of time on the VP machines. The way I'm currently playing it, you need to make 500TC ($5000 coin in on VP) a day to "make" a weekday room at one of the 7 lower tier casinos, and 1000TC a day to make it for Caesars or Cromwell. Opinions may vary on this . . .

Maybe downtown, and the D or Downtown Grand, or even the Four Queens.

That's about the same size bankroll that I take. I usually get my rooms comped at The D. 3 upfront and 1 on the backend. I play about 90 percent .25 vp.

We've done well with comps at MSS downtown.

So, what does he like to do?

What sort of rooms does he like?

Where/what would he like to eat?

What sort of shows if any will he be going to?

How is he with cost of meals? Drinks? Variety?

Basic room, nothing fancy just something that will be quiet enough.

He likes to people watch and mingle. That's why I thought maybe downtown because it's a little more concentrated. He can't walk too long of distances due to knee/back trouble in the past. For meals he enjoys the buffets usually. Maybe a steak dinner one night. He enjoys the free drinks while playing but may grab a couple at a bar. Variety in restaurants is nice but doesn't need to be a lot. He enjoys comedy shows.

20 years ago Vegas was like a different planet. You sure he won't be doing much sight-seeing? :)
