We planned on flying into Vegas on Wednesday evening so we could catch the Purple Reign show at our hotel, the Monte Carlo. There was pretty much no one at the airport and we were through all security checks in about 10 minutes. We sat in the airport bar, had a couple of drinks and met some really interesting people waiting to go home (we were the only ones leaving on vacation, and our airport is a mostly commuter airport).
We arrive in Vegas on time and there is no one in the Taxi line which is the first time I've ever seen that. We walked directly into a cab and got a quick ride to the Monte Carlo.

We tried to score an upgrade at the Monte Carlo, but they were going to charge us for the upgrade. We were going to pay the extra, but only if they got us to the concierge level, which was sold out, so we ended up in a regular room.

After unpacking, it was down for some gambling (lost tons, which was a theme for the weekend) then headed over to the Brew Pub to watch Purple Reign. They were great, as usual. After the show, more gambling, more money lost, and lots of alchohol consumed.

On Thursday, the wife had a salon treatment in the morning, then we went to the pool later in the day. After that, headed over to Mandalay Bay for a light dinner and some drinks at Red Square. We sampled a flight, then decided to stay and have a couple more martinis and were quite lit when we left the restaurant. We had tickets to see a band playing at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. The show was incredible and it was the reason we headed to Vegas for this particular week.

On Friday, we had tickets for Love, but first decided to go out to the Palms to check it out. We've never been there before, but they had "Ditch Friday" going on at the pool, so we were able to go out there and check the pool area out. Nice pool area. the place definately is more about seeing and being seen rather than gaming, as the gaming area was pretty small and didn't have a good vibe. But, this was during the day, so it may have had a better vibe at night. After the Palms, we went back to the Monte Carlo for a quick costume change, but had the WORST cab driver on the trip from the Palms to the Monte Carlo. this guy constantly complained about his boss and his job and really put a damper on the whole afternoon. He was just horrible and wouldn't shut up.

I haven't been to the Mirage in years and we both really enjoyed walking in to Mirage to get our Love tickets. It felt very comfortable and could quite easily become our new home base. the whole gaming area had a great feel. We went to Stack for dinner and enjoyed the food immensly. The wife had the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich, which said enjoyed. The grilled cheese was a bit greasy, but the tomato soup was rich and flavorful. I had the baked chicken, which was moist and crispy. They cooked the chicken with the skin on, which seems to be a lost art these days. We plan to go back on our next Vegas trip.

Then came Love. We both loved the show. it was more dance than most Cirque shows, but the music was wonderful and the imagery spectacular. There are much better reviews already written on the site so I won't go into detail, but we loved it.

After Love, we headed to TI, gained some money back, but really didn't like the feel of the place. Seemed kind of stale. So, we headed off to New York New York to Nine Fine Irishman to see Sin e Ri Ra. They are the house band at Nine Fine and are quite good. Stayed there for quite a long time, drinking and enjoying the music.

Saturday was time to go home, so we had a quick breakfast at the cafe at Monte Carlo then off the the airport for an early afternoon flight.

Overall, it was a great trip and we can't wait to go back in September.

Keno....enjoyed your TR! Glad to see you like what they're doing to the Mirage because it is a great property. We personally thought it was more crowded than before (as in more machines and closer together) and it seemed that MGM was on a mission to remove all of the original Tropical design. Better luck on the gambling next trip! ~ Dino

I'm always the first to get out of the airport as I only bring a carry on bag on the plane. Always the first in line for taxis.

Ken, glad you and the wife had a good time. Here's to better luck at the tables and slots next time

Glad you had fun, your luck sounds like mine, except I usually score the room I wanted, that is the extent of my wins in Vegas, lol. Glad to hear more great things about LOVE, I am dying to see it!
